Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

You should assign two different scores: one for crash protection, one for driving assistance systems. 2 stars is just ridiculous.

Completely agree, keeping a one to five star rating system whilst changing the goalposts all the time just completely confuses many people. I have no doubt this is far safer than the old car which was awarded 4 stars. I think Euro NCAP should have added a 6th star for cars with exceptional driving assistance systems and left the results for structural crash protection alone.

@@edipires15 There is, trouble is how many people go looking for that? Most will see the headline score and make their mind up on that basis. Quite misleading really basing a total result upon the lowest rating.

@@RickyG84 well the report explains why it received only 2 stars. I’m sorry but it deserves it, which is a shame because the new Sandero is a huge improvement over the old one. Even without the safety features it should have been able to get 3 stars , but it didn’t.

The Sandero Stepway scored 70 per cent for aduly occupant protection and 72 per cent for child occupant protection, a result that Euro NCAP noted “would make the car a four-star performer if it were not for its shortcomings elsewhere”.

The protection for occupant is decent, the problem is the absence of adas as default and very poor result in protection for other users. So you should not look at the stars but at the individual scoring

As I put in another video it because the sandero AEB is basic it just stops you crashing into cars not pedestrians and animals. The car actually would of scored 4 stars otherwise which would be a solid score and tbf as I put as well if you need to rely on AEB and blind spot systems you shouldn't be driving.

Hyundai, VW and Honda have recently introduced a central airbag and the rating system has been changed therefore at short notice so that it could have happened to any car.

it's the Clio platform, it's just the low one. CMF-B L. L from low, this means other materials in the structure.

Not the same. Cliois on CMF-B High Specification platform, while Sandero is on CMF-B Low Specification platform. Better buy a 1 or 2 year old Clio for the same money, than a new coffin Sandero.

It has decent scores for passengers. I would not want to pay €2.000+ for additional active systems. I had to turn off the emergency brake in my VW on every trip as it often braked when I didn’t expected or wanted to slow down. Good job Dacia 👍

audi pre sense almost never does that. It has only warned me but it has never actually freaked (bc it doesnt need to) The only time the car ever stopped by itself was when I was backing out and cross traffic assist kicked in, but that time was kinda unnecessary.

That's due to VW crappy technology, i've tried Volvo v40, mazda 2 and Toyota chr. Just warnings, the only time the brake kicked in i was going to brake in that exact instant.

@@mattiaandrini9969 pre sense on the 2019 a6 is pretty good. But I suspect that the newest gen vw golf and the Audi A3 have the same safety system hardware. Also I think the vw id4 and the Audi q4 have the same hardware

The new generation of Dacia is the safest ever. It's simply that the tests are changing every 2 years and demand more and more technology for driving assistance, otherwise you get drastically penalised. You get more than one score. Dacia got 4 points out of 5 for the protection of passenger (more than the generation before), 3 points out of 5 for the protection of pedestrians and people on bicycles and the 2 points score was precisely for those tech stuff related to assistance. Considering the fact Dacia is supposed to be a cheap car and most of its buyers do not want a complicated riddled with technology car, it's obvious it will not incorporate as much technology as other cars (it was tested alongside BMW ID4 and Skoda Enyaq, both cars being around 3-4 times more expensive than a Logan or Sandero and people buying them expecting lots of technology and assistance even when taking a dump). It would also add quite a lot to its price to add all these never ending new tech features. Keep in mind that these cars are made in Romania and a romanian is supposed to afford buying them. The average wage in Romania is somewhere at 700-750 euros/month. It's not like Dacia can't make a 30.000 euros car with lots of tech shit to help you wipe your ass, it's simply that nobody wants a 30.000 euros Dacia.

It is a tin can. Dacia keeps making the unsafest cars in class. Renault Clio uses the same platform as Sandero, but the high spec version, and it is properlly safe. Sandero, low spec version, plus poverty brand, and you get a modern coffin.

Yet another example of how out of touch the latest euro NCAP ratings have become. For its intended market this looks a perfectly safe vehicle, indeed no worse than the latest VW golf with its rear door that opened on impact. I always thought that a door opening on impact was considered an absolute disaster due to the risk of passenger ejection? Although the golf is 5 star safe of course 😏

@@dufonrafal let’s hope so - as such a substantial structural failure reduces your chances of being restrained within the cabin and safety cage. I believe an open door could also increase the risk of amputation in a serious rollover collision (even if your safety belt keeps you inside the car!) a concussion or fracture is far simpler to treat and often less fatal than serious blood loss from a missing limb 👍🏻

I'm guessing they've improved their standards over the years, so it might've been okay by their old standards but by their new standards not so much

It did get 4 stars out of 5 for passengers protection. Which is an improvement. It got 2 for assisted driving technology, that NCAP newest tests now consider to be the most important thing. A 10.000-12.000 euros car can't afford to implement as much technology as a 30.000-40.000 euros car. Most people buying Dacia do not want so much technology, that most of the time can't even spell or know it exists.

