traveled all thru Europe on first class EuroRail Pass's in 1969, 70, 71 when book came out "Europe on Five Dollars A Day"...one month First Class unlimited rail travel about $130 US...i used it everywhere and was the best thing i could imagine... never an issue with any thing...once had to move to 2nd class because of crowded train....a holiday...i went in spring and fall to avoid tourists...i preferred being a traveler...took long over night trips to save on pensions and enjoyed long day trips...they were free, sight seeing trips!...find a place that interests me and get off and start again when finished exploring..no tickets, no hassles and no worries and lines...not even one issue with anything even the pensions...5 bucks a night and breakfast or dinner included...that was for my wife and me....took showers in the major stations in Rome countries clean shiny and bleachy...haha 50 lira....rooms not fancy but clean ..only slept and showered then out and about again!!!

I just bought the 2 month continuous Global pass for my wife and I. This will be my first time traveling Europe & we are bringing our toddler. The only thing you can absolutely count on with a toddler is that she does not care one bit about your schedule. She will shred your itinerary! For that reason and since I have no idea how much time we will be spending anywhere, the flexibility is priceless to me. Also, I intend to utilize all the discounts offered on other things so as to squeeze every penny of value out of it. Oh yeah! I almost forgot...kids ride free! I'm really excited about our trip

@@JPlaatjies2 shorter trips if possible. 6-7 hours was my daughter's breaking point. Also upgrade to first class every once in a while and look for the "Family cars". In Czechia there's a ladies only section. No men... No kids...it was near the Cafe car :) One other thing....bring your own food/snacks

I’ve used a Eurail pass to travel between France, Spain, and Italy. I like to make a longer stop in Nice, and then buy tickets for day trips to Antibes, Monaco, and Cannes, because those individual tickets are less than $5 each.

My plan is London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Venice, Vienna and Germany and I’m still wondering if the Eurail is worth it or should I just buy point to point tickets ? Wooow this is the video i was looking for!! is perfecto that you tell us your experiences and considerations, because is not just good or bad, but depends on many things!! I have been ocnsidering an eurail pass for next year, but a friend told me it could be cheaper by buying point to point, but also is my frst time in europe, and i do not want to set to a specific schedule, what if i enjoy a city more ands want to spend a day more, so love the flexibility. I may consider try both things, buy an eurail pass for some places like you mention, and left room to book flights or buses, or other trains for other places... and trye :D i thing it is great to try both, and get the most out of it, and other ways of transport. Also.. what about using eurail passes for Night trains? in case i want to travel at night sometimes? is it worth it for this? I wan to spend a month next year in summer.

You said that a flex pass is the best to do if you don't know when you want to travel, but can you reserve seats where needed at a last-minute, or do you have to buy these in advance? If so, doesn't that take away from the sporadic fun side of things? Also, I wanted to fly to Malta to make our way back to UK by train. Did you say you can't use Eurail in Italy? Lastly, can you get sleeper trains on the Eurail pass?

A better deal is the Flixbus Pass. There are very few overnight trains any more. There are many overnight buses.

Hi there! My friend and I are going to Europe next summer for around 2 months and we're going to Holland, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. We're worried about reservation fees racking up! What's your recommendation?

In France, the reservation fee for daytime TGV trains was only like €3 the last time I was there. That doesn’t apply to overnight trains. With those, you have to pay for a bed, or a reclining seat. I took an overnight train from Paris to Barcelona in a €35 reclining seat. It wasn’t very comfy, but it was cheap and convenient for me. In 2004, my friend and I booked a couchette (little bunk bed) to travel from Vierzon in the Loire Valley to Barcelona overnight. I don’t remember what we paid, but apart from being the last people joining the trip in our cabin full of already sleeping people, it was fine.

No. Get advance point to point tickets. They are far cheaper, but you must commit to specific trains.

Hi Jeremy, no! Unfortunately none of the Eurail passes cover public transportation once you arrive in each city, so you won’t be able to use it for the bus, underground, tram or anything like that. Hope that helps!

Actually last summer I bought the Eurail Pass while I was in Munich, then tried to book the TGV and ICE trains which required mandatory seat reservation, I could not get reservation at all for several days, then immediately cancelled and lost 15% on two tickets. Learnt a lesson or two it all depends on when you are traveling and another observation you could find the seat reservation for the same dates if you are buying the point to point ticket, that is a big downside as they have very limited seat reservations for the Eurail reservation in the high speed trains making it as technically useless. I guess it might be helpful only for the regional travel within the country. If any one has better experience using the Eurail pass for high speed trains of Germany, France kindly share. Cheers 😀

Back in 1985 used but Franco wanted reservations for Spain so saw a lot on 21 days for 310 usa dollars. Can one spend 3 months with no reservations. Yours truly Evans w Robinson

I will never buy Eurail pass again. Because: 1. You cannot select seats if you use their pass. System will randomly allocate seats. Four of us were allocated in different places. 2. If you buy pass from them the actual rail companies will deny to help you. 3. Their refund policy is not customer friendly. All most 100% sure, No Refund. 4. No phone no. to discuss your problems. 5. For any issue, their standard response " we are just intermediary, cannot help you. We have no control over rail companies". It's actually in their web page. 6. If you plan ahead you can get much better service form the rail companies directly almost at the same price. 7. Eurail pass eventually costs more or same because in most important routes you will have to pay for seat reservation additionally.

Forgive my ignorance; hoping someone can clarify. I'm travelling for 17 days and purchasing the Global Pass. When I input the 5 European countries I plan to visit, I receive "5 travel days". Each travel day is a 24h window. That means during each travel day you can use the trains as many times as possible. There is also an pass option where you have unlimited travel during the entire duration of your trip rather than selected days.

“I’ll be honest”. Are there times when you are not honest? “We” assume you are. Wing honest so ditch that phrase? 😊 5 Key considerations would be a more apt title! Try not to use the word “cheap”. Cheap has a negative connotation and indicates inferior quality! Use the word “frugal” instead, unless you are targeting a specific demographic who lies phrases such as “no worries” and “no problem”. “I, personally” a common phrase but redundant. Just say “I”. An old video I see - you are more polished in recent videos. 😀
