I had the luck to watch in live in Mai 2017 and Onuka was a total revelation for me, so incredible high fly performance!! Unfortunately in 13th of Mars 2022 I am really scared about their situation now, with the evil dictator Putine destroying Ukraine only for his own pleasure and total no reasonable reason. Peace to them and to Ukraine 🇺🇦!

Everything will turn good in the end for them. Historically the Russian's stole so much from the Slav's & swollowed up so many nations. One day things will return to how they should be. As for Nata & her Onuka project, I seriously think the world should know more about her. She is definitely an absolute genius, a scholar on ancient history & to create music as powerful as Kraftwerk & Sinead O'Connor combined.

ONUKA is the greatest contemporary Ukrainian musician. The way she merges folk instruments and modern sound is amazing. At the beginning she played the sopilka, traditional Ukrainian instrument. Then, in that interesting part, she used the bugai. Almost nobody heard of it before she released that song. And these long trumpets are called the trembita and it's the longest instrument in the world. All about this performance was spectacular. I'm proud we have Onuka in Ukraine because they make intelligent music, not cheesy pop-songs. They make folk music fashionable and that's just unbelieveable that Ukrainian youth prefers listening to this type of music. And please watch the opening performance MONATIK - Spinning. This guy is the most popular Ukrainian singer, his songs are listened in Russia, Belarus and so on... He is very talented!

Every time I hear this performance the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Her voice is divine & the sounds are out of this world. I only wish that her music was properly marketed & promoted in the UK. She is a phenomenal artist & hugely influenced (as she says) by Kraftwerk. Very much like a cross between Sinead O'Connor & Kraftwerk with hints of Kate Bush and Orbital.

@TheMarmaladeFox6 жыл бұрын
The "hair drum" is called Bugay [buga'i], the other instrument that the blond girl (her name is Nata) is playing on the microphone is called sopilka [sopi:'lka]. ONUKA is a band, the three girls wearing white Star Wars costumes are actually those who are in the band. The other people on the stage are the Naoni orchestra. One of the interesting facts about one of the Megamix songs is that the sound of pronounsed words that appear on the screen in white letters are actually the recordings of google translator pronouncing these words in Ukrainian. The translation of the lyrics is: I... to breathe...to want... I... to stop... the talk... I... to push... the countdown...only...the future...ready. Yes, it is all in the infinitive form and, as Nata once said in one of her interviews, it is supposed to be the sound of Chornobyl nuclear power plant's 'voice' before the explosion in april 1986 (read about it in the Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster). So actually the song 'Vidlik' (The countdown) has a deep meaning. The word 'onuka' in Ukrainian means "the granddaughter" so the band was named as a tribute to band leader's grandfather who was a famous Ukrainian folkloric instruments maker and expert. And now Nata continues his work making the authentic Ukrainian instruments sound in a cool modern way.

When I think of the 5:00 when she starts to list words, I swear I can feel the Winter Soldier coming to hunt something/someone lol! And yeah, I love the fact that she looks like a Stormtrooper but it's not. The whole robotic effect of her performance makes it so unique and memorable, and it's basically why so many people after seeing it basically rush to buy her music on itunes, I remember the comments about her getting so much love all around Europe. Even her voice sounds robotic but not improved to correct it, but just to give it some sur-human vybe. And the traditional aspect via the instruments and sounds, it's beautiful, the perfect association between the old and the new, traditional music and technology. I would love to see this but in the competition too. I'm really all for every single genre of music to be represented in the contest and show more of how yes Europe does have also something unique in every different countries. Ok, I'll stop here because I can already see myself rant and all so conclusion, ONUKA is one of the best Interval act ever. Nova Lisboa is in my heart since the last edition, I feel Portugal by wanting too much simplicity kind of made their interval seem meh but all the song were so great, pure magic but I feel it would have been better with more life to their interval.

Jake, these "weird" musical instruments you saw are Ukrainian national instruments: trembita (looooong pipe up to 26 feet long), tsymbaly (like piano, but with strings only and played by "drumsticks"), buhai (the most unusual sound you heard is made by this instrument), bandura and much more. Google these names to see the pictures. And ONUKA is really awesome, my advice is to listen to her music!

You will definitely love ukrainian singer ILLARIA. They way she mixes ethnic motives with modern pop trends is impressive. I hope she will represent Ukraine in the future

Onuka means granddaughter. The grandfather of the lead voice of this band was a recognized Ukrainian instrument luthier. She uses many of this instruments in her music. I’m happy you liked it. Valentina.

All the interval acts of last year to me were great! Could you please react to Serbia 2008 and Estonia 2009? I love how good they represent their own countries really well, you watch the performance and hear the song and think: WOW that's Estonia! WOW that's Serbia!
