@@jean-jacqueslavigne3109 I presume he was trying to win the stage plus gain some time on his rivals right? I mean he had the black armband on in memory of his ex-teammate who was killed last week so I presume he was looking to win the stage in his memory. Tbh, he'll probably be in pink in Stage 2 anyway looking at the finish.

He did this in last year's TdF too - burned too much energy at the start while Visma made sure he didn't get too much time. It's fun to watch, but from a tactical perspective there is no good reason for him to be sprinting for stage wins on stage 1 of the Giro.

We're worried (based on the near dozen top-tier injured riders in early 2024) about the safety of the peloton more than ever (perhaps) ~ and now they have drones overhead that nearly ran into a tree branch? Jeeebus crisp! What's the UCI TV rights contract stipulation, if a drone shatters on a tree or pole and deadly shards blind or maim the racers? I've got zero problem with drones, as long as they remain above (minimum height?) or behind (minimum distance = ?), or on the side. UCI or whichever Event Organizer gave a fine(!) to a TV helicopter crew or pilot for flying too low (or close) to riders in a race in 2023 (or 2022?), I believe for the strong winds they generated. We better not lose another participant before Regulations are imposed. If they exist, I haven't found them yet.
