M&T has a different mechanic for Chinese nations in China - when you occupy a nation's capital, you instantly integrate them (and get the message from PU integrations). I guess M&T is trying to say that the ruling dynasty has been imprisoned/killed when you take the capital. There are no peace treaties between the Chinese minors because of this.

i'm new to the game, what is the difference between normal infantry/cavalry and mercenaries?
@delta30397 жыл бұрын
Mercenaries cost a lot of upkeep per month and don't take anything from your manpower. Normal troops take 1000 from your manpower per regiment and cost much less. Normal regiments replenish themselves with manpower when troops are lost, but Mercenaries just drive up the cost even more to replace dead soldiers. The advantage of Mercenaries is that they can be hired very quickly and normal troops take longer, and normal troops cost much less.
@christiankrarup65017 жыл бұрын
Cavalry is also generally better at combat, but get a large penalty if your army consists of over 50% of it. It is also more expensive to buy and maintain cavalry

@gunnarherzog55387 жыл бұрын
Also there are Condottieri, as seen in this video provided by Ming. You can rent your army to other nations to earn some extra cash, but the casualties come out of your manpower pool.
@laurijokinen61207 жыл бұрын
mercenaries are the normal units but with higer upkeep and cost. the reason you get them is for no manpower recuired then theres the n1 infantry: They are your main unit. think them as the opposite of cavalry until 1700s n2 cavalry: just read n1 but opposite then n3 canons. they are used mostly to wreck castles up

