Electric vehicles have been made for the last 150 years. They are not new. Its just that no one for the longest time was dumb enough to waste money on them. They actually were fully created before gas cars existed yet no one wanted to use them because of how dangerous they are.

Seeing as electric cars have been made sense 1860s and the batteries and motors that are in all electric vehicles was originally built in 1963 and they have had no real evolution to their advancements and they have not gotten cheaper in fact they have gotten more expensive they are in reality never going down in price in fact they will sky rocket until they are fully banned again. Here is a reality check. Electric vehicles are not legally classified as cars and trucks they are classified as novelties like a go cart or a golf cart or a dune buggy or a Zamboni.

What's new is not being able to take out the battery pack, and install a freshly charged battery pack and 10 minutes later you are back on the road. That's how EV's worked in the 1920's in America. America had 10 Electric car manufacturers. And the batteries were in the trunk of under the hood. You didn't sit on them the batteries. You'd pull up to your friendly EV battery exchange station, and be back on your way in minutes. No different than what you do with a cordless drill.

Battery technology hasn't changed much at all in a 125 years. The electric motors we use today are no different than the ones Tesla invented in the 1880's. But Tesla just didn't invent electric motors, he perfected them. And with the exception of a solid state voltage regulator, things like alternators haven't changed since Tesla's day. We are not getting the best available technology for cars. Period. It's being held back from the public. Like so many things are these days. Peace.

EVs are a scam. If mankind wants to progress, we need to get rid of greed by passive money. Being a shareholder doing nothing should become something socially unacceptable. This form of business is a form of cannibalism. This leads to profit maximizing at the cost of a good product. Besides people who have sufficient means and the luxury of living life to the max have it easy to tell others what to do. Cars in general, if EVs or regular combustion engine cars are all equally bad for the environment, they facilitate the mobility of human destructiveness, so the environment can't hardly be the reason to buy an EV. So the most viable excuse to buy any specific car is an economic reason, so why buy that car. And EVs are NOT the smartest choice, because the battery technology is far from perfect and will never be perfected to the level of what we expect of durability, because of the passive money makers who are entitled lazy f*s that keep cannibalizing the very business they invested in, because what if everyone in the world has an everlasting product, you won't be able to sell more and therefore the entitled stakeholder will not have a source of income anymore. So the very same people that tell you to buy an EV, tell you this because they are limited to only make an income of leaching with their shares in EV company's and other tech companies, besides other shortcomings these people have, such as a moral or a consciousness and empathy, they are the main cause of the problems in the world. So the best they can do is tell you to buy their crappy product. Also fyi the electric car was the first well working and fast alternative of a self-propelled personal vehicle. But back then they forsaw the battery issue and the combustion engine won the race. And unfortunately that will stick around for a while, despite of the effectiveness of an Electric motor. The power source and energy density of the container is the challenge.

So it added over 5 more hours to the one way trip from Ohio to Florida. It took him over 20 hours to get to his destination in Florida. When a regular car could have pulled over twice to refuel 10 minutes each and made the entire trip on 3 tanks of fuel in 15 hours or less. That's a big difference. The insanely stupid part is that CO2 is GREAT for the environment, it cannot cause significant warming (the maximum effect CO2 could have had since the beginning of the industrial revolution is 0.4 degrees of warming, to get another 0.4 degrees of CO2 driven warming levels would need to reach 650ppm. The greatest effect CO2 has had has been in doubling 3rd world crop yields over the last 50 years (1st world yields have quadrupled thanks the added benefit of fertilizers and better seed weed and pest controls that are not available to 3rd world farmers). The climate is controlled by the Sun which is why the planet has gone through multiple warm periods and cold periods when the CO2 levels did not change. The long term correlation between temperature and CO2 is because the oceans dump CO2 into the atmosphere as they warm and absorb it when they cool. Over the last 60 million years no level of CO2 (up to 2000ppm) has ever caused warming or prevented the planet from cooling. It is mostly thanks to the recent rise in CO2 that the planet is able to feed 8 billion people when it could not feed 4 billion people 50 years ago when there was an average of 1 million famine deaths per year. CO2 is the Greenest gas on the planet, below 150ppm there would not be any 'green' at all and eventually no other life either. The planet's ability to support biomass is proportional to the level of CO2 in the atmosphere.
@jamielpatterson2576
@jamielpatterson2576 Ай бұрын
@@davebrown6552 Those who scream about the CO2 being too high, don't mention the fact that plants need a certain level to exist. CO2 levels can't be too high or too low, or the plants can't survive. Plus, if all those screaming about the high levels of CO2 actually knew what they were talking about, they'd be screaming for harvested forests to be replanted and would be screaming to have a ban placed on burning jungles to clear the land for planting. In essence, the more green that grows, the lower the CO2 levels.

