I've been there and my genuine reaction was 'meh' (I'm more impressed by the Rockies). I think to really appreciate Grand Canyon, one must go down into it to really get the sense of scale. Viewing it from above just doesn't cut it.

Context: I was 8 years old. I went to the Grand Canyon. At the 3rd point, my parents said, "Allison, we're here." I rolled my eyes and said, "I've SEEN the Grand Canyon. I'd rather stay in the car and read." 😂😂😂

@@Grizazzle I was 16 years old and athletic and I went halfway down the GC. NO way was I going all the way down. Some people did, and seriously regretted it. They camped out at the bottom overnight and then headed back up the next day. Their feet were blistered and bleeding when I met them halfway. When I woke up the next morning, I could barely walk and these poor souls who walked all the way down had to spend another day walking back up. Walking all the way down is not an adventure, it's a death march.

For anyone who thinks they can take on a class 4 without any experience, you CANNOT! It's not the speed of the water that you need to worry about, it's the rocks just below the surface that you don't see that are projecting upwards. Take it from someone who was stupid when he was 18 and tried to go down rapids and broke his hand.

@@bakerinthehouse5346 Yeah, I broke my hand but I had bruises down the left side from shoulder to ankle. You feel like you're in a dryer. It's just one of those things when you're 18 years old, you think you're invincible. And you do stupid things like trying to win the Darwin award.

Yosemite is glorious. Many years ago we used to camp in a tent every summer. It was paradise. The scenery is breathtaking. We also spent time in Sequoia National Park, home of the giant Sequoias. It’s approximately 2 1/2 hours from Yosemite. It is Heavenly as well.

I'm guessing his aversion to being near the edge of a precarious precipice is clouding his judgement on what the Grand Canyon has to offer. The Grand Canyon is so amazing at some of the dramatic overlooks, that I've witnessed in person an adult approaching the overlook edge and freezing on the spot and visibly shaking. I felt so sorry for her. Her family finally turned her around and got her to start walking. She never said a word that I ever heard, but was obviously terrified out of her wits. She wasn't even at the railing yet. Yes, the Grand Canyon is one of the 3 DRAMATIC national park jewels.....the other two being Yosemite and Yellowstone.

The Grand Canyon is awesome. For a smaller version, Palo Duro Canyon in Texas is a good one to drive through. Good camping and good hiking trails.

I've been to both, both are awesome. But having hiked 50 miles on the southern half of the High Camps Loop in the back country in June before the snow melted and from Glacier Point down past Vernal and Nevada falls ( opposite their route ) I believe Yosemite with magnificent Yosemite Valley is more beautiful. El capitan, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls are even better than the video in person.

As a Californian it is a bit alarming to hear him call the fires “adding atmosphere”. Slightly tone deaf considering every year we lose people, homes and many acres of wildlife to that “atmosphere “.

The Grand Canyon is beyond amazing. I cant believe he said that. Just ridiculous. Hike to the bottom. Its STUNNING. Camp down at Phantom Ranch. Go rafting. There is so much to do. It was by far one of the most amazing experiences I have ever shared with friends.

I was 10 yrs old when my mom drove her 3 kids all the way from San Diego California to Yosemite Park. Yes, the mountains look they are painted! It is the most beautiful sight and I can still see it in my mind today. We stayed in a tent in the park. It was hot during the day and cool at night. There are Bears but the Ranger exsplan's how to be safe. We heard bear's at night rummaging through our trash. We were fine. We played in the water to keep cool. We hiked and explored everything. I still have a Indian arrow head that I found in a stream. I saw rock climbers way up high on the mountains! I saw deer, and rabbits and big beautiful bird's. Yosemite is grand, breath taking and fabulous! To bad these European's couldn't focus on the beauty. Crying about mosquito's is silly. There is spray protection for that. I have mosquito's in my backyard.

I find it funny when Europeans come to the United States and they are really unprepared for how hot it is here during the summer. The average temperature is about 91°F 92°F which is about 33°C. And that's with an average humidity of 75% to 90%. And you're only 400 mi away from one of the hottest places on Earth, Death Valley.

