Oh my gosh. I had no idea installing trailer light hookups was so complicated! No wonder I see so many trailers with no lights. Thanks for the video but there's no way I'm attempting that.

Here's a way to save some time... Since it's already a ghetto setup that runs the connector out of the trunk to your trailer you might as well just plug into the 12v connector with a cigarette lighter type plug instead of running a wire all the way to the front of the vehicle.

Running the wiring out of the rear door is designed to protect the wiring year round if you are not going to be pulling a trailer on a regular basis. You will need to run the power wire to the positive post on the battery because the 12v outlet is fused and you run the risk of prematurely blowing it. Sorry to say, the vehicle taillight harness connectors aren't available as a separate item.

spent 3 hours trying to get the + lead through that grommet. there is absolutely no way that's a solution. I ended up just taking off the tail light and routing it that way. took 10 seconds. hope this helps someone.

Someone cut my hitch off will this effect a new install in any way

If your hitch receiver was cut off you would need to unbolt the remaining parts and just install a new unit. If you are talking about the wire harness and the vehicle end connection point you could either wire a new connector to the remaining harness or remove the old harness and install a new one. There won't be any negative effect as long as the old harness is completely removed. That looks tacky as heck! Cut the wires, pull them through the same grommet they use and then use heat shrink butt conecters. And if you take your Rene off road please for the love of GOD run the power wire on the inside of the Jeep. There is a grommet on the forewall that you can run the wire through and up into the engine bay to the battery. I have the wires going through it that goes to the switch pod for a light bar, ditch lights, real fog lights(amber), and under glow.

Many people will run the wiring out the rear door if they are only going to be using it a few times a year. It is more protected if it is on the inside of the vehicle rather than on the outside.
