In this episode, I take to the river euro nymphing for grayling on scottish rivers. Having the ability to cast a euro nymph leader at distance can give you a great advantage especially when the water is crystal clear. Although I am relatively new to eoro nymphing, I really wanted to get away from fishing a short euro nymph leader. The clear water conditions certainly dictated the way to go as trying to get close to the fish was not possible.
You got to check this channel out, you can thank me later. ‪@OldDominionTroutBum‬

Great to see you casting. I’m on the Euro setup journey myself and this has really encouraged me. I watch the American stuff ( I love a bit of Old Dominion Trout Bum) and I can see you doing similar casts. A Tuck cast as they call it. I have just bought some Sunset Amnesia to try the flat level micro leader setup as you mention. Keep the info coming, great stuff. Cheers, Jon

Thanks again Jon, yeah Cory has shown me the way, he’s really quite inspiring, much of what I try to do is from watching him. There are many other top euro nymph anglers out there but I think he’s one of the best at explaining what and why he does it. Hopefully much more to come on the channel as we push through the seasons. Let me know how you progress👍

Looks like you have mastered it. I’m so pleased to see some one in the Uk talking about actually casting the Euro setup rather than lobbing and fishing at distance. The Americans seem so hot on this and you are the first person I have seen actually talking about it in the uk. Tight lines.

Thanks buddy. I am going to do more euro nymphing and fly fishing through the year for trout, stay tuned for that. I enjoy most types of fishing mate but I don’t fish for salmon in fresh water, I think they’re in dire need of protection and should be left alone to do their thing.

Hi Douglas, just found your channel and am loving it and subscribed. I’ve recently moved to Balloch by Loch Lomond and am hoping to start mackerel fishing (which I haven’t done since I was a boy) this year. When do they become big enough to eat, and could you recommend some good spots for fishing them from the shore? I’m guessing Gare Loch is a good option and not too far from Balloch? All best, Jake
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and subscribing much appreciated buddy. The mackerel are bigger in size usually near the end of summer but you can still get big mackerel at the start of summer just not as many. Just stick at it and you will pick a few big ones out. Anywhere from Ardmore point all the way round to loch long can be good when the mackerel show up. Rhu is a hot spot but it can get busy with limited space especially when the tide comes in. On the opposite side off the base at Garelochead can also be good and busy at the big lay-by. As you may have seen from my mackerel videos you can catch them almost anywhere if they are there with the right method.

That's a bit more like it. Like you, the short reach of the method was what has been putting me off. I like the idea of a set up that allows a longer cast. Might need to give this method some more time. Some nice fish there too.

@@PiscatorUK-Fishing was your leader just 20ft of mono, rather than a French/Tapered leader? And how much does the nymphing fly line come into the cast?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 6 ай бұрын
@@alexallanangling it’s more of a Spanish type leader no taper just level line 20ft. The euro fly line is just really used for managing the line with your non rod hand. The fly line never comes out of the tip of the rod, which seems like a waste but managing thin mono leader with wet and cold hands is a nightmare. Barbless flies Uk do a good line with braided core, it’s the cheapest around and it’s full length. You could cut it in half and split it between two reels, you get me? I cut the welded loop off and whip in a tiny loop and tie the mono leader to that, it goes through the guides easier.

I have the nymphmaniac 11’ #2 I always have a dilemma choosing, what was your rationale for 10’ #3?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 4 ай бұрын
Hi mate, great question it is the 10.6 3wt I’ve got. I had the same dilemma when I was choosing the rod in the first place. What swung it for me is I already had a 10ft 2wt nymph rod and I wanted a rod that could cast heavier nymphs, be able to do some light jig streamers with the euro line and to use it for light dry fly fishing. So I wanted more of an all rounder rod. The bigger disappointment for me in the 3wt is not being able to cast light nymphs, I can do it but I feel totally disconnected from the flies even when I use a 5x leader. In all honesty if I didn’t take the plastic of the handle before I tried the rod I would have taken it back and got another cheap 3wt nymph rod.

Do you think a 10ft 3 wt maxcatch would be a good choice
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 6 күн бұрын
Hi Gary. Thanks for the questions buddy. Can I ask what your thought process is for considering a 3wt and for 10ft? Firstly I’ll give you my reasons why I chose the 10ft 2wt. I chose the 10ft because I wanted it predominantly for fishing small to medium streams, therefore I don’t need the length for reach. The 2wt will cast lighter nymphs easier than a 3wt and it is more sensitive. I can also cast heavier nymphs with the 2wt but I will need to make adjustments in my cast to do this. I have a 10.6ft 3wt Nymphmaniac and I can’t cast light nymphs with it unlike my 2wt maxcatch I didn’t know this before I got it. I wanted the 3wt for more of an all rounder rod that could easily cast heavier nymphs and very small jig streamers as well as dry fly which would be more difficult with the 2wt. You maybe wondering why did I get a nymphmaniac and not a 3wt 10.6 or 11ft maxcatch. Truth is, I had the money and I wanted to treat myself, this is the most expensive rod I’ve ever purchased and I am disappointed that it can’t cast light nymphs with it but it is 20grams lighter than my maxcatch 10ft 2wt.
