He sounds like a test pilot, meticulous , quick and knowledgeable about his craft while keeping a sense of humor and sense of being well grounded regarding that interal cockpit display, great interview

12:15 Re: the EJ200. My understanding is that the EJ200 was designed to fit into the same slot as the RB.199 with the same attachment points. By the time they got around to finalising the design of the Eurofighter they'd already selected the EJ200 over the RB.199 so presumably the air intake was optimised around the EJ200.

I did 21 yrs at Warton and 'fettling' is a proper Lancashire expression. Great interview.

Was there working on DA1 and 2 Front Fuse Build as an apprentice in 1990 right through to early Productionisation builds of IPAs prior to the production builds working in the Warton Chief Engineer’s office. The complexity of the workshare for design, build and quality/cert was thrilling and challenging in equal measure. A unbelievably complicated programme brought to completion by an amazing team across 4 countries with Industry and Military working together with a will to succeed. Only 1 aircraft lost during the development phase with no loss of life is testament to the design and quality of the programme. So proud to have been there with an amazing international team right through until 2017 with 3 Tranches and multiple export orders won. O and yes, we had test pilots to help us out 😜 and take the glory.

"Evolution never stop." So true. I'm an airliine pilot with more than 20 years in the same aircraft type. I am stilll learning.

Not quite sure whather to be impressed or slightly horrified by the complexity of the workload described 🙄 I reckon I'll go with both concurrently - Fascinating stuff for all that.

The amount of work that goes into a test programme is mind-boggling!

There can't possibly be anything safe about being a test pilot. I have seen so many stories of test pilots dieing in crashes. You are flying an experimental aircraft and charged with finding the limits of that aircraft. What could be safe about that?
