Hi Etho. On SMP mobs will glitch through walls in the F1 and F2 directions. Your lower blaze spawner front is towards one of those two directions. You can fix it by placing extra blocks around to keep the blaze in place, turn the opening around to a different side (not f1 or f2) or just wait for 1.3. Probably the latter will be the best choice.

Love the new sword Etho. The Fire Aspect and Looting don't literally conflict, but you have to get in the killing blow for the looting to work it seems. Sounds like what I would expect.

Etho, as you saw with the last cow, the fire aspect does actually work. The reason the meat doesn't get cooked is because the sharpness four kills the cow before the game registers it as on fire. Basically, even though the cow looks like it is on fire, it dies before it actually is, meaning the meat doesn't get cooked. (I had the same problem)

The way the connectors for the chains look makes me think of spider webs, moth silk, and caterpillar cocoons, I like it. I think if you clear out some of the blocks beneath the farm it will make it appear heavier because the mass of blocks will appear that they want to touch the ground.

Holy shit Etho that base looks awesome! It looks like something from a sadomasicists dream, w/ all the chains and stuff. The chains look awesome though hanging the whole building from the ceiling, but you would have the remove the nether ruins around it though for a more powerful effect.

Etho, if you want a bit more light in the blaze farm, you could always move the lava lighting to under the walkway. You have the 3 wide (i think it's double) half slabs, you could take out the middle row of those, put lava under, and then put glass over it .

They're much more fun to use, and since Etho is planning to have his main base in the Nether (from what I've heard) then having this damn good XP farm will be really convenient. And he gets a shit tonne of Blaze rods to use as fuel. :D

Silk Touch worked on ice a while back. They got rid of it because people were using it to get water in the nether, and now they're bringing it back in 1.3 along with a nerf to getting water in the nether.

About the not-minable with gold, you're right, diamonds are not in the list, but the silk touch could be quite useful with ice, grass, glass and glowstone, you know. And looting + fire aspect would help too, not more being a really rare combination for farming :) But besides the gold tools, I think the most awesome thing you could do with a time-reliable gold farm, is making the new golden apple. Being able to make a ton of those without mining a continent would be really amazing :D

As for the "fire aspect/looting" conflict, if the "final blow" (the one that kills them) to the animal or mob comes from being struck by the sword, the "looting" enchantment takes effect. If final blow is from the flames, you don't get the looting bonus.

So basicly, sharpness messes up fire aspect because you one hit stuff and fire aspect messes up looting IF mobs die as a result of burning instead of being hit... probably :3 . This theory is supported by the last cow in the video dropping cooked meat and not much of it. Also, keep up the good work Etho! And hope you get well soon ;) .

If you think the chains at the intersection look weird that close, you could join them (using stone brick w/chains) at the middle of the way up, to make just one chain to reach the ceiling for that part. I think it'd look nicer :)

The problem with the sword is that you kill the cows immediately. When you kill them immediately they don't catch on fire, but when they live and burn the die by the fire, so the looting won't work. On an unrelated note: I saw that a ghast destroyed one of your glowstone in the water, I don't know wether or not you've saw / replaced it. Love the vid :)

Etho, A nice trick I learned. If you get a flame bow (1 or 2) and just tap it to shoot one arrow that does not kill the cow and then hit them with the looting sword you get alot of cooked beef! Try it out.

The fire aspect and the looting conflict because if it's the fire that kills it, you don't get extra drops. The sharpness causes the cows to die in one hit so that the looting takes effect and gets you extra drops.

Etho, you should take advantage of the water you have in the nether to replicate your mob spawning tower from the overworld, catch zombie pigmen like crazy and have infinite gold :D You could use it to have looting/silk touch equipment easy, or to (when 1.3 comes out) have a decent supply of gold for the Block-crafted golden apples of awesomeness :) Thumbs up so he can see!

I have to add that they gathered ice during the beta 1.9 pre-release. You can't in "full version" 1.2.5. It was before Etho arrival on the server, but Beef & Pause had some left. Beef gave some ice to Etho as a welcome gift. in "full-version" 1.3, you can gather ice with silk touch again, but placing ice in the nether won't create water.

As of 1.3, Silk Touch is child's play to get (once it is released). I'm fairly sure iron is more enchantable than diamond, and with a dual blaze farm and also Doc's enderman farm design there's no shortage of XP. Plus gold durability is not only low, but it can't mine things such as diamond.

I believe the sword works that if the mob dies from the fire, the looting doesn't work since it didn't have the final blow. If the looting does have the final blow, then the fire won't have the final blow so it won't cook the meat.

Hey Etho, the reason the chains might look weird in your mind, is that most chains go at an angle. If they were straight up and down like that, the thing would sway in real life, so you don't see it very often.

The game code only cares about what dealed the last hit at the mob. If it was fire, you get cooked beef. If it was the sword, looting works. Since you kill cows in 1 hit, the last hit is always from the sword (even though the cows are on fire when they are dying) so looting works.