My husband and I went up to Glacier Point on a cold, clear night and we were able to see Andromeda with the naked eye. It was incredible.

Florida here. I went to Yosemite 40 years ago during July and was amazed to see snow on the ground in the upper elevations. We took the hiking trail under Bridal Veil Falls and got wet from all the mist. It was glorious to see and I highly recommend it. The Grand Canyon doesn't have a lot to do like Yosemite does, but the Canyon is a must see if you visit the USA. It's absolutely stunning as well.

Just a couple of weeks ago we had an amazing May snow storm that apparently resulted in the most snow falling in a single day of the 2023-2024 season. So this year there's probably much more snow on the peaks than usual.

Texas here. I was surprised to see snow at the Grand Canyon in April. And in New Mexico. I was stunned. We packed two sweaters each cause we knew it was cold at night but snow? It was really stunning. I started a fad...a trend. I pretended to dangle off the edge of a cliff and my wife took a pic and then she did it and I took a pic. Behind us was a group of Japanese photographers who took notice. When we got a giggle and began to walk off, they started taking pictures of each other pretending to dangle off the cliff. It was an optical illusion. So funny. I pulled that prank on my son hiking in the hill country of Tx. love it.

My kids and I backpacked to Half Dome last September, we were hitting temps in the 20s (Fahrenheit) overnight with daytime temps in the high 70s, so for those outside the US be prepared for that drop at higher elevations.

That’s why we have air conditioning. The Brits were complaining about no A/C. - kind of funny. It gets very hot in the states. Yosemite is beautiful! Half Dome should be seen…amazing.

As huge as the park looks, the amount of the park that is open to the public is about 10% of all the land at Yosemite.

I've backpacked Yosemite several times when I was young. While many people backpacked to Ten Lakes, we would veer off and backpack at Grant Lakes. Two gorgeous lakes and a waterfall and no one in sight. Occasionally, a group would camp for a day or overnight, maybe two, otherwise, no one for a whole week. Hell, yes, you can hike it all!!! Not just trails to falls or El Capitan (a fav for very advanced rock climbing and paragliding) as long as it's in the park. Some areas are no fires due to elevation. I've stayed for short periods but don't care for that. And I've slept near snow in July. The biggest problem these days is that bears have learned how to get to your stash, even properly tied to a tree. This makes trailblazing much more difficult.

I'm sorry, but the Grand Canyon is definitely amazing. Is is the most beautiful? No, but it's so stunning it will make you lose your breath or equilibrium. Many people have said that Yosemite is not the best park because it's too crowded and touristy. Each to their own. Personally, I'm not a fan of desert so I have spent more time in the Appalachian Mountains, but like I said, Grand Canyon was stunning and rafting down the Rio Grande from Big Bend National Park was also incredible.

Bob Ross was from Florida, but he really began panting while in the US Army in Alaska. I believe he lived in Alaska for 10 years and then returned to Florida. He died at only 52 years of age of cancer caused by smoking But, Andre, you are correct that America's is beautiful. And those vistas in the park could pass for a Bob Ross painting. The guy was a master.

Guess what! Yosemite isn't in Texas and there is nothing in Texas anything like it. Maybe you need to reconsider the itinerary of your eventual visit. The Grand Canyon IS amazing if you can take full advantage of it: Flying over it in a helicopter, hiking to the bottom, taking a river rafting tour down the Colorado through it. If all you do is stand on the rim and stare, that experience in over and done in a matter of minutes. In that sense, Yosemite, Yellowstone and most of the other parks are more accessible but accessibility is not the same as grandeur. Mosquitos: Commercial repellants work quite well--just buy some before you go.

Texas is great. It’s a must for tourists looking for an authentic American experience. It’s bold, proud, and loud. Friendly people with tons of great food that isn’t always great for you. Everything that America is portrayed as to the rest of the world, you can find in Texas.

