I was in the stadium that night, a very high-quality tennis match. Absolutely electric. The crowd was pro-Fed, but Nick's antics at the end of the first set made him the heel and he was happy to oblige. Nick's up 5-4 in the 3rd set tiebreak on serve, and serving like a demon through the 3rd set, and I swear the guy that called 'out' during the point has some bet money riding on this match because the guys in that same section have been jeering NK for the better part of two hours. The ball wasn't even that close to the line. There was definitely tension between the two players during the match. Nick kept trying to make eye contact and needle Fed with some comments which just made Fed manage his emotions even better despite squandering a 2nd set match point. Super classy from Fed at the end, could have rubbed it in, and done some big 'in your face' celebration or rubbed Nick's disappointed nose in the dirt at the net or in the court interview but just kept the on-court beef between them, didn’t say anything about the unruly crowd either. Just things that endeared him to crowds around the world. The atmosphere for the entire match was insane though, lots of drinks were had, people paid scalpers good money, and it was a quasi-soccer/Davis Cup decibel level for Fed who had just come back after an injury layoff. People were already saying that year it could be his last year or two but of course he had another killer year in 2018 winning a slam, masters etc.

MUCH much better, I'd say. Any match with Djoko involves lots of BL attrition & limited shotmaking, especially on his part. Charly may have hit some good shots, but, like Eubanks said, the Miami match had *two* showmen, with one of them also being the greatest player who'll ever live.

Cinci 23 was new Greenset slow surface, measured slowest of the whole season, plus new transparent can Wilson US Open balls, ultra slow new balls, so the whole Cinci masters was a boring defensive grind, including the final. Similar for US Open, only the surface wasn't that ultra slow as in Cincinnati. Mostly just a boring grind overall