Good frontal impact performance, acceptable side impact performance and child protection. In 2007 it would be 5 stars. They gave two stars for the low level of pedestrians and outdated assistants ... This is the last thing a person thinks about when buying a car ... Renault thinks correctly, first of all, of the one who bought a car from them, after an accident he will come to them again and buy because he is alive remained. .. let's not forget, this is an affordable, reliable, safe car. This is genius. And of course, Sandero just need to equalize on Maybachs with night vision and autopilot, be sure ...

Separate the scores. Rating the car 2 stars just because it doesn't have some safety systems it's ridiculous. In terms of impact resistance,it definitely performed better than the last generation,which was rated 3 stars. It is a cheap car,in Romania 70% of us can't even afford the basic model. Too many safety systems applied on the car would rise the price,therefore nobody would go with a sandero that'll cost as much as a clio does.

Lane assist will keep you in your lane when you're distracted, and as a result helps avoid accidents. AEB is important for pedestrian safety.

Ask your self more than the european people because even if Romania is european state we have a bad infrastructure!!! A nivel estructural está al nivel de un coche del 2010, no hay más que revisar otros EuroNCAP para darse cuenta de ello. Cada año los requisitos son más exigentes si no, no hay avances.

@@BrianBarbaGonzalez estructuralmente no está para nada al nivel de 2010. Tiene la nueva plataforma igual que el clio 5 y él se lleva 5 estrellas. Si no lo ves, es porque no quieres. Esta prueba en 2020 se lleva 4 estrellas, y es cuando lo tuvo que hacer Dacia.

I think Renault spent additional money to remove the Web cam from active system to make it intentionally a lower class vehicle. I think they aimed for 4 stars but got 2 stars.

the sandero actually is a 4 star car according to euro ncap. its just that the rating of the car cant be higher than the lowest score it has. so just because it doesnt have 95 cameras and sensors, this is a 2 star car. if u keep the technolegy out of mind, in a car crash, this is a 4 star car!

Euro Ncapedestrian safety institution rated the new 12k Dacia Sandero with 2 stars. A 12k euro priced car could not include all the pedestrian safety measures that this institution requires to give a resonable score. Despite this scores, europeans still apreciate this model due to it s lower price and it's economical natute. No car can safely protect it's occupants if the driving speed is not adequate.

For its price good job Dacia. some of you will say its bad but look in this way price is 10k euro for its price you get %70 adult, aeb system is working well. Euro NCAP has made a lot of changes to their tests aswell this changes made it harder to pass the tests. Clio 5 platform but because of the pedestrians and safety systems it failed that does not matter cars are hard humans are soft if you hit a pedestrian in a Tesla or a Volvo (safety systems off) at a speed of 40 mph or 45 mph (64 kmh or 70 kmh) he/she will die same as the Sandero. it depends if you are a responsible driver not doing 100 mph in 50 its a safe car so Euro NCAP this car deserves minimum 3 star max 4. 2 star is so low for this price

This star rating doesnt accurately show how safe a car is. While passive protection protects you weather you a responsible good driver or not. Active protection depends on your driver and attentions skills, for a good driver it might be completely useless and make no difference. So a 2 star can be at the same level of a 4 or 5 if driven responsibly. The two should be separated or at least not being given equal amount of importance.

Poco prima di aprire il video mi sono detto " oh forse finalmente dacia è riuscita a fare un'auto sicura o comunque qualcosa di meglio rispetto alla vecchia generazione e alle vetture che ha ancora oggi in listino" poi quando ho visto 2 stelle sono rimasto a bocca aperta!! Certo rispetto alla vecchia generazione è molto più sicura. Credo che la maggior parte dei punto tolti siano a causa dei pochi ADAS, è presente la frenata automatica solo perché è obbligatoria sulle auto nuove ( credo che se non ci fosse stato l'obbligo non l'avrebbero messa) ma avendo solo il radar e non la telecamera, la macchina vede solo grandi ingombri come auto camion o muri, la mancanza della telecamera ( che riesce a vedere anche pedoni e ciclisti) credo gli abbia sottratto molti punti, e poi il mantenitore della corsia, potevano almeno mettere il segnalatore di abbandono della corsia. Rispetto al passato c'è molta differenza ma secondo me potevano fare di meglio.

