Hi, Marilyn! I was just thinking when you pulled out the “Traitore” card…so many Hermit cards show the Hermit going away from society to retreat. In the era of walled cities in Europe, especially during the medieval era, being outside the city walls was a terrifying thing. It was reserved for people who were banished from the safety of the village or city. In Romeo and Juliet, for example, Romeo is banished. He has a beautiful soliloquy where he repeats “banished” (ba-ni-shed) over and over in disbelief. Only thieves, traitors, criminals and those deemed too freakish to live within the city walls were outside. It’s why they traveled in groups on horseback with weapons and were suspicious of those they encountered. Eteilla would have been very familiar with this in France. So the Hermit, whether leaving of his own accord or because he’s forced, perhaps because his views, beliefs or behaviors are so different than those of the status quo, is going to be perceived as a traitor if he’s outside the city walls. Does that make sense?

Oh yes! That makes a lot of sense! Now I can't wait to see what other translations are written on the other 2 publications of this deck. I wonder if either chose more 'modern' words to express this card? I'm also glad I understood the French word accurately. I wasn't even certain if it translated to Traitor. Beautiful deck! I do speak French and I'm not entirely sure that the cards are the equivalents of the traditional tarot ones, even though the numbers are the same. They are named very differently, like proposal, fire, enlightenment, etc. Some are kind of the same like force for The Strenght card, but English has the word force too and it has a slightly different meaning. Now I am curious about this deck, Marylin!

Hit send by accident! This is a beautiful deck. The cardstock sems so smooth, like suede. And the color of the backs! I can see the pinkish blue/gray. Just beautiful. Also, your video ended when you said you were going to flip the camera. What were you going to do? You may not remember... It's been a few days. I watched these a little out of order

Oh I know. I caught my error when I reviewed my video but since it was at the end and I completed what I set out to do, I decided to release it any way instead of starting from scratch with another video.
