Where do you rank Greb as a middleweight ?
@NickyMetropolis13138 ай бұрын
I love it I love hearing about the old classic fighters
@elnick10008 ай бұрын
Many have considered that Harry Greb as the best middleweight of all time. I feel that Greb's era was superior to the era that Ketchell found in. Sadly Ketchels life was cut short, though Greb also died at a young age early 30's. Greb in hsi prime definitely would win a deciosn, at least taht is what I feel.

That fought at the sane time

@@WilliamFlickinger-y8f Fought at the same time, no, Ketchel I believe died in 1910 at 24 years.

That truly would have been a dream matchup. I would have to pick Ketchel here. Both were very tough hombres.

"The Smoke City Wildcat"Harry Greb by unanimous decision.

Greb handed true heavyweight Gene Tunney his only loss . Ketchel was a tough guy and a great puncher tough one to call .

Never thought of this match up, mouth watering fight. The film of Ketchel vs Johnson is a lot better to see his style than against Papke, which was all in-fighting but what a fight it’d be. Give Him to the Angels is the only thing that makes me think he’d beat Ketchel… maybe! Great vid again, I remember the excitement when I sent for the VHS of Greb training when it was first found, great times

I agree with the outcome from the link . Greb was the better boxer but Ketchel was the better puncher . Wish Langford and Ketchel would have fought in a distance fight instead of a 6 rounder they were supposed to only Ketchel was killed . The ultimate fight would have been Langford vs Greb my # 1 and # 2 P4P .

Yes, Langford vs. Greb!

How about Mickey Walker vs Ketchel?

Thanks for the idea. Here's a link to a vid on Walker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqnEo3-Lmdh5fqM

Stanley Ketchel is far too crude and unrefined on defense to compete wuth Greb. This fighter's are seperated by a large margin. Ketchel has a punchers chance to maybe take one fight in a 5 fight series. Had ketchel developed and not died then the the gap would be much closer as he had god given natural ability but your jumping to the front of the line as Greb is a premier Middleweight & Ketchel siimply was not (yet)> Greb would likely knock him out in the first fight.

Ketchell was not a premier middleweight?
@historicalboxingsocietyАй бұрын
@@Bruins-vq5ey Both Ketchel & luther mccarty are some of my favorite boxers I view them the same as unfinished products. Ketchel was no more a premier middleweight than Luther was a premier heavyweight. They both had some of the greatest potential of all time. But what we know with the history we were dealt was Ketchel was a shade better than Billy Papke. The middleweight's were exploding just as Stan died. Ketchel would need some significant improvement just to beat a higher end fighter such a Jack Dillion. Could he? Sure he had the potential too...But at death he wasn't fully developed, he was crude on defense he would have some major improvement's needed to saw through the guy's in the decade of the 1910's. Ketchel had a fast living lifestyle & was hooked on drugs (opium) at his death I'm not sure he would have ever realized his true potential. Part of Ketchel even being at that Ranch where he was killed was rehab to get off drugs...as his addiction was in full swing at that moment.

Another great fight: Harry Greb vs Ace Hudkins.
@ET-RAMBLINGS8 ай бұрын
Maybe, but the "Nebraska Wildcat" Hudkins didn't fight the caliber of opposition that Greb did.

@@ET-RAMBLINGS That's a fact. He was a pretty tough dude. It would have been interesting to see.

IMO Greb would likely win bec Ketchel was NOT A BOXER AT ALL. Thanks for all your work.
@SirLuciferVampiro8 ай бұрын
No question, Greb will win on points....He's a non-stop pressure fighter which is a nightmare to face for any boxers. But the thing that made Greb so difficult to beat is actually his speed. Do research on his fight against Mickey Walker and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Walker, another HOF, just could not handle his speed. Also there are legendary stories of him sparring with Dempsey and getting the better of thing mainly due to his speed.......Yeah, I made this comment before the video finished so I didn't realized you've already basically stated my point about Greb's speed.....
@brandonlamb90678 ай бұрын
Little to no clear footage on either of them. Stanley was the harder puncher whereas Greb sounds like he was extremely tough and energetic. Could go either way. If I had to choose I would go with Ketchel

Greb was flat out too large for Ketchel. With skills equal the larger man wins.

This hypothetical fight supposed both around the same weight, probably 160 lbs. That said, the consensus appears to favor Greb.
