Euro NCAP Crash Test of Alfa Romeo Giulietta

When this car came out it had the highest score ever of any car ever tested, and now a few years later its down to 3 stars.

This is a test under the new Euroncap scorement, that gives to the safety assist systems more relevance in the final result. Due of this, cheaper cars as Sandero or Aygo, or cars with a few years as this Giulietta, get low scores because they aren't equipped with AEB and other technologies for active safety. This Giulietta got 5 stars when was tested in 2010, and the car is the same, and the protection is the same too, but now Euroncap gives more points for technologies that the Giulia can't offer because was designed in other era.

it seems euroncap has a agenda in testing specific brands' old cars but not others' with the new score system.

It's probably some kind of demonstration about how an older car, is less safe in terms of new techs, to get a bigger concienciation about the importance for the users to equipe this systems in their new cars. There are not so much "old" cars on sale. I don't believe that exists any kind of conspiration against some makers. Lets see, maybe other similar test are in progress.

This is not an 'old' car beeing re-tested, this is the 2017 version of the car (only a facelift, but still). To me this is Alfa's responsability that they didn"t update much on this version compared to he precedent. They could probably have done better.

It's not just safety assist that isn't perfect. Adult protection 72%, children and pedestrians less than 60%. Many (most?) new cars do better

Also, don't lok at the star rating, but instead read the report in PDF. Star rating are just for marketing. You will see in the report why it was penalised.

Better test than Golf VI and BMW 1 at that time. Only the Volvo v40 can be competitive.

La macchina secondo i vecchi criteri di valutazione ha vantato per anni il risultato migliore della categoria con il 97% di sicurezza per gli adulti, questo nuovo sistema di valutazione è assurdo perché non si può unire sotto un unico punteggio ogni aspetto riguardante la sicurezza in un auto, i sistemi di sicurezza attiva, gli aiuti ausiliari alla guida e la sicurezza in caso di impatto sono 3 cose differenti, la Giulietta ha ancora 5 stelle come sicurezza in caso di impatto, sono le norme ad essere assurde.

Old car vs new standarts

Is that a problem? No. Euro NCAP is there to test and rate every car the same.

From these things we understand that Alfa is back! When it's made a crash test from a car that is very close to the end of production; obviously that results can not be compared to the new cars (in 2010 five stars to Giulietta). But It's okay, as I wrote before, this makes it clear what do you try to do (understand VW group?), Alfa Romeo WILL NEVER BECOME a brand with krauts ownership.

Why did the driver-side side curtain airbag not deploy in the frontal offset crash?

On some cars, all airbags deploy in a frontal crash. But is it a good idea? What if someone then crashes in the side of your car? If sensors detect that the head will probably not hit the side of the car, the side airbags do not deploy, and you have them if you really need them later.