@@Cool.Impala And after you’ve eaten all the BBQ you want and maybe some Mexican food, although that’s available throughout the Southwest, and maybe seen a rodeo (another thing you can do all over the west), then what? You can spend weeks in California looking at different scenery, experiencing unique cultures and eating different foods including authentic food from every country in Asia as well as Latin America. I'm not suggesting people not go to Texas if they want to. But Andre (whose channel this is) keeps suggesting Texas is his main American destination and that makes no sense to me at all. Texas is certainly #1 in braggadocio but IMHO that's about it. It deserves to be part of a lengthy American tour. It doesn't deserve to be a single American destination.

Absolutely agree. So many Europeans dreaming on YT of a trip to America, and so many thinking Texas must be the place to go. This actually scares me for them. I hate to picture them scrimping and saving for a (possibly) once in a lifetime trip to the U.S., and they waste it on Texas. Hot, humid, flat, brown, scrubby and bug-filled, endless stretches of nothing punctuated by a few pretty spots here and there. Good BBQ, but is that a reason to spend thousands of dollars you may never be able to accumulate again just to experience? Big Bend is a thing, San Antonio is so-so, but nothing else is there that can't be found better elsewhere, in places that have more to offer with less of a drive to get to them.

Yosemite and Yellowstone are outstanding, as is the Grand Canyon (I disagree with him majorly on that and suspect he just doesn't appreciate the high desert). The big one I haven't made it to is Glacier. I remember as a kid seeing Sequoia which was awe-inspiring as a 5-year-old. Most of the rest, I saw as an adult, and they are pretty much all worth a visit. Maybe some day I will get to go to Alaska and Hawaii as well. To his Class-4 comment he is correct. I apparently went with my parents on part of the Snake River as a 2-year-old (obviously don't remember it and I don't think that is allowed today (no infants)). But...I did the Taos Box once as an adult (when at a high 3 runoff), and that taught me that I am not a professional at that and one of my coworkers had a very dangerous experience in his kayak and could have died. Growing up in the 50’s-60’s, my father would take us from Oxnard (60 miles N of LA, right on the coast) to Big Sur for a week or 2, then Yosemite and then Sequoia. We would change direction every other year. We actually got to see the “Fire Falls” from the bottom AND the top (before it got closed down for the danger it came near starting). The falls that you’re looking at while the woman is talking, isn’t the big one (Yosemite Falls). That one is actually made of 3 separate falls; The Upper Yosemite Falls, the middle Cascade, and the lower Yosemite Falls.

I just got back from Hot Springs national park. So far I've done, Hot Springs, Big Bend, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe, Badlands, Teddy Roosevelt, Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, and Smokey Mountains. In September I'm going to Yellowstone, and Glacier.

My husband and I were talking about portugal while watching your videos. You always say America is so big. Something we didn't realize is just how small Portugal is in comparison! You can fit Portugal inside of our home state of Illinois. Maybe it's something you knew, but we thought that was pretty crazy when we found that out.

When your walking thur the big trees it’s like a Disney movie. The trees are enormous 1000 of yrs old. With sunbeams coming thur branches hitting forest floor. You will find yourself talking in a whisper like in a church. It’s almost a religious experience. The valley is magical.

Yosemite is next level. I have camped, stayed in a hotel, and done day trips. It never disappoints, even when the snow/water isn't as great as this year. I live close to it. I hiked the Grand Canyon too and liked it but I like the desert so...I don't plan to go back, it's such a drive! Good video and reaction as usual, Andre💜 (new screensaver!)

