Today we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights for Boat Trailers. These are the 60" tall version. Part number is CE27760. Now let's test them out. We'll just supply power to our trailer through our running light circuit and see if they work. Perfect. We've got the nice amber lights facing forward then we'll have the red lights on the rear. Our heavy-duty post guides do a real good job of helping us get our boats on and off of our trailer.
Also what they're going to do is give us a higher visual area so when we're looking in our mirrors as we're trying to back up and things like that, we're going to be able to see exactly where that trailer's at. We all know a lot of times when the boat is not loaded on the trailer, it can be hard to see. These are going to offer a good visual cue that can be positioned pretty close to the very back corner of the trailer. These are going to work with frame widths up to 3" and frame heights up to 4 1/4". It doesn't matter if it's an I-beam style, C-channel or a box channel as we've got here. It's going to work on there as long as it fits on those dimensions. We can mount it below the frame or above the frame just so you can really customize it.
Another great thing, we all know that boats aren't always created equal. Sometimes we've got more overhang on a boat coming off the side of the trailer than others, so these allow for up to 19" of adjustment in and out so it can really help you to customize and really fine-tune the fit for your boat. You can get it right up on the edge, really give us a good aid as we're trying to get on. Now, as we do that, of course, our side of the boat, it's going to slide down the non-marring PVC sides here. It's going to give us a good, smooth area to kind of slide along to get right up on our trailer even in some stronger current. The braces themselves, or the arms themselves, their galvanized steel so we're not going to have to worry about corrosion and things like that for years to come. The package is going to include two of our main arms, two of our posts, and mounting hardware to take care of both sides. Another thing is going to be our dual colored LED lights.
We've got the amber on the front side, we've got out red here on the backside, and in those situations where it's nighttime out there, we've been doing a little catfishing at night, something like that, these are going to help us and guide us so we can see the trailer, to get our boat up on the trailer, see the trailer when we're backing it up, and things of that nature. They'll also act as a good mark as we're heading down the road. Now, installation's a really fairly simple process. What we're going to do is take two of our U-bolts. We want 1 that's formed and 1 that's flat, 4 nylon locking nuts, 4 washers, and 1 of our brackets to start. We'll start with one of our formed brackets. We're going to place that right over top of the frame where we're going to be mounting it.
This is going to fit through the inside hole in the front and the hole that's second to the outside here on the back just like that. Put that down, place those on, and then we'll just take one of the washers and one of the lock nuts and just get that started. That will kind of hold it in place while we bring in our formed U-bolt. That's going to rest, that notch will rest right over our other U-bolt, and it will just go in the opposite hole location as what the front one did, or what the straight one did. Then we'll put on the same thing. Washer and the nylon lock nut. We'll just leave those loosely installed for now. Now we'll take the short side of one of our arms. We're going to slide it right into the bracket. Then we'll just tighten down our bolts a little bit here to hold it in place. We'll adjust those so we have about an inch of clearance between our boat and the guide on, and while we're not going to torque these all the way down, we do want to make sure our guide is not going to move too much on us. We'll put a little bit of pressure on there to make sure everything is held in place. That should keep it in place for now while we take care of our wiring. We're going to take one of our lights, and we'll guide our wire down through the PVC pipe. Then we can just loosely fit our light on top. We want to hold the wire to the outside. Then we'll guide our post right down on. On the backside there's going to be, you can see a notch in the PVC pipe which is going to slide right down on the

Very nicely done. It seems there would be a temptation to run the wires inside the hole of the lance (on the outside) and then run the wires straight through the rest of the tube, but that could cause chafing issues.

I’d run the wires through the guide poles. Correctly looming them and securing them will prevent any damage to the coating of the wires.

Are the ubolts and nuts/washers stainless steel? I would be using this in salt water and galvanized fasteners always rust, no matter what.

Not sure I’ll hear back but I followed this great video to a ‘T’ but my lights do not work??!! I tested lights individually on a battery before hooking up and they both work. My Shorlamder trailer is 2007 with lED lights do not sure if direction of current matters? Galvanized aluminum trailer. Is there a way to cheat the ground... splicing to white or back to brown?

Great video quick question what did you set your torque wrench to? The directions do not say. I set mine to 25 ft lbs just want to verify that’s correct. Also I ran my wires through the metal post and popped them out where the rivets are for the slip on post on the inside. I then electrical tapped the wires where they came out of the metal to avoid it possibly grounding out by cutting into the rubber wire sleeve.

When tightening the u-bolts, you just want to make sure they are tight enough so that the post does not wiggle but not so tight that you crush the square tubing. www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer-Parts/CE-Smith/CE27760.html

I couldn’t get the pvc posts to “slip” over the uprights - they would bind up 1/3 of the way down and then were really hard to take off. I emailed the company - no response. Finally, I just took a hand-held grinder and ground down the corners of the uprights all the way down to bottom. Then the posts “slipped” onto the uprights.

The post is not designed to be used as a bumper to trailer a boat. They are designed to be guide posts. www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer-Parts/CE-Smith/CE27760.html

Adding lights to the top of the supports is nearly useless IMO. You should disconnect lights when backing into the water to save the lights. While running, normal trailer lights are sufficient. I think the lights are the lure that catches the fisherman.

By just using a non-marine ground ring terminal, it's going to corrode in a few years and you'll lose lights. Not to mention the wire isn't marine grade wire so having the bare copper exposed on the ground, it might make it a year in salt before it's so green it's lost connection.
@etrailer

These are good things to keep in mind. We have not heard of people having issues with this. It depends on where your boat trailer is stored and if it is exposed to the elements.

@@etrailer Womp Womp. You missed the queue, brothers. @rooster is right, there are tens of thousands of miles of coast line compared to freshwater applications. Your tutorial is useless for an entire swath of boaters. Atlantic ocean will rot a copper exposed connection in a single season.

Yes, they will do just fine when heading down the road. You just want to be sure they do not exceed past the widest point of your trailer. www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer-Parts/CE-Smith/CE27760.html

@@etrailer ummm..wrong !!. nothing wrong with the post sticking out past the trailer ?..it's the width of the lane you must follow !. in other words, most states have a 8'-6'' measurement, if you go over this ?, then you need a wide load permit.

Why not run the wires down inside the metal tube??? Better protected AND the PVC can't rub on the wires!!!

There's no reason why you can't do that. You'll just need to use some fish tape to run the wires all the way through the supports. www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer-Parts/CE-Smith/CE27760.html
