@deniswauchope37882 ай бұрын
The electric grid is totally inadequate for a multitude of EVs, and that won't change for decades, if ever. Worse, many states & countries are shutting down reliable power generation stations (coal, gas, oil, nuclear) & replacing them with windmills & solar panels; which don't produce as much power nor are they consistent. EVs aren't "green," they rape the environment for the materials to make their batteries, and those costly batteries have a finite lifespan. No one wants a used EV, there's no telling what condition the battery is in, and they're toxic bombs which might go off without any warning at the best of times. Much as I like Elon Musk's strong stance on freedom of speech, his EVs don't impress me in the slightest!

Have a sheltered, full service charging station with an attendant to help with problems and issues and collect the money. The way things are now, you are on your own, the outdoor charging station stands bare alone, you have to everything yourself, and what do you do, during inclement weather? That would be a worthwhile business opportunity if it weren't for the fact that there's very little margin in re-selling electricity, and that power companies charge more when demand is high. My wife and I have been driving a Tesla Model Y for 3 years and a Mercedes EQE for 3 months now. Tesla chargers have been 100% reliable and wait times are non-existent. 45 minutes for a full charge. We just kick back and watch Netflix or KZbin. We charge our Mercedes using the free 2 years of Electrify America. I typically have to wait about half hour for a charging station to open up but a 30 minute charge on one of their super charging stations will give you about 1/2 to 2/3 tank and they've been 95% reliable. We're in Orange County, CA. We charged our Tesla mostly at home during low demand hours and it's been way cheaper than gasoline. One thing though, EV's are NOT environmentally clean! To get the rare earth metals, they're using massive diesel-powered trucks to move tons and tons of earth. Just letting you know the realities of EVs and EV charging today if you're on the fence.

You don't need to compete for spots with Uber (Eats) drivers? When a blogger from Australia went to Cal. to experiance 'good' infrastructure, he had that problem and had to return his rental with low battery.

EV cars lithium batteries, like any other lithium batteries loses the ability to fully charge over time. That means eventually the EV owner will not be able to get a full "tank" meaning they are not getting what they paid for. The battery will have to be replaced $$$ knocking off any savings on gasoline.
@turbobird20002 ай бұрын
Having owned many gas cars myself, you are lucky to get 200k miles out of them without a major repair…. A Tesla will make 200k on a battery and more ….many have reached 400k and some have recently hit 1 million miles.
@gradywilson92132 ай бұрын
@@turbobird2000 They must have hit 1 million miles somewhere with great charging station support. In the U.S. that still lacking greatly. I wonder how many tire (tyre) replacements since they generally do not last much more than 10K to 15K, because of the weight of the vehicle.

Sorry, but you are misleading people if you say that EVs do NOT benefit the environment. 94% of their power is still coming from good, old fashioned fossil fueled power plants. And, the environmental impact in manufacturing them is tremendous.

Why would they link the charging stations in series? Maybe they do, but that sounds idiotic. Also, it's another easily resolvable issue.
@drewthompson74572 ай бұрын
Say a charging station had a 1 Mwatt supply. 4 cars could charge at 250 Kwatts, but 10 cars would get only 100 Kwatts. When I built my house, the utility asked why I was putting in such a large supply. it's 50 Kwatts.
@joemulkerins52502 ай бұрын
@@drewthompson7457 @drewthompson7457 Okay? That didn't answer my question but thanks for sharing. I' asking why they would wire the chargers in series, and not parallel, especially since they are so expensive. Wiring in series means that if one suffers with a problem the rest do as well. Also, cool. A 50KW charger sounds nice. Can I ask how much you paid for a 50KW? Thanks.

I like Elon Musk's approach, it is a common sense one in the overall picture: going at a steady pace, but seemingly in order. He has shown to get predictibly were he is going. I believe, despite Elon's effort, that there should be more order BUT with flexibility in the EV's hardware and software, more standardization. But Bye-den never backup Elon in good faith, he just did it occasionally just because Elon was a step ahead of the Chinese competition. Bye-den always favored in his heart more the Chinese competition than the national brands or any other Western brand for that matter, many would believe. I think batteries should be swappable, and that there should be a standard for portable batteries as well. My humble opinion.

@HRHolm-bi6zu I don't need to refute anything. I just need to say that I drive an EV and on the few occasions that I need to use a public charger I have no problem finding them or charging at them. The criticisms are just noise.
