This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. Although when doing shenanigans in Iberia, this can be even funnier since you don't actually see colonies your PUs form, so if you play Spain and PU Portugal, they can have a whole colonial empire you never get to see, _even when you annex them_, you literally can have colonial subjects you cannot see that still send gold fleets to you. I can only imagine the scenario "My King, a treasure fleet has arrived from some place called... Peru?" "Never heard of it" "Neither have I, but they say they have a bunch of gold for the King of Portugal on board." "So... have you explained the situation to them?" "Yeah they were totally chill just leaving the gold for you and went back to this place we've never heard of, said they'd be back with more gold next year." "Well... that sounds just fine doesn't it?"

The first dinasty of Portugal was the house of Burgundy (although not the same as the one in the game, but still a cadet branch from the capetians) and were descendents from king Robert II of France, and the ruler at the start of the game is still his descendents. So to make a different type of video as Portugal, you could take advantage of the 100 years wars, and claim France for yourself by conquering all of it.

You can the PU on a Iberian nation easily by releasing an Iberian nation as a vassal, enforcing dynasty and then releasing, claim throne, declare war

As someone who has done a decent number of ireland runs, he has incredible rng here. Generally Scotland or England have allied most of the opms and or taken 1-2 provinces within the first 5 years of gamestart and you have to find a way of fighting them or just stop expanding and die to them.

He must've just declared on the ones that aren't allied to England or Scotland and then taken them without co-belligerenting. I can pretty much always do this cus I agree with you, some of them, like 2-3 of the Irish duchies will ally England or Scotland but AE is not really an issue in Ireland

Just a little trick while playing with vassals and taking their cores: When you demand to take the province which is the war goal for a vassal which has the core, you'll get the minimum AE penalty. And after that you can take your vassals' cores back through "return cores" tab as much as your war score allows and as long as your war goal is reconquest. If I somehow mistold, I am not a native speaker. Anyways, I am trying to say that in your second war with Castile, you could make Castile cede only Plasencia to León and return all other cores. Trust me I tried it many times. It is much less AE and it's the quickest way to get your vassals' cores back.

​@@thaelornno, Redhawk has never done a reconquest peacedeal right. When you give occupation to a vassal, it uses their province warscore cost instead of your own, which in this case means Redhawks wasted his diplo ideas in all his reconquest wars.

He says that giving them directly make them costs less warscore which may be true. But doing his way won't allow you to return other cores without unjustified demand. So you are limited to returning core of your selected vassal's war goal.

As oirat, form Siam, become a monarchy and have Siam ideas + horde, espionage & aristocratic idea groups for space horse go brrr moment. :) (Tried it myself and you can melt any army with it pretty much, super fun)

@21:30 you should take Spain's provinces in the war tab with (Brittany, England, Portugal, etc.) That way you can take more land from Spain. Then revolve your war targets and reset.

Hawk, don't know if you know and just didn't use it - but if you want to return cores to multiple vassals without additional dip cost, you can use the return core button in the dip tab. It has slightly more province cost, but it's dip free. Don't know if you get reduced AE outside the vassal you declared for though, but that won't matter much in Spain.

there is a strong argument for playing Oirat all-in and see how much you can accomplish in a a-to-z-kind of timeframe, as with Oirat you could possibly form the Mongol Empire in just a century. So I would say: as Oirat, play until 1550-1600 with the aim of forming Yuan->Mongol Empire, and see how much you can accomplish in those years

This might be the first time I've ever seen a nation being possible to form by two countries at the same time. Well, technically you couldn't form Spain when your vassals held Barcelona and Valencia, but in theory, if Castille had Aragon as a junior partner and you had all the provinces cored yourself, you could both be able to form Spain at the same time. I thought that formation conditions should exclude such possibilites, but here we go, an exception that proves the rule.

I played an Offaly game. Got Spanish Fly and luck of the Irish. After Luck of the Irish I culture swapped English, formed England, took the Angevin path and PU'd France. But France was too big to take the decision so tried annexing manually. Turns out this opens up a third English path! Becoming France! Anglois is a French culture group. So my Offaly run is now a France run. It seems the game doesn't know what to do in some respects because by the time I formed France I was HRE emperor and the HRE branching missions never triggered. They stay question marks.
