I can't help but think that one of the major stage races in woman cycling shouldn't run paralel to the mans tour de france

it's the only way to schedule the two biggest summer stage races (TdF and Giro) in summer for both men's and women's calendars. women's TdF is in Aug, so the women's Giro would have to be way earlier, like late April~May before the men's giro if you didn't want it in July.

@@c-record this year might be special because of the olympics, but in general I have to agree with OP. And there was plenty of time between the Men's Giro and the Men's TdF for an 8 day Women's Giro. It would maybe overlap with the Dauphiné or the Tour de Suisse, but still better than overlapping with the TdF...

Wins like these just highlight how weak the competition is in women's "pro" cycling--and how poorly organized the teams are. You have a classic, wide, flat sprint finish with the entire peloton there... and only ONE team managed to execute a lead out and a sprinter. ONE team. So... it was Kopecky sprinting against.... herself. Which is a perfect metaphor for women's "pro" cycling.
