I'm from Springfield, Illinois. We were the town that started the original corn dog. We call them Cozy Dogs. Ed Waldmire is credited with inventing the Cozy Dog, the famous "hot dog on a stick": He was stationed in the South, and he ordered a casserole with hotdogs in it. It took so long to make, but when he got back to Springfield, he decided to see if he could come up with a recipe that cooked faster and the corn dog was the result. He sold them at the state fair, and it became a hit throughout America.

You did an awesome job Andrè.. America has the breakfast version... you use a pancake batter with finely chopped blueberries and use a breakfast sausage link.. use the same steps to cook corn dogs.. Instead of tossing out extra cornbread batter and pancake batter.. you can fry the batters like a small pancake with a little oil and melted butter .. so the butter does not burn... make mini pancakes... I also do this with left over mash potatoes..from the day before.. add really fine chopped onion.. an egg. A little flour.. Garlic powder. Fry like a pancake in a little butter and oil so the butter does not burn.. cook until golden brown and the raw flour taste is cooked out.. you have fried potato pancakes as a side dish... you can get creative add other ingredients to make your own creations. Like cooked bacon and or sour cream.. Left over pot roast... I use the left over meat to make beef stroganoff. Chopped beef.. and mushroom soup.. onions cheese..garlic powder or minced garlic. and serve over egg noodles.. if there are left over vegetables from the pot roast.. I reheat them and serve as a side dish.. get as creative as you like.. Some dishes are better when reheated..My children hate left overs.. So I have tobget creative and make a new dish out of leftovers.. most of the time they have no idea they are eating leftovers.. just like potatoe pancakes. They have no clue they are eating leftover mash potatoes.. I love your cooking shows.. Some of the best chefs in America are the average Americans that never went school to become a chef. They just learn to become creative You are doing an Awesome job.. You are an honorary American chef..

I have a couple of observations, one. You're using cornflower, and it should be cornmeal. Flour is powder and cornmeal is has the texture of say stand next, your mixture was 2 thin and watery It needed more cornmeal to make it sicker. Should be thick enough so that when you pull it out of the cornmeal mixture. It wouldn't run off in the streams. Much less drop it would be stuck to the corn dog. Other than that, I thank you. Probably had the mixture in the recipe. Correct, it would taste differently if you add corn meal and add thicker mixture. Making the coating on the corn meal thicker after cooked away. Have a completely different texture and tastext otherwise otherwise good job

My mom made corn dogs, also called Pronto Pups way back then. My sister has her old recipe. There used to be a dry mix you could use for the batter, sold in grocery stores. Haven't seen it in many years. It is kind of like pancake mix, but with some cornmeal in it. We always put mustard on ours, the plain old yellow kind.

Oh my friend you make me laugh every time. Indiana here and the best corn dogs are from a carnival food truck. Yours look delicious! Shapes don’t matter just the taste. Needs a strip of mustard on it. I adore how excited you get trying our foods. Happy new year to you and your beautiful wife and sweet baby boy.

Good plan with the cheese and bacon wrapped dogs! The best is with BOTH! And a trick with the jars when wife is absent: Tap the lid of the jar on the edge of the countertop a little lighter than knocking on a door before twisting. it's a little safer then the pry away method if you don't go mad with the tap. Now that you've done corndogs, step up your game and try a Coney Island Chilli dog. Super meaty 'chili' sauce - basically crumbled ground beef with just enough liquid chilli to make it gooey, yellow mustard, shredded cheddar cheese and sweet cucumber pickle relish. (To other commenters - I specify the items particularly detailed so he can get the 'base' flavor to adapt to taste.) Then build like so: cooked dog in bun, cover with mustard and relish, then spoon the 'chili' over top, sprinkle on the shredded cheddar. It WILL be messy, but it's another 'must have at least once' American dish.

Use ketchup and mustard on the corn dog, unless you don't care for mustard. They turned out beautiful....so glad you enjoyed them!

annual county fair in April is the last time I had one....mustard or ketchup is always a must when eating a corndog cus they're too dry to be eaten without sauce....twist quickly & turn upright when pulling the corndog out of the batter to avoid the batter dripping & making weird shapes when deep frying & use a deeper pot so you can use the stick to pull the corndog out
@daveboone10402 күн бұрын
You did a good job! Especially for someone not from the states but try and make the batter thicker next time ... little less moisture will help you build up a thicker "shell" . But absolutely an excellent 1st attempt ! Well done ! Keep experimenting brother !

1. A bit of hot water will make the metal in the lid expand so you can get it off the jar without too much trouble. Alternatively, use the handle of a table knife to hit the lid in several places around the edge; it breaks the suction. 2. You might want to try fried cheese sticks. Rather than adding cheese to sausage, get some good cheese and cut it about the same size as a sausage. Put one of those wooden skewers into it, as if it were a sausage, dip it in corn dog batter, and deep fry. Eat with your condiment of choice - I like catsup.

Andre, you are HYSTERICAL! Gosh, you did SO VERY WELL with these corndogs. My last one eaten (here in the middle of California, ,where apparently our weather is close to that of Portugal and Spain at times) was a month ago; and in October in our county fair. Something about corn dogs at the fairs....DANG! They are the BEST. And PS: Best taste with corndogs is mustard. Blessings to you and your family!!! And HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

You have become my favorite you tube reactor because of all you have been doing with cooking the foods you want to try. It really shows your character doing what most wouldn't attempt. I'm a good cook but I wouldn't even make a corn dog from scratch & shame on me for it. Your perseverance & diligence makes you my favorite now. BTW after losing my husband this past October I have had to learn to open jars without him, among many other things, but I have learned to tap the lid on the side in a couple places with a spoon or butter knife make it easier.
