That had been the worse time in Mario Gomez' career. He was a fresh young player and even took away Podolski's place as the partner of Klose (Podolski had to go on the wing because of that) and than he did not score a single goal in the tournament although he had so MANY chances! For years Germans have hated and frequently booed only at him when he was substituted or missed a chance. It even became a tradition and sometimes he was even booed while celebrating a goal he just scored... It durated until 2012 that Germans started forgetting that, but in 2014 in a 2-4 vs. Argentina he was personally booed while the rest of the team was cheered. He wasn't even angry anymore and called it a tradition... The biggest surprise was when in 2016 during a 0:0 vs. Poland fans were cheering for Gomez to come on the field.
