I have never toured, but I also don't have a car and driving license. When I seriously got into drumming, every time I went to a rehearsal or gig I needed to bring: - Two cymbal stands (rehearsal studio had two more) - Electronics (Triggers + Module) - Cymbals - two crashes and china (I used hi-hat and ride provided by rehearsal studio) - Pedals - Snare (Although rehearsal studio had one, I found that it was better to bring my own) Considering I had money issues (Living in a third world country and all), and couldn't buy much of the cases, even the cheap ones, I had to improvise which was almost nothing on wheels, but carry everything in some bags I found at home, except pedals and sticks for which I had a traveling bag with wheels and cymbal bag which I got as a gift. While it was no problem going to a rehearsal, it was painful to carry everything after it xD And now after 5-6 years of not playing and having decided to return to drumming, and having a good paying job; I have bought a hardware bag with wheels in which I can fit pedal case, two stands, snare stand and a drum throne. Snare stands and drum thrones were something I had most issues with, when playing elsewhere, but couldn't afford them. Have a cymbal bag that goes over both shoulders (earlier one could only be carried on one shoulder), and will buy a snare bag. I can carry everything so much easier now, but the hardware bag will be a small problem, when the public transportation is packed, considering it is long and will be fairly heavy.

Great breakdown!! Please could you explain how you set up your in-ear mix, and how you use your mixer and DI boxes? I’m guessing you unplug the cable from the floor wedge and use that, then send the trigger signal from the TM2 into the DI to the board. Is that right or do you do something a little different?

+Eugene Ryabchenko How do you do your monitoring with that tiny mixer? Does FOH do your monitor mix for guitars and send it you? I use one channel each for kick, snare, overhead, guitar, and bass and then click track. Maybe that's another whole video........

Yeah. I just have all the drums on 1 channel from the sound guy (except for the kick). The kick on a separate channel and the clicktracks with recorded guitars on a separate one. So it's usually 2-3 channels.

when I have to fly I usually only bring a snare , sticks/bag , pedals and cymbals. Pedals and snare on the same suitcase. I usually take the batter head off the snare and I fit more clothes there, usually all my under wear and socks I decide to bring. I usually play in shorts so I bring a couple pairs but most of my clothes are tshirts, socks and underwear. after a while you learn you really dont need to bring a lot of pants. I only check that suitcase with all that in it and the cymbals. Usually the suitcase weight 49lbs which is under. then I have a carry on with more clothes and other stuff. I find this way I save on checking the snare as well.