I grew up 2 ½ hours from Yosemite and I remember it so well. That's where I got my love of hiking I think. I emerge waking up to a bear eating all our food and tearing up our cooler doing it. Now they keep bear-proof containers near every campsite to keep the bears out. I went into labor two months early while hiking in Yosemite. I've been there in over 100°f and -15°f camping up there. It's my happy place. Thank you for these videos. 🎉 me how lucky I've been growing up and going to various national parks as an adult. We even have a national park in the US Virgin Islands. I got a second-degree sunburn snorkeling there. I hope you get the chance to go to California at least long enough to see Yosemite and, if you don't mind the drive, you can go see Crater Lake National Park. I saw how amazed you were watching that video. If you take the scenic route through Napa Valley you HAVE to have a mud bath and massage. You soak in the hot springs afterward and make sure you have someone who can or you into bed afterward because you'll feel like you melted. Have a great day, my friend. ❤

There's lots of wildlife in Yosemite. Tons of mosquitoes, as she said, but also squirrels, deer, cougars, bears, you name it. Always check in at the ranger station and go to any bear talk that they offer. It can save your life. I was in a group and we were at one of the campsites a little ways up towards half Dome. Luckily, I heard the bear talk from the ranger because that night a bear passed through our campsite. I could hear it breathing and padding around in the dark, but I knew not to make any sudden movements or to cry out and startle it. Luckily, we had already stored our food in "bear safe" containment which was raised on pulleys to be high up above the ground, so the bear wandered away again. And in the morning you could see its footprints.

7:56 What most people don’t realize is those falls can have direct snow melt feeding them as late in the year as August and September. The top of those falls are around 9000-10000 ft, and Yosemite Park has part of the Pacific Crest Trail through it. I’ve hike portions of that trail in August, and I had to melt snow for water once.

Great point about Bob Ross. Trying to do those 3 you mentioned I personally thinknis impossible unless you are OK with days of driving between them. LOTS of money to rent cars, hotels, hotels. Pick one.

Finally, a video on Yosemite. The USA has so many beautiful, stunning, majestic scenic areas but Yosemite is special in my heart. Safety Tip: do not step into the streams that are ahead of waterfalls. The rocks are made of granite and granite is very slick. You will slip and fall and the currents will take you over the waterfall.

Yosemite is the most beautiful park in the U. S. In my opinion. The first time I saw it I got chills and tears in my eyes. It's best appreciated in the off season. Late May was my favorite time although some roads may be closed due to snow cover.

My wife & I got married next to Tuolumne Meadows in a clearing of trees by Lembert Dome. I've been there about 15 times and it never ceases to take my breath away.

Living in LA, I have visited both Yosemite and The Grand Canyon several times each. They are both spectacular and leave me breathless. But know the Grand Canyon hits you in the face when you first see it. You drive up to it from the south on a winding road atop a 7,000 ft forested plateau. And when you make that last turn, you can't believe your eyes. The forest suddenly opens up to reveal a huge whole in the earth. Stretching to the west and east as far as you can see. It's 10 miles across the chasm to the north rim, and a near vertical drop to the river a mile below. Makes you feel incredibly small. However, you sneek up when driving to Yosemite Valley. The closer you get, the more amazing it looks. Until you find yourself inside the narrow deep valley, and you honestly can't believe the grandure - which looks just like a painting - right in front of your eyes.

Glacier National Park is one that is a must see. It’s in Montana. A drive on The Road to The Sun is amazing. Another great place to visit is Yellowstone National Park. It really is awesome. Need to plan 2-3 days to see it all.

People that don't like the grand canyon, just don't like that biome and don't appreciate it for what it is. They just see a big hole in the ground and not a geologic formation of millions of years of a river eroding the land and producing this habitat and the sheer SCALE of it. It's some 270 miles long...it's huuuuuge.

I know. I planned my trip stupidly. We were going to camp on the south rim and then drive around to the west rim for an afternoon. It was a 4-hour drive each way and I was cursing myself for not planning to spend the night.