@@alex9621 L'impatto laterale ha praticamente sfondato l'auto, poi ho scoperto che per risparmiare hanno usato la stessa piattaforma della clio ma nella versione low specific il che vuol dire che è un po' meno resistente.

First of all the car that is tested is the one that it was a best buy previously.(the volumes gives the car to test)so if the volume car does not have multiview camera,blindspot warning you will get penaltyies.Other from that the ADAS sistem is another problem for Dacia because it doesn’t include the cameras in the windshield.So to reach 4stars the volume car need to have already equiped with ADAS system with camera detection and radar,multiview camera,blind spot warning,lane assist in 10-15keuro car price tag.So…

Impact tests look good, at least 4 stars for that, the fact that it lacks some electronic safety systems is to be expected for the price point and shoud not affect the rating so much.

@@dufonrafal no it didn't "radar-only autonomous emergency braking system reacts only to other vehicles - soon a legal requirement - but it is not designed to prevent crashes with pedestrians or cyclists and there is no lane support. However, crash protection is respectable, with performance that would make the car a four-star performer if it were not for its shortcomings elsewhere." even they sait it would have 4 stars if there were no grading of cyclist protection

It's a decent car, for 50 km/h medium speed, on day to day usage on actual roads, with decent price. So, I not need more, for 70% safety at 50 km/h to 50 km/h is ok. I have great options for this price and is very nice/pretty for 12800€, an motor that work with dual fuel, as result I will take one. In the past, Dacia 1300 (I also drive this car) have a motor with 50 hp now with 100 hp is very ok, for me. But in my mind born a question, maybe an others VIP car constructors can make a comparable car, but with this price? The second question is, Why not exist a battle for who can do a better and cheap car?

The car is a basically built on the same tehnical platform as the Clio 5 so the Sandero its a less equipped Clio with different clothes on. And its just absurd that the Clio is a 5 star and the Sandero is a 2 star

Some people (thankfully, not in the comments) are going to be like: "Only 2 stars?!". But the truth is that they they didn't do the small overlap test anymore. Plus, I don't get why they gave 42% efficency for the auto-brake when we all so that it worked. The auto-brake is stupid anyways. Cars brake without your will and when you do need them, they don't work properly.

Mai degrabă, cred că, din cauza acestei stigmatizări a costurilor reduse, toată lumea se așteaptă de la bun început la performanțe slabe. Presupun chiar si un dezavantaj dorit în a ajunge la o judecată, probabil provocată de alți producători care nu pot atinge acest nivel de preț.

Parerea mea e ca pretul putea fii mai scazut avand in vedere calitatea materialelor, dar totusi la acest pret masina e chilipir. Eu sincer mi-as cumpara-o doar pentru circulatia in oras si putin in afara oraselor fiindca sunt multi ratati in trafic cu tigai si te omoara. More technology to assist you even when taking a dump, means a lot more expenses, so a far higher price tag. Use your head. People that are buying Dacia do not want all that tech crap that the new Euro Ncap tests consider to be the most important thing. So on one side you have the exaggerated demands from NCAP and on the other the Dacia customers that do not consider vital what NCAP considers to be vital. Dacia is obviously going to listen to its customers more. When the people buying Dacia will want and/or afford these features for assistance, Dacia will offer them. It's as easy as that. These new generations already packed more technology for safety than ever before. It simply did not add as many as far more expensive brands. Acting outraged for the sake of being outraged is pretty dumb.

I don’t think this is an unsafe car - far from it. To me this is just a reflection of how out of touch the euro NCAP ratings have become. If this had been tested under the previous standards I imagine it would have been rated 5 stars certainly 4. The problem with keeping the same one to five star rating whilst continuously changing the goalposts is that it clouds the whole thing. I have no doubt this is a great improvement on the previous car, yet Euro NCAP rated that 4 stars and this is 2 - madness 🤪 Don’t get me wrong I value safety as much as the next person and I don’t own a Sandero. My current car was rated 5 stars under the latest ratings, however for general use I’d gladly drive the new Sandero and I certainly wouldn’t feel unsafe in doing so.

because it doesnt have 95 cameras and sensors, thats it. euro ncap even said that in a car crash this is a 4 star car. it only has 2 stars bc its not so good at preventing crashes in the first place. and the rating of the car cant be higher than the lowest it got.

