If at all, there are more fair skinned people in the Northwestern part of Spain (Galicia, Asturias) than in the Northeastern part.

Hola, hola, Claudia! Would you care to elaborate what you mean't by this 0:44!? The history of the Russian nation began under the European sky around 858 - 862. Ethnically and genetically, the Russian people aren't any different from other populations in Europe -- they are closely related to other East and West Slavs and they are also closely related to the Baltic, Finnish(ic) and Scandinavian people(s). The division between the two continents is drawn from the Ural Mountains. European Russia covers a significant part of Eastern Europe, spanning roughly 40% of Europe's total land area with over 15% of its total population, causing Russia to lead the European landmass by both geography and demographics. So, would you care to explain what you mean't by saying Russia/ Russians isn't/ aren't European??

Why do some people have their panties in a bunch because they are guessing origin based on features? Yes Mediterranean Europeans tend to be darker than other Europeans. That doesn’t mean the world thinks everyone from there is dark skin. Based on this video and another video I suspect some people don’t like hearing this because they consider dark skin undesirable and an insult. Notice Lauren didn’t get her panties in bunch when it was pointed out UK people tend to be almost lipless. I didn’t see a rush of Brits on here saying “well I’m Scottish and I have a pair of soup coolers on my face.” Chill 💊 needed.

