Great explanation of the system and how it works (especially for those of us with no experience of e-bikes or kits), cheers.

I thought your seat was very high but I have the large frame bike, I don't have much scope for raising my seat up! Really intrigued by the idea of converting my Pronto over to electric as a shopping cart, it already has plenty of weight on it so I figure I can spare a few kilos. I'd probably look at getting the hardest possible chainring/cog combo too, in its current state I spin out on the flat and can't get going on hills anyway, may as well get as much top speed out of it as possible. Like you said, 20 miles is impressive on these, I think my best days I've done 10-12 and that has involved some getting off and pushing. You can get a refurbed Pronto via Elephant Bike for £430 currently, an ebike with this carrying capacity for under £1k isn't bad, you said it's like a truck, I almost think of it as a wheelbarrow!

Yes my frame is medium. With the motor thay are very much a plodder, the assist only works up to 15 MPH but starts to ease of at 8, I guess it thinks the faster you peddle the less you need.

I think the gear sensor is a hall effect one. So it detects movement of the cable, not the tension. It's actually really nice to be able to change gear whilst peddling and not putting that torque throught the gearbox.

That's what I wondered, I just make sure the hub isn't driving before starting to shift gear.

If you've fitted the brake levers that come with the kit, just dab one of the levers when you want to change gear, the motor will cut out long enough to change gear and then will automatically kick back in (assuming you're still pedalling).

Thank you for posting the video it was really useful. I have a Pashley Roadster twin top and i'm really struggling with a dodgy knee and i'm thinking about converting it if I can. As such i've not used the bike for over a year now but it's such a nice, comfortable bike I want to keep it and start using it again if I can. I just need to start saving up. 👍

In the meantime try a smaller chain ring, anything to ease your knee! Are you in the UK!
@@NottinghamshireMadness Yes Andrew. About 5 mins cycle to the Pashley shop in Stratford on Avon.

I built one like this but shortly rattled my front basket frame to pieces. Yours looks like a different design of basket frame. Did it come like that or is it a replacement / custom part?
@NottinghamshireMadness4 ай бұрын
It a whistl version, they have a different front frame and dynamo light, if you see one for sale bag it as most were never put to use as they never introduced their delivery service, I think it was part of TNT

Of the 2 Bafang sizes which one do you need for the Pronto?
@NottinghamshireMadness Жыл бұрын
The one for the standard sized bottom bracket 68 to 75 mm, the longer is for fat bikes

I like it. I was interested in what you said about the 'twist & go law change in April 2015'. Just for clarification are you saying that it's the bike that has to have been built before 2015 - or does that date apply to when the conversion took place? If it's the latter then obviously any older bike I convert today which includes twist & go will be illegal, if it's the former then the value of older bikes should hold up. Cheers 👍🏼

Built before 2015, beyond that I haven't looked as I may not like the answer!

@@NottinghamshireMadness I've tried to read the legislation and as you'd expect it's vague enough so that lawyers on both sides of any argument can make a decent living. ;)

@@Mick_Holland I think any machine with a known date of manufacture can have many modifications but a frame number is definitely proof of year.

@@NottinghamshireMadness I can see an echo with cars & seat belts. Grab yourself a Ford Pop with a VIN that predates seat belt legislation, sling in a Sierra Cosworth engine & who cares? Got to say I like your Pashley, I reckon I'm going to get one, the 'leccy motor will have to wait for a bit. Cheers 👍🏼