Actually that's the good thing about the merge. The base code for the game will be the same in SSP and SMP, allowing Mojang guys to do bugfix faster for the two versions :)

the sharpness isn't the incompatible factor, it's the looting and fire. the problem is that if the fire kills the cow the cow will not get looted cause the sword didn't kill it physically.

The meat only gets cooked if the fire kills the cow - if you try setting a cow on fire and then killing them with a sword (or suffocation or fall damage or with a cactus) you still get raw meat. Likewise looting only comes into effect when the sword directly (as in not by fire or fall damage) delivers the killing blow. That's why there's a (sort of) conflict - the mob can either die by fire or by sword, not both at once.

I think the reason people think Looting and fire don't work together is if you don't one-shot the mob, the fire can end up killing it. If the sword doesn't do the killing blow, the looting doesn't register.

They got Ice with Silk Touch back when you could. And in the version they are using, breaking Ice in the Nether will leave water. So they have a water-ey Nether now. ^^

It'd be good if you could enchant buckets so that you can place water in the nether with them, but only a limited number of times or something. Buckets could have other enchants too like increased chance of getting milk from cows or something

Yes, they drop a few blocks which puts them out of range of the spawner, and that means more can spawn.

Someone else has probably said this already, but: Etho! You do NOT need to uninstall anything to get 64-bit Java (as long as you're already on 64-bit Windows). It's perfectly safe and normal to have both 32-bit and 64-bit Java installed at the same time, and it doesn't matter whether IE or Firefox are 32 or 64-bit, they'll just automatically use the matching version of Java.

The problem with looting and fire aspect is that if you kill them in 1 hit the fire doesn't have the time to apply any damage (and thus not cook the meat). If you don't kill them in 1 hit and the fire kills them, looting isn't applied because that only works from the damage of your sword (and not from fire). At least that's my theory. So it should mean that if you light them on fire first and then finish them off with a looting sword you'll probably get lots of cooked meat with looting applied.

I think that for the larger sections (Like the enchanting part), you should make the chains go up diagonally so they don't look so close together

It could be cool, but sadly lava doesn't have the same pushing properties than water has. Lava is the same as water in that you can swim through it, and mobs try to swim it up if they are down to the bottom of a lake of it (pigmen and blaze do at least, magma cubes seem not to care). But it's different than water in the "pushing" thing... lava doesn't push mobs at all. Btw, lava travels a lot in the nether, like 7 blocks or so, if you wanna do cool things with lava I hope that could be useful :)

those are 2 stone half slabs stacked to make a whole block, it's the old style that stacked clean but they changed it so those are no longer obtainable, now they have a horizontal line

The issue with the sword is it kills the cows in one blow before the fire takes effect. If the cow dies from fire damage, it will drop cooked beef, but there is no bonus loot. In order to get extra loot with cooked beef, the cow must be on fire first then killed with the sword. I had a fire aspect 2 looting 3 sword and even if it took a few hits, i would get a 3-5 cooked beef and some leather per cow.

Etho, if you only have one wire, you only need one button. It looks to me like you've got an RS-nor latch, and one button sets it and the other resets it. You could just do a T-flip-flop and have a single God-button for all your blaze-massacring needs. Of course, most compact T-flip-flops use pistons, and those are lag-heavy. Maybe it's better as a latch. I just feel like a single button is much neater.

in all fairness he doesn't need to use water. he can do the same as he did with the enderderp farm in is LP with the pistons and pressure plates or just have a block strip with signs on either sides so the pigmen will walk of to their deaths and then use a mine cart to pick up the look and go AFK in it, both resource heavy

Now what I never got is why would you ever want to turn the water off? 1) You dont waste time waiting for the water to come down, and slowly push those that auto pathed around to funnel in. 2) You're looking to either have them at lowest hp possible or for their blaze rods, so the water helps out there too. Idk, seems redundant and inefficient to me. But then again this is like 5 years ago lol.

The command also works with ex. "javac -version" but will only show information related to it. Also you can always go into Registry Editor and edit the Java by going to -Computer -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -Software and edit the Registry files under -JavaSoft & -Wow6432Node -JavaSoft

The chains look awesome, but IMO it should have lava lanterns partway up the chains to help show how far they go. Will you use glowstone/lamps in the arches for extra light? (Side note: Why just glass on the top? I would think that a mix of glass and Stone brick, or even iron, would make it less likely for ghasts to break, and still look pretty good.)

The reason the fire aspect isn't working is because you are killing them and then they get set on fire. Really sucks you got sharpness. Flame bows (even if they kill them one shot) are different, since the mobs get lit on fire before it hits, they burn and then die, so they drop cooked meat. That's what happens with endermen: when you hit one with an arrow from a flame bow, they get hit with the flame and get lit on fire, and then teleport away, not taking any damage from the projectile.

Etho why don't you put instant damage in the second dispenser rather than 2 sets of poison make it very easy. Also note to Etho: You don't have to uninstall 32 bit versions of anything, you can have 64 bit and 32 bit java installed at the same and programs will use what they're compatible with. With the 1.3 update stairs will have another hitbox(a stair hitbox not a full block one) so you have to re-make the whole thing. Otherwise they can shoot through the holes.