What is MEIOU like to play compared to the original game, particularly playing in China? I've heard that conquests are way more realistic and dynamic in terms of reaching historical boundaries, but immediately becomes painfully slow and tedious when trying to expand beyond the historical limits of your chosen nation. Does that mean I can't form a new Mongol Empire or Chinese dynasty that rules not only mainland China but also comes to dominate vast swathes of the entire Eurasian Steppe, and becomes lord over most of Asia? Can I not form a Russian Tsardom and then absorb half of Europe and the Middle East? The additional features seem very enticing, but part of the fun of EU4 playing out scenarios radically different to the historical timeline where an insignificant tribe rise from a footnote in history to one the largest and most powerful empires in history. Is that still possible with the way MEIOU handles things?
@noescape21087 жыл бұрын
You can, when you first unify China you are unstoppable, but you cannot just conquer shit because you need to build capital buildings to get more administrative efficient in your far off provinces, which depends on terrain along the way. Despite me having my Capital in Kaifeng, I never really managed to get efficient control over Yunnan before late in the game considering it is surrounded by mountains. Don't even get me started on Tibet and Mongolia. Also how is blobbing even fun? It ruin the immersion for me, at least EUIII made it harder to blob with it 50years before core, which is quite realistic considering the new generation of citizens would always think the province was part of your Empire. Meiou and Taxes fixes the problem somewhat with it province govern efficiently system. However, I find it quite annoying with its "dynamic wars", they don't make the game realistic, just annoying, you play as Bulgaria the Ottomans annexes your territory during occupation, while if I occupy Ottoman Territory i have to take them out in a peace deal. As well as they blob way to fast and don't represent the historical borders considering the Ottomans in my game control Vienna and Moscow every game because they are unstoppable, same with the Netherland, who keep annexing Denmark. They should make the conquests Mission based rather than core based like in EUIII.
@Smartacus987 жыл бұрын
Blobbing isn't fun or realistic if it's just a faceroll over everybody with no real challenge involved, but it is also completely unrealistic for a nation's momentum for conquest to stop dead in its tracks just because it reached some arbitrary, vaguely historically determined limit. That means that it is far less rewarding to go in a different direction to one a nation took historically. The game should handle the challenges involved in large-scale conquest by adding lots of administrative challenges in maintaining those conquests, and I don't just mean inevitable, unavoidable rebel spam after the end of a war; I mean introducing decisions and mechanics that involve the delegation, communication, bureaucracy and centralisation/devolution involved in administrating a large empire that offer more depth and variety than "click this button and wait x many years for rebel stacks to stop spawning." Or, in the case of MEIOU, just preventing the player from making large non-historical conquests at a speed above snail's pace. Just as it is boring to see one nation blob its way to success without having to adapt to new administrative challenges, it's boring to play a campaign in which you can easily predict what the map will look like in 300 years because nations are punished for working towards goals that fall outside or beyond the scope of their real-word historical territorial extent. I mean, the Mongols conquered the whole of the Eurasian steppe and half of the Middle East in a single lifetime, but in EU terms they never would have had "historical cores" on any of that territory. The point being that great conquests should change the course of history, not be bound by it. I mean, the Qing dynasty was formed from a collection of Manchu tribes that, aside from a spurious connection to the Jin dynasty via the Jurchens, had virtually no real claim to the whole of China or an indication that they would form one of the greatest Chinese dynasties in history. Until then, the Jianzhou were just another bunch of many semi-nomadic "barbarians" on China's northern frontier. The fact that they managed to go on to form the Great Qing and rule over vast swathes of Asia was the result of a combination of circumstance and military/governmental proficiency leading them to supplant the Ming as rulers of China. It wasn't pre-ordained by any means, historians tend not to like talking about inevitability when it comes to which nation rises and which falls, because history so often breaks from the expected pattern. In that regard the amount of rail-roading that MEIOU uses to curb excessive expansion might be able to superficially simulate the real historical timeline, but it doesn't do it in a way that is true to the genuine dynamics of historical geopolitics.
@redwallzyl7 жыл бұрын
You just need to work within limits. You cant just blob forever and expect to be fine while not having the resources to maintain your empire. There are no hard limits just difficulty and realistic constraints you need to take into consideration.
@Smartacus987 жыл бұрын
I totally agree that a larger empire should require more resources to maintain than a smaller one, that makes sense - as territorial extent and the ability to produce resources increases, the cost of maintaining that territory and economic power should also increase. That isn't what I'm concerned about. What doesn't make sense to me is that conquests within a historically defined boundary are much cheaper and faster than those that extend beyond the defined area in which the mod developers have decided a particular nation should expand into. So, if I am understanding the mod correctly, it will inexplicably be enormously quicker and easier for the Turks to conquer Anatolia and Greece, or a Chinese dynasty to conquer mainland China, than an equal conquest of territory outside of those areas, essentially stunting the territorial growth of any nation outside a predetermined range. That seems extremely gamey to me and no less unrealistic than endless blobbing. It seems to have replaced unlimited blobbing with blobbing in one area of the world and then an immediate near-cessation of major territorial gains once a nation has reached a particular size and shape defined by the mod. Of course, individual nations should prioritise particular areas of interest, but I don't think the game should artificially steer a nations expansion to such a degree, the constraints placed on expansion should be more dynamic than that, so a player or AI country *can* make large territorial gains outside of their historical reach *if* they play their cards right and have the military and economic power to do so, without artificially "fixing" the degree to which absorbing a certain territory would be costly and difficult.
@redwallzyl7 жыл бұрын
That would be mainly down to the regional CBs. There is a system called the great predator system that makes AI in a advantages spot go vary aggressive. Most of the artificial buffs and nerfs are being removed but there are still some problems relating to scalibility of aggressive expansion and warscore cost in places. We have tried to make regions operate in there historical systems to an extent. unfortunity those can be a bit gamy by necessity in places like china.

Nice video as usual. One note though, Yue isn't a Southern Chinese Dynasty. It's the name for the region that broadly correlates with the Chinese province of Guangdong. It also refers to the Chinese languages historically spoken in that region (i.e. Cantonese), and the indigenous cultures (Nanyue) that inhabited the area before conflict and assimilation by immigrating Chinese. So "Yue Chinese" is a bit like "Prussian-German".
