MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications. Today we work at constructing the rail line from the nether hub to my man cave.

Last time I checked light level didn't affect mushroom growth rate. Only light level higher than 12 prevented them from growing. I did a mushroom light level test awhile ago and I'm fairly certain they haven't been changed much since then other than only allowing 5 in a 9x9x3 area.

Oh Etho! I just watched your last SMP video yesterday. To get the next video today is like a gift! I don't comment on many videos (and usually I just criticize when I do) but I have to say, you are by far the best person to watch when it comes to minecraft. No one even comes close. Keep up the great work!

Usually people say quality, not quantity. But Etho does both, he spends so much time on one episode, he cuts the boring bits, just so we can enjoy it :) WE APPRECIATE IT =D
@Schmeeky45512 жыл бұрын
Now this is a brilliant idea! It'll produce a great effect, and as you're designing the RS pulse for the mushies to travel ahead of you will be (should be!) very simple to implement.
@tjb060712 жыл бұрын
If light does affect mushroom growth, you could wire a detector rail to light lamps up only when you're riding the rail. You could also have it hooked up to a timer to stay on for 5 minutes to assure all the mycelium is intact.
@Cubesis111112 жыл бұрын
Im not sure about SMP, but in SSP items on your rails wont stop you- you pick them up as you ride along. That may help simplify your wiring for the mushroom farm ;) Also you may want to put something other than Mycelium under the rails, all the particles are probably contributing to the lag. Good video as always Etho, keep up the good work :D

Make something cool for Zisteau to decorate and hide your track obstructing his view. I suggest giant mushrooms hanging from the ceiling. Just so it looks like your mushroom tunnel spread outwards and sprouted a little froest of huge upside-down mushrooms :-D Grow the cap from underneath, grow or place (silk touch) a stalk above, then do the floor of your tracks. Ghasts shouldn't be a problem without a visible target to shoot.
@ToastedBaby12 жыл бұрын
Etho, you could always use a T-Flip-Flop for the activation button, and then hook the output of the AND gate to it so it automatically resets after it gets activated. That way you don't need to use levers.
@erti65512 жыл бұрын
When you see a lot of progress in 1 video it makes the video seem longer and thus by the end it feels like it was way more entertaining.

You could make pistons push blocks down from the celling when mushrooms get harvested to prevent items from landing on the track. The celling would be have to be low for this, but you wouldn't have any timing problems.

Keep up the good work man... All Hail Etho!

I think you would need a third block type for this project, this looks really gray to me. Maybe some nether bricks? You probably have a ton of since since you took out that fortress.
@Naso01012 жыл бұрын
quick thought: move the first layer of upside down stairs you placed one block back. i think it might look nice '^^ and i'll toss another project idea for you while i'm at it: an x-ray machine for the nether hub, so that people can know more or less where to build their stuff xD

Giant Mushroom biomes, usually only found as islands in oceans. Mycelium is like grass, so it spreads on dirt. Grab a few pieces and you can farm it by surrounding it with dirt.

Etho, having a second type of block in the tunnels would be really really nice. (like maybe netherbrick or wool?). It will lighten the tones and make it feel more open. :)
@abeling2512 жыл бұрын
I would like to see an lighting system that was powered by detector rails. Using lamps the lights would come on in front of you as you rode the track and then go out behind you. This way the mushrooms would be a low light level when it was not in use, and I think it would look really cool.
@meganzoor212 жыл бұрын
This project was badass as hell, can't wait to see the final rail system. Thankyou for putting so much time in for us

At the end of the ride you should put a dispenser that shoots out a bowl so people who rode it can eat mushroom soup.

According to my tests, anything less than light level 10 seems to be adequate to grow mushrooms. The differences between the different light levels seems nominal.
@DSKNg12 жыл бұрын
You may or may not have thought about this, but the mushrooms will harvest if you go back in the direction of the nether hub, assuming you use a detector rail. I suggest either having a T-Flip Flop with one input at the hub and one at your portal, or you could use an RS NOR latch, having the detector rail reset it after pressing the button at the hub.

Put detector rails on the track, that way you can get the pistons to pop out as you're riding, also will reduce redstone costs significantly I would imagine. Just make sure to trigger the ones in front of the cart so that you'll be able to collect the things. Also should reduce lag, A lot of little processes instead of one big one.

Having a good idea with the light system: I do not exactly know what the light level means to the mushrooms, but you could just hook up the light to the detector rail at the beginning of the track. The mushrooms wont grow at that time anyways.

There were tons of updates. In 1.7 they introduced pistons and few small changes and it was a secondary update 1.6 to 1.7. After 1.8 there were I think 6 betas that you could play. And now there's snapshots, introducing many new things almost every week. 1.3 does not only have one or 2 new features but tons. Adventure mode, singleplayer server, new items such as tripwire and sandstone stairs and different wooden stairs, new structures like jungle ruin and desert pyramid

Etho you could make a nether brick stripe as a theme in your railway. That way you could have a nice contract and you have lots of netherbrick anyways :D however it would be a pain to take out all of the stone and replace it, but just a suggestion.
@roxon_245212 жыл бұрын
i imagine etho spending hours in a dark room to plan everything out on paper
@SupaGangstaMagic12 жыл бұрын
Hey Etho, just a suggestion: you could use detector rails wired to the pistons further down the line so if the cart does stop on an item, you won't have the pistons continuing to fire down the track causing more stops on the way. Wouldn't be surprised if you've thought of this and idk but this may cause considerable lag. Just a thought, keep building!
@someirishskater12 жыл бұрын
Hey etho, For this project may I recommend using an RS-NOR latch toggled by a detector rail at either side of each section. That way you can set it up so the mushrooms will harvest as you go past, and the pistons will retract afterwards.

In nether, light levels go down visually by 10 % instead of the overworlds 20 %. This means that the visual look of the level 0 in the nether is equal to level 8 on the overworld.

Etho, if the mushroom growth rate is modified by the lighting, you could do a T-Flip-Flop or RS NOR latch connected to a detector rail in the beginning and the end of the track, lighting up when you go in and going dark when you leave it :D

You can light the tunnel however you like, since the seed mushroom is encased and fully dark. From the Wiki: "This growth rate is determined by the light level of the original - or "seed" - mushroom when growing from a lower light level into a higher light level."
@xandocommando12 жыл бұрын
For the pistons that push the mushrooms, instead of stone brick, use glowstone or a different transparent block so that the mycelium doesn't die.

He means a farm for pigmen since they spawn frequently in the Nether. You wouldn't need an actual spawner, just a few pads. That spawn pigmen. Which therefore makes it a spawner.

Etho, the lighting mechanics in the Nether are the same as the overworld: 16 light levels. The ambient light makes it appear as though it is always 8, but has no effect on the actual light level.
