I totally agree, this movie is pure awesomeness! I love how they have tried to make all the fictive entries over the top and still it feels like believable entries. I mean, Lemtovs entire could very well be a Russian song, the Swedish song is a technically perfected and polished number, as it always is, we have a Lordi clone and a typical Greek song. I also love how the Icelandic broadcasting station is actually trying to win the completion when I’m real life they don’t want to win. And that is portrayed in the bad guy played by one of my favorite Swedish actors. But the absolute highlight of the movie is the part in this clip, it blew my mind and filled at least a part of the void that the cancelled Eurovision left in my heart.

This song basically made me appreciate Eurovision. We watched the movie because it was "a silly Will Ferrell movie" but we couldn't figure out why the movie would put such a high production value on this song. Then we googled all the singers in this song and throughout the movie and we were blown away by the talent of Eurovision. I am impressed. For a "silly Will Ferrell movie" Will Ferrell and the other production staff REALLY did their homework and essentially produced a love letter to Eurovision.

Frankly, there's an oversaturation of movies that want to "make you think" and in turn just makes you sad. Not that that's a bad thing but, just my opinion, it's only good in small doses. I watch movies to be entertained and to escape the cruel realities of the world so I do not fancy fiction trying to portray this cruel reality in their world. Forgive me for ranting, I just needed to get that off my chest. That being said, I should check this movie out. The reception in this video seems to be positive.

You know, just like a tiny bit. In this scene you can see it especially. I saw this comment on another youtube video, but i completely agree: Something I liked with the movie what that it started out tricking us to think that the central conflict would be between the contestants, especially the Russian and Greek contestants being portrayed as the "bad" guys trying to split up the band. However in the end you realise neither of those tried to do so, and that the Russian guy just wanted Rachel McAdams' character to be the best she could be. I really appreciate that, since making the conflict between the contestants a more central plot line could have been an easy way. At the same time that doesn't feel at all true how Eurovision is, where all artists get along so well together.

I absolutely LOVE this movie, except for one kinda big thing. I feel like Sigrit and Alexander should have ended up together. (He totally could be gay, but his specific sexuality hasn’t been canonically confirmed yet. If they have confirmed something please tell me but this comment is written under the assumption he’s bi.) First of all, I think Lemtov was kind of a better person than Lars...the whole movie Lars was pretty selfish and had tons of fits, while Alexander focused on helping Sigrit be the best she could be, and being there when she needed him. He’s the one who helped her start to unlock her full potential at the songalong too! Plus, it became super obvious that he actually cared a lot for her when he sat with her after Fire Saga’s performance at the semi-finals. While he was there supporting Sigrit, Lars called HER selfish for wanting to stay, and threw a colossal fit which resulted in him totally abandoning her and going back to Iceland. Besides, it was kind of his fault that their performance was...well...the way it was. Sure, Lars did improve as a character at the end, but just because he became a sort of better person, that doesn’t mean it cancels out all the things he did in the beginning, and it certainly doesn’t mean he deserved Sigrit. (Also finally, Stevens and McAdams have great chemistry and I would love to see them in more stuff together.) I guess I just feel like the movie would have been better if she was like distraught over Lars rejecting her at the beginning, but then she meets Lemtov at Eurovision who supports her and helps her unlock her true potential as an artist. The songalongcould be where Sigrit finally starts to let go of Lars and begin to fall in love with Alexander. It would have been an unexpected twist, and a fitting match.
@Sahi_PK4 жыл бұрын
They captured the European (and Australian) spirit with that. It's not (so much) about winning, but more about improving and enjoying yourself, whereas in the US it seems that "winning" is always the most important (as far as I know from the media, to be honest I've never been in the US)

To the writer, producers, director, cast & crew, composers, writers of the original songs, and specifically Will & Rachel, I want to take this moment to say "thank you". From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Thank you for producing the funniest, most heartfelt comedy of the year. At a time of unprecedented darkness and despair, you graced us with a feel-good experience full of inspiration, love, kindness, and an absolutely amazing collection of original songs that will most assuredly make this movie a cult classic for years and decades to come. This movie is exactly what the world, as well as me personally, needed. Please know that you are greatly appreciated for the gift you have bestowed upon us. Thank you so very much.

Mark Annotto I have watched this a few times and I love it. You are right it was exactly what we all needed right now. Joy in a time of stress. It’s pretty darn funny too 😄

@@Kmcdnrn94 I couldn't agree more, Kate! Rachel's performance was excellent. I'm so glad that she wasn't just the typical "straight-woman" character, but rather a layered character who matched Will beat for beat in the silliness department. I can easily see this movie becoming a cult comedy that is re-watched annually for years to come. To say that this was a "pleasant surprise" during this period of time is a massive understatement. It was a shot of pure joy that was desperately needed and I will forever be grateful that it came at exactly the right moment.

@@markannotto how they kept a relatively straight face through "it's the Mayor of Winning" scene is a wonder. By the end, I'm sure that laughter was 100% unscripted! They do indeed look like they were having fun. A shot of pure joy is a great summation of the movie. Cheers Mark, enjoy your next viewing! :)

I always get a litle emotional when I see Rachel McAdams character break out in song after the line "My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender". It's like there was poetic meaning for her to start singing after hearing that line cause it was her surrendering to her urge to let herself out and be confident in herself.
