Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 58: Wither Pad

MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications.
Looks like I should have waited another day, the MindCrack server seems to be back online at the time of writing this. I checked and most of what I did is still there so the server rollback wasn't too bad. Yay! =)

Hearing Etho talk about hurricane sandy just brought back some old memories. I remember my elementary school being flooded during Sandy so we had to stay home for a few days while the national guard came and cleared the streets of wreckage and debris. My house was a block from the waterline during the floods, so I was fine while my neighbors were kayaking in the street just a block south. I spent that whole break from school watching Etho videos on my iPad, and here I am in 2021 on my winter break from my freshman year of college, rewatching the same SMP series. Thank you for the good memories Etho, you’ve been there longer than most have for me.

I live in New Jersey where Hurricane Sandy did a lot of damage. Florida is used to hurricanes and your buildings and everything are built with hurricanes in mind. Here on the north-east coast, we never get hurricanes so we had to try to prepare as much as possible.

About the size of the spawning pad: due to the way the algorithm works and how pack spawning works, you could extend everything 5 more blocks in each horizontal direction, which would add quite a lot of spawning space and spawns. Hope it helps

Etho if you use beds in the nether to blow the islands up. use armour with the enchantment projectile projection to prevent damage from the beds blowing up. using beds to blow up islands in the nether is a great substitute for tnt, since it cost's less to craft

The mindcrack server should have a big 'working bee' - everyone gets together to clean up bits of the nether to improve the wither skeleton spawning efficiency. Shenanigans are optional :P

I like watching Ethos videos. Not for the gameplay. Just for the sound of his voice. It's a very nice voice. I think i might kindnap Etho. Then lock him in my basement and listen to him crying for help. Then, when he gives up hope. I would kidnap one of his loved ones and lock them in a cage near to him. Etho, you should make some kind of redstone contraption that you lure the wither skeletons into that drops an anvil on their heads, that way theres a %100 percent guarantee that you get a skull.

I'd blame it more on the average attention span of people these days. While you or I might enjoy an hour and a half of Etho doing his awesomeness, you'll always have people that'll complain 15 minutes is too long. Also, if you're tired, Etho has the most relaxing voice in the world. The number of times I've been lulled into passing out in my chair? Lost count.

It did hit Canada aswell after going over the US, but it was weaker by then. Though the reason to why it was so short was that the server was down because of flooding from Sandy, and the server is in the US somewhere

Use the upside-down slabs, and make it 1/2 thick. Ghast-proof, won't suffocate the wither skellingtons, and uses 1/2 the resources for the same job.

Redundancy sounds nice but it would not be easy to maintain. For one you would have to keep the servers synced up all the time for (insert reason for server fail) to not lose your work from server to server. Plus the host where the server is most likely has a ton of redundant systems in place. They just can't handle trillions of gallons of water in the electrical room. etc etc....

It actually does, though the graphics of the game are 16x16, the computer is rendering the at your screens resolution, and 360p ect affect the rate at which the pixles update, for example, i'm pretty sure 360p only reloads half of the pixels in the video.

A guy called YippyKaiAye360 found out how to seperate the wither skeletons properly. Due to their height they have a different suffocation height than the other mobs. So you can kill all the others by pushing a block at their headlevel. The wither skeleton survives.

As a matter of fact, it is a very noticeable difference, being as we're watching a video. The content of the video is irrelevant, as long as you're not just looking at a screen of one color.

I'm not wrong, I have a 32 inch HD tv and people uploading in HD makes a minimal difference to the viewing quality. Etho's videos are fine