Before my husband died, we have visited and stayed at Yosemite many times. It has been a good 15 years I been there. These people mentioned they stayed in Wawona. I never stayed in that area, near one of the Park's entrances, but to save driving time, it is best to stay in Yosemite Valley where most of the tourist, shops, ranger station, gas station, cemetery, post office and eateries (not many). The other part of the valley has Camp Curry with their climbing shops and a few eating places. I have stayed in the motel, campgrounds, and right below Glacier Point (where the people drove to) is Camp Curry. You can rent a tent cabin and sleep on cots. There are also family size cabin and housekeeping. Swimming pool and winter, ice skating. There is a beautiful, fancy hotel and its restaurant also, near the Yosemite Lower and Upper Waterfalls. Every night in the old days, off Glacier Point, the staff would push over the edge of the granite, hot wood/coals near sunset. It was called, Firefall. They stopped because of the pollution to the air. When we visited Yosemite, we hiked up and back to Glacier Point going up the Panorama Trail (longer trial, but you past by so much scenery and falls and back down the 4-mile trail, coming down was faster, but I would hate to climb up the trail, somewhat steep). We also hike to the Lower, Upper Yosemite Falls and to its Point, Vernal Falls I did not care for because of the water and slippery rocks. I don't know if you noticed the half-sided rock from the Glacier Point View. It is called Half Dome. Very iconic symbol of Yosemite. It is massive and, in the summer, the cables are up to climb the dome part of it. Another iconic rock is El Capitan. It is known with the rock climbers. It will be good to read up and look at the photos of Yosemite and its history. How the rocks got the formations. We mostly we to Yosemite in the Fall, it is less crowded and cooler. Once the rains start, check the roads. We have had to change our plans because the pass we take Tioga will close for the season (rain, cold means snow). Springtime is nice to get the full effect of the waterfalls and the Merced River that runs through the Valley because of the melting snowfall in the Sierras. Been to Yosemite in the summer, lots of people, lots of mosquitos and heat. I believe Yosemite is getting more visitors, hearing these people that it took 3-4 hours to enter the park. Yosemite is a big park. There is also a dam there that the water goes to San Francisco. I know to get a campsite; one has to start in Jan.-Feb. to reserve it for the summer. There are groups that prefer Yosemite to cut down on the cars and people traffic due to air quality and those who go off the designated paths and hurt the natural forest growth. I recently heard, there was a rockslide and I believe to get to Nevada Falls is closed. One of the dangers are the bears in the park. You do not bother them; they do not bother you. Do not get near their babies. The other things about Yosemite, do not leave food and toiletries in your car. The bears will help themselves to it and to get it, they will damage your car. There are lockers to store those things if you are going on a day hike or staying at Camp Curry and the other campsites. I love Yosemite and also it meant so much to me because of my husband. I do not know if I will ever get back there again since I do not drive. Next door to Yosemite is Sequioa National Park with the large Sequoias. Those are something to see in person to get the full effect, but there are photos of how many people it takes to circle the tree and the hollow center of a tree a car can drive through. On the Eastern Sierra side (on the way home, we stopped and stayed in Mammoth Mountain, June Lake and Bishop on HWY 395) there is Devil Post Pile and the Bristol cone Pines which are one of the oldest trees. They will not tell you which one is the oldest, so no one will tamper it. I been to the Grand Canyon. It is a must to see, but it is not like Yosemite where one can do more and see nature.

Remember, in the winter, these mountains are covered with snow. There's an ice rink in the meadow at the valley floor. And there are ski slopes if you prefer. It takes a while for the snow to melt so learn about the different seasons before you book. Then book asap.

Can confirm the Grand Canyon is about one of the only places, albeit along with yosemite, that I can honestly say pictures can never do it justice. I never truly knew the meaning of that phrase until I visited those parks.

Yeah, you really need to monitor the road openings. Tioga Pass (CA-120) is only open a few months every year. If you can get through, you can get to CA-395, on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas, and you can then get to Mono Lake (which is AMAZING).

Can’t get to Yosemite cause it’s 3000 miles away from East Coast. I grew up near the Allegheny National Forest. All states have state parks that are just as beautiful. Every single state has areas of unique profound beauty.

This is where I grew up. I loved taking the back trailes up to half dome. Yosemite is absolutely my favorite place in all of North America. I've visited Alaska but I've spent more time in the Yosemite valley! Night time, you're not ready for that scary adventure! Be armed with a high caliber and bring spot lights with at least 100k lumens. The forest comes alive and so does the cats!