You're wrong on your accusasions and assumption that Mediterraneans have darker sking than "other" Europeans (they don't, unless you're talking about a suntan), so let's me explain a little bit. First, there's no Mediterranean look, not exactly, more like a Northern driven, or Southern driven look, but even that is tricky. Actually, there's a gradient in Europe, so, for example, is Switzerland Northern or Southern Europe? Southerners tend to look darker, but dividing Europe in two is not that easy, in fact, it's impossible, really (the Mediterranean grouping is even weirder). People don't like hearing "this" because for the most part people DO assume everyone from Southern Europe is quite darker (not just darker) and do have dark skin (which again, unless with a suntan, is not exactly true either), and this "quite darker" stereotype comes from scientific racism and Orientalist belief of the 19th century, which was, as the name itself implies, quite racist. It is based on stereotypes, and although sometimes stereotypes do carry some true (again, southerners do tend to be darker than northerners), more often than not they are just missconceptions, and myths. The myth of Southern Europeans being significantly darker than the rest of Europeans (Northern or Central ones) was a way to alienate Southern Europeans, somehow trying to make them seem less European for they did not ressembled the rest of Europe, when in fact, more often than not, any Southern European would go unnotice in most of Central Europe, because, as I said, it is a gradient, there's no clear division North vs South, and not all Southern Europeans look the same either. When a stereotype (a wrong one) comes from a place of racism and alienation of a group, people belonging to that group are not usually comfortable with the stereotype in question. So please, don't jump into conclusions when you clearly completely ignore what you're talking about. As for you saying people do not think people in Southern Europe are all dark, let me tell you, I am Spanish, dark brown hair (often described as black), dark hazel eyes (they do look quite green under the sunlight, but normally they just look dark brown) and olive skin. Olive skin, by the way, just means a yellowish greenish undertone to your skin, as oppose to rossy or bluish, it doesn't mean dark, I have light olive skin, but I can easily tan (and burn too, if I'm not carefull). Thing is, I'm a pretty average Spanish looking girl. Very dark wavy somewhat curly hair, hazel eyes (the most common in Spain) that usually just look like plain dark brown eyes, and pale skin but with the "typical" Mediterranean olive subtone that tans easily. The first thing I got in Switzerland was the following question "Aren't you too white to be Spanish?". I was shocked. First, it was strange to start a conversation like that, second, I'm literally the most average looking Spanish person you can meet (in terms of pigmentation, at least). Dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin, just not deeply tanned, only slightly, for it was June and had not yet gotten much sun exposure due to my final exams that year. If you really think I'm too white to be Spanish, you're in for a shock, because at least 1/3 of the population are way "whiter" than I am, they may either have lighter hair or eye colour, and there are definitely lots of Spaniards who do not have olive, but rossy or pasty white skin. At least another 1/3 would look just like me, or very similar. Which means that it seems at the very least 2/3 of Spaniards are "too white to be Spanish". Shocking. Happened the same whith a Swiss guy in our English class in a summer camp in England. We were all Spanish in that particular activity group. After the activity he and I took the same bus to our respective host families' homes, and I told him "the first time I show you I thought you were Spanish" (we were talking about how almost everyone but our group were either Germans or Italians), and his answer was "I don't look Spanish, you Spaniards are way darker than I am". I repeat, he was in my group, we happened to be all Spaniards. He had pitch black hair, very dark brown eyes, and tanned olive skin. He was literally the darkest person in our group. Literally every single Spaniard in the group was "lighter" than he was, most were lighter skinned (probably same natural pigmentation, just not tanned), and most of us had lighter eye colour, and literally ALL of us had lighter hair colour, (most of us had dark borwn hair, but he was the only one with really black hair in our group). He had spent the entire day with us, he was the darkest of us, yet he told to my face (I was "lighter" than him in hair, eyes, and skin pigmentation) that we were "way darker" than he was. Talk about cherrypicking information and selective memory. These are just two examples, but I got plently of them, not just involving Swiss people (otherwise I would have thought it is a Swiss thing to be ignorant about Spain and anything Spain related). I got people telling me they had been in Spain and saw no one with light eyes (weird, as they are about 23% of the population, and the boy who told me so had been in Asturias where this percentage is higher than the average), I guess he was looking at his shoes while walking the streets; I got another woman in England telling me I looked Austrian and that I couldn't possibly be Spanish (like wth? Austrian? that's so random, and how is it that I cannot possibly be Spanish? What does that even mean?), and another guy telling me he thought I was French because "you are not dark". Well, I got news for you, 90% of Spaniards, unless in summer, are "not dark" either. And for the last time, I have very dark hair, usually looking dark eyes, and olive skin, I do indeed look darker than the average Northern European (Danish or Dutch, for example), yet it seems that although I am quite obviously darker than Northern Europeans I am still not dark enought to be Southern European. How do you expect Southern Europeans to look like? Mauritanians? God forbid you meet my family memebers, most of them with either green or light (quite lighter than mine) hazel or brown eyes, and many of them with significantly lighter hair colour (even a couple of dark blondes, go figure). You may think you're in Sweden. This may seem as a rant, but truth is that, contrary to what you seem to believe, it seems most people have a hard time believing Southern Europeans look just like most Northern Europeans just with higher percentages of dark hair and eyes who happen to live in warmer regions that allows (most of) them to get a suntan. We are darker, but not that much darker. I don't know exactly how darker you have to be to fit the stereotype of Southern European, but I'm sure people usually expect Southern Europeans to look much darker than they usually do. So, not only does the world do think people from the "Mediterranean" region are dark skinned (which by the way, is not entirely true, we have darker hair and eyes, but skin pigmentation is about the same all across Europe, a tan is just a tan), but they often expect us to be much darker than we actually are, to the point of describing a very typical looking person from the region as "too white". And just in case, again, everybody KNOWS Southern Europeans TEND to be darker than Northern Europeans, that's a given, and NOBODY is bothered by that. Though again,it's mostly a hair and eye colour thing, skin colour is not different, Southern Europeans have a slightly higher frequency of olive/yellowish undertones, while Northern Europeasn have higher frequencies of rossy/bluish undertones, but there's no significant difference in skin pigmentation. There's however significant differences in percentages of light hair and eyes. But the reason people are sometimes mad about the stereotype is not because they consider to be "darker" a bad thing, on the contrary, usually people don't like pasty white and pale skin, and it is often brought up in idiotic bickering when some of your friends or family memebers has still not naturally suntanned at least a tiny bit in summer or springtime. Having dark skin is not an insult in Southern Europe, having pale skin is. The reson some people get mad is because this stereotype is not that Southern Europeans are darker, but that Medieterranean Europeasn are so dark they barely resemble "other" Europeans, and this stereotype does not come from a place of analysing phenotypes (like the case of the thinner lips of people in the UK, that's not even a stereotype to start with, first time I hear it), but from 19th century bigotted racist ideologies and attempts to alienate Southern Europeans from their own culture and continent (and don't get me started with the German tourist trying to force Spaniards to identify as Arabs and dress like them or the whole Africa starts in the Pyrinees). And yes, people DO believe ALL Southern Europeans are very dark (not darker, but way darker). Of course, not eveybody, but from my own experience, and I've traveled a lot throughout Western Europe, many many people do. Maybe learn something about southern Europe and investigate a little bit more on the topic before spreading nonsense like saying Southern Europeans consider dark skin to be an insult, because it is usually quite the opposite, but you have to understand people are not keen on stereotypes that missrepresent them, less so when those stereotypes come from a very harmfull place. It's great you don't think all Shouthern Europeans have to look dark, but truth is, I, a "darker than Northern Europeans" Spanish girl got told that I was "too white to be Spanish". By the way, since I'm a sucker for genetics, just mention that genetically speaking the most similar people to Spaniards are French,Northern Italians and Swiss people,so is no wonder the Swiss guy looked just like any Spaniard and that I blend perfectly with the Swiss when in Swizerland.

I am from Plovdiv, Bulgarian. Very light skin, light brown to blond hair, grey eyes. People here are either olive skin or very white. It is common to see this specific type of appearance of very light skin, dark often black hair, brown eyes, thick wider but good shaped lips with some asian feeling to the face, i do not know what exactly it is (i talk about girls by the way, when it comes to boys the south europeans just seem more manly with thick eyebrows, darker hair, sharper features maybe etc) . Of course we are darker than the north but definitely lighter than the average american.
