The EUNORAU 48v 500w Tongsheng Mid Motor Kit is a surprisingly smooth torque sensing mid-drive kit, with waterproof connectors and a slim profile. The downtube battery pack keeps weight low and center on the frame, it can be charged on or off the bike and the plugin port is located away from the crank arms for protection. Thumb throttle offer power override at any level of assist, Full color display with easy read out and active energy use displayed. Additional work is required to install kits (or money if you work with a shop), wires usually cannot be internally routed, two bolt battery pack mount can be a challenge depending on the donor frame.

On the tsdz2 you don't need the brake cut offs - the motor stops when you stop pedaling - just more cable clutter.

@@deanhedin1615 I think they're mostly for folks who use the throttle exclusively. And/or if you set up the tail-light (I'll have to check mine when it gets here, but I think it dims/brightens the rear light with brake application if the lights are turned on, but I could be wrong on that)

If you needed to apply the brakes and tension the crank at the same time eg starting off, especially hill start, then you would need the cut off effect of brakes

I love this kit 500w with 15ah Samsung battery. Have 2 kits tidily fitted. My wife's Giant liv which she really wants to ride places now. I have the same kit on a 2018 Giant Roam Disc hybrid and I fitted the bikes original larger 2 cogs 32 and 48 teeth with the adaptor. Used the guts of the ebrakes and fitted to my hydraulic set up because if you have your foot on the pedal stopped waiting to take off the motor will want to move. I use the smaller gear to climb super steep hills with ease and on the flat stay in the 48 with the rear cassette 11t and easily sit around 40ks. You still have to pedal to get the assist. (I left off the throttles) So it's great for my fitness as I am 65. The pedal assist is outstanding and is so sensitive to input pressure on pedals. Such a good bike for just over 2k AU!

Sounds really good. Hope you don't mind a few questions: 1. Is it easy making this work with hydraulic brakes? I am thinking of the magnet in the brake levers that cuts the motor out? How do you get that working with an hydraulic brake system? 2. Do you have any thoughts on whether you need a suspension front or a rigid front fork with this kit? Any thoughts on whether one is better than the other? Thanks.

I thought I had to mount my battery upside down as well, but found that removing the panel on the battery mount revealed more mounting options through the heat sink. Not obvious, but if your mount looks like it has three screws and a bottom cover you may be able to do the same thing.

To get the space you need to fit the battery, use the upper screw mount on the bike and drill a hole At the same distance as the mount, then find a screw that can screw into the frame to mount the battery holder. That's what I did for mine & it works fine with no problems!

Battery mounting idea... I had the same issue so I removed the plastic cover from the bottom of the mounting base and drilled a hole in the metal to mount the battery then put the cover back. I also drilled an extra hole on the down tube and used a rivnut for an extra threaded mounting point. It started wiggling the screws loose so I used thread locker and now it’s all good.

Thanks so much for this review--pity the major players have yet to roll out such conversion kits, but if these alternative kits are out there, they are certainly worthy of consideration. But wraps or covers for those exposed wires should be part of the package as wires and water don't particularly get along. And anyone who does "a little bit of mickey mouse" is my kind of mechanic :)

Regarding the main power connector, On my conversion, I put an XT60 connector inside the cast aluminum box of the battery tray mount. This allows the battery tray to be separated from the motor's main power connector if you want to remove the tray. It's also somewhat protected from the elements though for a permanent setup, I would seal the cable entry to the tray box with silicon. You need some basic soldering skills to do this. -Dave Muñoz PS: nice video!

I had the same problem with the battery pack. my solution was to keep the battery in the original orientation, move the lowest battery tray slot to the upper-most cage-boss on the down-tube so there's one hard-point into the frame then 3d print some brackets to take the place of the water-bottle mounts. The 3D printed brackets are PETG and won't damage my aluminum frame. If this proves reliable, I'll post the STL files on thingiverse. -Dave Muñoz

I have a rad city 2017. Hi Marcus, it sounds like your RadCity has a gearless direct drive motor (I actually know this to be the case), and yes, they do create some magnetic drag. It's one of the trade-offs for durability and regenerative braking ability. Not much that can be done... their geared hub motors (and most geared motors from other ebike companies) do freewheel more efficiently :)

I checked Aliexpress for more info on Eunorau offerings. I have a Samsung 48v battery from a rear hub conversion I did two years ago. I saw that a 48v 500 w / 36v 350 w kit without a battery was available. I have two questions: 1 - From my rear hub conversion I learned that the controller had to match the battery’s voltage. What I don’t know concerns the battery’s management system. Do you know if there could be compatibility issues? 2 - I want to add a mid drive to a Day6 Samson, which as Court can attest to is a long bike frame. I believe the cables need to be at least 14 inches longer than on a conventional bike like you converted. You showed that you folded the extra cabling. Do you think it was at least 14 inches? I really enjoyed this video and look forward to many. But I want to make sure that you know Court owns the phrases “I love that...” and “I appreciate...”.

lol, I've been making moves to trademark some phrases: "anyways anyways anyways!" and "as you can imagine". I think the only length issue you'd have is with the speed sensor. I'll go measure the length of the cable and get back to you. I don't think it's long enough from my memory.

Blue gear bearing broke after 800 km. Large one way bearing on driveside will wear causing play. And built in PAS sensor ring will brake when parts have play sideways. I plan on converting my wife's Diamondback next using this mid drive. The mid drive feels very similar to the Bosch system on a Haibike. All in all this motor makes for a budget friendly ebike that performs very close to the systems used in the higher end ebikes.

That is the exact issue that is going to lead to E-bike regulations, the tires were questionable and people are doing this and insurance companies are paying out for injuries, insurance companies will only pay so long before they start up with their lobbyist and get laws and regulations going. Please make sure your bike is in good shape before you are going down the street with cars at 20+MPH. Personally, I wouldn't even ride an E-bike that doesn't have disc brakes. Rim brakes might work fine, but I distinctly remember how crappy they are if they get even a little wet, and I'm not trusting them at 20MPH.

there is e bikes with rim breaks in shops made by approved manufactures, if it was unsafe it would not be approved, i been down hill thousands of times at 20 plus in wet, with rim breaks, you slightly use the break to remove the wet before you need them more as you get to the end. but not many ride in the wet. unless caught, and then its get home time.

Everybody calls 'em braze-ons around here. Yes, I know they can be installed anywhere, but I didn't have access to a full bike shop.

Search KZbin for: "rivnut installation without tool". You can drill a hole and install a M5 rivnut anywhere without buying the expensive installation tool that works like a rivet gun.

You really need to step it up as time after time its the same old review just a different name on a bike and every bike you review is always the best. This is getting boring so you need to do more rides like your New York City ride and San Francisco City ride. Then review the bikes at the end after the ride.