Measurements in the knees and femurs of both driver and passenger dummies indicated a marginal level of protection and the scores for these regions were penalised owing to potentially injurious structures in the dashboard"

Dachia is beautiful much more than Renault, cheaper, bigger, more durable, but that could kill Renault. That is why the security level will be always low... even it is based on Clio, the results were made worse, so you will have at least one reason to prefer Renault over Dachia... But Renault is smaller... Probably we will never see a Dachia with really good security level. It is in the range of 90s. Megane 1994 is much better. But when you decide to buy a new car there are more factors than just the security, that is why Dachia is so popular. I dont have Dachia, but traveled a lot with it and it is really nice, but...

The reviews are a little nonsensical they drive a 1300 KG wagon since 2014 from the side in the cars, and it doesn't matter whether it is a small car or a large SUV, what ? All get the same test, that makes no sense. These are different vehicle categories. You would have to go into an SUV with 1.8 tons and only with 1.2 tons in a small car. These people have no sense of justice and shouldn't judge either. That also explains this SUV hype, they get easily 5 stars and that this here is probably more about economic interests.

If you're actually a competent driver, Euro NCAP ratings mean nothing nowadays. Modern cars in general are extremely safe, designed to absorb the impact of a crash. The only reason the Sandero received a poor rating is because it doesn't have the stupid aids that would add several thousand euros to the car's price. The Euro NCAP rating is no longer a rating of safety. It's a rating of how easy it is to be on the phone while driving. Bad drivers pushing up the cost of new cars for people who can actually drive. Keep your eyes on the road, you should stay in control of your vehicle at all times, not delegate defensive driving to a load of sensors.

People and Dacia fanboys stating that this is "good" have no f... clue. Please do those who think of buying that car a favor and stfu. The Sandero didnt get 2 stars for nothing. It doesnt have the safety systems that are obligation by EU law! (so NCAP didn't change anything. EU did.) and mediocre adult and child occupant. There are better cars out there for the same price. Dacia (all cars) has NEVER in history received 5 stars. Only once it got 4 stars (only the Sandero) , and that one was pure luck. The passenger safety scores were always worse than most other cars. My Suzuki Swift from from 2017, that is still considered a death trap, scored 88% in Adult occupant, 75% child occupant, and 69 % in pedestrian. Due to missing safety standards it only got 25% in safety assist, rightfully so. THAT is a rating that was actually worth 4 stars if you disregard safety assist. The Dacia Sandero like most Dacias deserve their 2 star rating! AM-NCPA and Latin American NCAP even tested worse results duebto built quality. Dacia is not a safe car because it is cheaply built so most people can afford it. Deal with it. If you even condider the new Spring which is ja an indian Kwid on steroids, you can clearly see that Dacia does not care about safety anymore and gives a f about safety

What a disappointment the result of Sandero's EuroNCAP test. Shameful in 2021 to take 2 stars, regardless of the analyzes made in detail. I don't know if they have changed the method of analysis or if it is a boycott, the fact is that with this evaluation the appeal of the car has dropped dramatically. Security is priceless and this will cost the brand sales dearly. I have always been a fan of Dacia but this result has disappointed and embarrassed me, the cars may have become more aesthetically pleasing, but if they do not keep up with the times there is little margin. Mitsubishi Space Star (2013) = 4 stars without any kind of ADAS. Dacia Sandero (2021) = 2 stars with some ADAS. The japanese car is also lighter than this but its EURONCAP performance is outstanding considering it was engineered 8-9 years ago. Here in Germany the Sandero has only 6 years warranty against rust while the Space Star offers 12 years (+ 5 years general warranty) . The romanian car scores very poorly when undergoing the mandatory inspection and therefore I would not consider it for a long term ownership.

That actually made me chuckle as I have both a Volvo S90 and a MK2 Duster 😂 Can’t say I have ever felt unsafe in the Duster - even without it’s AEB, LKAS, Pilot Assist, Run Off Road Protection etc etc of the Volvo 😄 in fact I always end up switching off lane keeping assistance system where possible as I find them quite unsafe at times! All of the LKAS systems I’ve experienced so far (not just the Volvo system) have really struggled with the very narrow roads and lanes where I live. The lane keeping assist systems constantly push the cars all over the road in trying to keep within such a narrow lane (when sometimes is not even possible!) Often works brilliantly on main roads just hopeless on many country roads! AEB, ESP and ABS are brilliant systems, but should never be needed or indeed relied upon!!