What I really enjoy about your channel and several other European reactors is, it really reminds me again how much of an amazing and beautiful country we do have! There’s so much political crap going on here that I think we take for granted all the beautiful things in our country! Growing up in the SF Bay area in the 60's, we used to take an annual trip to Yosemite and stay in the park. Unfortunately my clearest memory was our worst trip. They were still carving out the mountain passes to get there and we were so late to get to the park that even though we had reservations, since we did not check in until after 4 pm, they had given our reservation away (no credit card pre-pays back then) and it took nearly two hours looking for a motel with a vacancy outside of the park. That ruined that trip. I've been to the Grand Canyon in the 80's with my older brother when he decided to take a cross country trip after he graduated from Medical School in Cinncinatti to get to LA where he would take up his residency at LA Childrens. While it is stunning, its so big that its difficult to properly appreciate it. Especially since almost all of the viewing spots were built on the south side and it can get very crowded. We were told that the view was much better from the north side but it was very difficult to get there as the roads on the north side were not that great (no paved roads). This trip was also ingrained in my memory since at the time, they still had helicopter trips over the Canyon (no going down into the Canyon as the wind would likely be a major problem). It was my first ride on a helicopter and while the helicopter was designed for two passengers in the back, they had installed a bench seat where three people were stuffed so I was right up to the door which I did not realize had no lock, just a latch. A mile above the Canyon, the door unlatched and opened and I spent the hour ride hanging onto the door trying to keep it closed (I then understood why they had been so particular about checking that the passengers had their seatbelts on). Add the fact that even though it was not a windy day, the helicopter kept bouncing around - unlike a plane it did not fly straight, and its no wonder I have never gone on another helicopter since.

The Grand Canyon is amazing. It is very long, and there are many spots that you see the views. The best views are usually the busiest. Other areas may not be that impressive, and access is easier.

Make sure you prepare accordingly. Every year, we hear about people dying in Yosemite due to slipping going up the trails, slipping, and falling in the falls/river for not staying on the trails. Etc. Be careful and prepare because it is NOT your neighborhood park.

Yosemite is breath-taking, and a must-see here in CA! Everyone should visit, sometime. Part of what makes the views there so incredible is that the Sierra Nevada mountain range is crazy steep

I lived and worked in Yosemite Valley for a summer. Got to do the Half Dome hike. We used to get the dumbest questions from visitors, e.g. "What time do they turn on the falls?" "When do they let the animals out of the cages?" and "How much cement did it take to build Half dome?" I even heard of guests trying to put their babies on the backs of dears as if it was a petting zoo.

Yosemite is less than 2 hours from our home. It is the most beautiful park in the National Parks in my opinion. The Mist Trail and Panorama trail are the best for moderate hikes.. half dome is HARD but a beautiful hike.

The background in this vid shows Half Dome. It's the namesake of the clothing store North Face. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are 40 miles wide and 300 miles long. It's unlike any mountain chain in the world. It contains the highest mountain in the lower US, Mt Whitney. Which is only 60 miles to the lowest point in America, Death Valley.

I went to the Grand Canyon and took the bus around. On the bus like sardines, off, back on over and over. Then when it was getting dark I came out of a building, it started to snow. It was so incredibly beautiful that I cried. I think you’re right about Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone, but add the Redwoods. You can’t imagine them. Yosemite, the Redwoods and Crater Lake are not terribly far apart… and the Pacific Ocean is on the drive.

We were there a couple weeks ago, stunning!!! The waterfalls are amazing. If you haven't already you should check out Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon, CA. They have sequoia trees that are thousands of years old and absolutely huge! We are lucky to live about 5 hours away so we will definitely be going back. We went in April and only had a 20 minute wait to get into Yosemite. Also, the high temp was in the 60s (F).

There is lots of desktop backgrounds from Yosemite. I think I would do Grand Tetons or Glacier first but Yosemite is beautiful. Yosemite is known for it's rock falls. Normally you don't have to be careful of snakes. You may see one, but just walk around them. And they may run away in any case.
