I just found this video today. I opened my shop in 2006 but it empty until 2017 as the wire wrapped jewelry I listed didn’t sell. In 2017 I started making printable bible tabs and in 2018 added Custom Brushes for the Procreate app. I only sold around 1,400 in 2018. I launched my handmade watercolor shimmer paints on 11/1/19 and made $1,200 in Nov and Dec. As of today I have had over 4K in revenue. I will definitely be using a few things from your video to help me get up higher in searches.

Joanna, I do believe Etsy is a really powerful tool that makers can use to grow their businesses - alongside having your own website, of course. As to Etsy, it just makes sense to me to sell where people are buying, and leveraging all the marketing and work Etsy do to bring buyers to their platform. If you can work out how to rank well in search INSIDE Etsy, they do all the hard work of bringing the customers to you. Most of my own Etsy sales come from Etsy search, so I know it can work.

This is a great workshop, Jess! You really put a lot of work into these videos, and your presentation skills and humor add so much! I have what is likely a dumb question (there must always be one, I guess!). When you send a "message" to a customer at the time they purchase the product, do you send through Etsy's message system, or through email, or both?

Thank you! And I send it via Etsy messages. Always best to try and use their system to chat to customers, in case there is an issue, that way Etsy can easily see your exchanges with the customer.

Thank you for this information. Starting out without money is hard to do. In 2016 I opened up my shop just to sell 1 item. It sold fast. Then I closed until 2019. I have a niche of Mermaid ocean type items. My store is named MelodysTreasuresShop. I'm adding mermaid bath bombs now too. But I have a variety of things I make. I'm about to make some Mermaid cards to sell soon. So I was only open for 1 month in 2019 as I had no one even look at my shop. And I feel I'm better prices for what I make than others on there. I just reopened and made my shop look very pretty. I just need to add the bath bombs today and cards Monday once made. I'm sure my photos could be better. I only have my phone to take pics. And I guess I don't have enough keywords? But I do have excellent customer service.

No, unfortunately. You can only add a piece to 1 shop section, which is quite limiting when it would fit in multiple.

On your shop listings you are using dots between phrases on your titles ( but suggesting commas ) and one word keywords , no long tail keywords at all on your tags ( but suggesting long tail keywords ). As you claim that " This is what Etsy told me and I pass it here for you " ??? :D So which one is the right version ??

I actually use a ton of long tail keywords in my own shop - both in titles and tags. Remember also - your shop sections are keywords! And yes, Etsy's advice is to use commas - but that's just to keep it readable for buyers - you can use other methods of separating keyword phrases and that works fine, too.

@@karenfalbo5436 sure I understand. 2 great ways to do keyword research is to take a look at the words and phrases that your successful competitors are using, especially best sellers. A second way is to check your etsy stats and click on "etsy search" to see what keywords people are already typing and finding your products. Hope that helps :)

Etsy is very very crowded. Loved this platform back in day. Impossible to get noticed. Etsy seo is impossible to crack. You have market like a mad person to even get noticed. Everyone on etsy has their own opinion how to be on top. I will say I've tried listing more items. Long tail keywords listing details etc. Nothing works for me. Once I stopped running ads I'm no where to be found. Etsy is favoring the already big companies!

Hi Cassie. You're very right about it being very different now because there's so many people selling on Etsy and it's hard to get notice. What I would say the best thing to do is find a small niche that won't compete against too many sellers. Also use Pinterest like a crazy person lol because your pins can easily go viral and lead back to your products. Hope this helps

My biggest takeaway is that once subscribed to your website and then again subscribed to MORE options on your website and then again subscribed to something else...THERE IS NO CHEAT SHEET to be found..anywhere. :( Kind of sad about that and kind of takes away your legitimacy which makes me feel not that great about you anymore.... like just another "scammer" preying on the people who truly want to become self employed business owners creating what they love. :( Sad indeed.
