Amazing this song translated this well into English. It won in Sweden thanks to Lena herself, and her personality. She is known for her quirkiness. The song was created around her and for her. Those can be hard to translate and keep the feeling. But thankfully Europe got it

*It Hurts* Lyrics: Nobody but me could know the way I feel I'm standing on the rooftop And I'm crying out your name I'm looking for an answer And for somebody to blame 'Cause even though it's over You linger on my mind, oh Hurts, oh it hurts, really hurts In the middle of the night In the light of the day You know that it hurts Oh it hurts, really hurts And I wish I could be stronger No longer afraid Nobody but me could know the way I feel Oh it hurts, oh it hurts I'm trying to forget love The pain I feel inside I'm clinging to my pillow And the tears I cannot hide I wish it could be over So I can start anew, oh Hurts, oh it hurts, really hurts In the middle of the night In the light of the day You know that it hurts Oh it hurts, really hurts And I wish I could be stronger No longer afraid Nobody but me could know the way I feel Oh it hurts, oh Not easy to remember And even harder to forget Whenever I surrender (whenever I surrender) Oh, you're always on my mind (Hurts, oh it hurts, really hurts) In the middle of the night In the light of the day You know that it hurts Oh it hurts, really hurts And I wish I could be stronger No longer afraid Nobody but me, could know the wаy I feel Oh it hurts, ooh it hurts I wish I could be stronger Oh, but it hurtѕ

People, she is a goofball in Sweden. She often has a humoristic but professional approach to her singing. The song reeks with cynism, don't you see it? :P Anyway, I KNEW her sense of humour wouldn't be understood by the broad public in the ESC. There were other entries in our national contest that would have been better candidates to represent us in ESC than Lena PH. Too bad.

Swedish version is much better if she sang in Swedish maybe a winner. Lena is great that album in 2004 including this song was 5 star. She deserved also to represent Sweden in the late 80s. Back then was more conservative on the stage, maybe if she was the same now would win because audience would focus on the excellent song and her voice than her style and pinky appearance

Like others have said; the Swedish version is much, much better. Translating this song is a hopeless task. There are nuances in the language and in the sound of the words that will inevitably get lost. And her performance that some think are too happy considering the subject, isn't a problem in the Swedish version because of some of these aspects. And her performance in the Swedish version also is a bit different, more equivocal so to speak. It's easier to express yourself correctly while singing in your native language. In a foreign language, the performance easily loses some of its naturalness. But still, I think they did the right thing to do it in English. Singing it in Swedish to the international audience wouldn't have made any sense.

It was a guess by looking at your video clips/play lists. I understand perfectly fine what you mean. You want every song to be a 101 song and fit into the same box, have the same print. I'm more liberal than you and I can appreciate different ways to express sadness(or whatever the feeling may be).

I'm not from the UK, but I'll take that as a compliment about how good my English is. You don't understand what I mean, it seems. She sings about something sad, so looking happy is just not right. Seems you don't realy care about what you are singing. If the lyrics are sad you should hear it in her voice, if the lyrics are happy then you should hear a happy singer. That's music, giving a suited sound to your words to get a stronger effect.
@mortiscia11 ай бұрын
She should have sung it in Swedish instead, more dynamic and stronger emoting.