@ziggyhogan7560 I would expect the battery has to be removed once an ev arrives to the wrecking yard, certainly cannot crush them.. Same goes for ice vehicles, fuel/oil/refrigerant/fluids... Salabe parts are picked off then in the crusher then later go through a shredder? I've heard plastic recycling doesn't really happen, so any of that goes to landfill? If your Toyota doesn't become unsafe due to rust and you take good care of it (transmission fluid/filter/engine oil, timing belt, etc), there's no reason to believe it won't make it past 300k miles, most them are known to be capable of this. I had 260k on my 2000 Buick and going strong until it caught fire and burned down due to a fuel leak under the hood. I really miss that car, it was getting awfully rusty underneath, though.

Every time an EV catches fire on the road, that road has to be closed while firefighters fight the fire. It can take hours to put out an EV fire, even if the firefighters are on scene within minutes. This will often mean major streets or freeways are closed for hours on end. By contrast, most ICE vehicle fires are relatively easy to extinguish, and if the firefighters can get there quickly, they can catch it before it gets really big. Any road closure won't be an all-day affair as with the EVs. I am still waiting for that moment when an EV fire like the one in South Korea recently happens in a parking lot full of EVs. Every one of them has hundreds of cells, any of which could ignite at any time if there is a defect in a very thin and fragile membrane inside. It was damage to this membrane that caused the fires of the Galaxy Note phones some years ago (Note 5?), and it was caused by Samsung using a case that was very slightly too small for the battery. Just this little bit of pressure on the soft battery cell pouches caused the membrane to rupture when exposed to normal phone use. Any one of these hundreds of cells in any one of these cars could cause a short circuit, which of course causes a little spark. But this spark is inside the electrolyte, and that is highly flammable! You can see why they burn so easily. And worse, when these cells get hot, the lelectrolyte off-gasses, putting out large amounts of flammable gas under high pressure. The battery is in the bottom of the car, so the blowtorch like jets of flame eject downward out of the bottom of the car, hitting the parking lot surface, where they spread out in each direction... towards the other cars. If the next car over is an EV, that fire from the burning EV is shooting right under the battery of the non-burning EV, which then begins to burn as well. And so it goes, until the conflagration runs out of EVs to incinerate. If it takes firefighters hours to control one EV fire, they do not stand a chance against a bunch of EV fires in the same lot. The smoke is so toxic that they will probably have to evacuate the downwind area. The footage will be spectacular as the news helicopters fly around and capture it all live. If that happens, it will be like the Three Mile Island for EVs.

Guy here hit a tree branch and it busted the battery so he went to the dealer and it cost more to replace the battery then to buy a new car, I think they are doing this so they can say the number of ev's sold is up, The battery was $62,000 vs a new car for $58,000. And you forgot tires cost more and you replace them more often so all that rubber left on the road and in the grass and eventually in the water when it rains, The down side for ev's being better for the planet is building up fast for the short time they have been on the road, Same with the new big trucks they will be burning through tires like crazy with the rules allowing them to carry more so they can keep up with normal trucks, Also one company said if they replace the fleet with EV's they will need the same power from the grid as a small city and that means every place they stop to charge needs to be set up for that massive power drain on each city, Then we have places with power out for days or weeks so these trucks will be stuck because you can't just drive in and refill it with another truck, EV's should be like golf cart's small with low miles so smaller battery and used in the city to do grocery trips and school runs or back and forth to work, $10,000 max and easy change battery pack for $1000 every 2 or 3 years is what's needed. Something small would be a great ev for most if they were built good and were $10k but they suck and cost to much. It's like me selling you a 10k gold chain for more than the price of a 24k gold chain, Almost like they don't want us buying these things also with the mpg and resale value of some cat's today you save money by not buying an EV

@@nyxline yes, of all cars on the road BEVs are between 1 and 2 %, but if we look at new sales of cars BEVs are approaching 10% each month, which doesn't include PHEVs and HEVs that combined make the EV figure higher for cars, leaving ICE with just 81.7% of new car sales as of the month of June this year (probably less than that by now). of course if you look at all vehicles vans, buses and trucks are next, so % of EVs from those segments will bring that figure down lower still. so although growth is slow it's still slowly eroding away at ICE market share, so your figure of 99.999% is not correct. why panic tho? this is a transition and will take a while to switch. @@WilliamPeterson-lk4kz EV's cannot be fixed in the field like ICE can. EV's have limited range and long recharge times. They are also susceptible to electronic failures on many fronts. Hummers were good with a gas engine but worked better if they used diesel. EV's stateside for military should be doable but never replace an ICE vehicle entirely. What happens when a cop is in pursuit of a mass shooter and their BATTERY dies? With ICE, someone can bring you some fuel or you can carry extra with you. I for one do not want silent cop cars. That would create a dangerous situation. Especially if you could not hear one coming along and a little kid walk out into the street. Especially when cops LOVE to speed needlessly. Of course, there is the EMP issue. NOTHING is truly EMP proof. Diesels can still work after an EMP. And what about when batteries expire? Cost to the taxpayers would be enormous. And those batteries will never last as long as civilian ones due to their use and abuse by cops. Battery replacement costs about as much as the value of the vehicle so no one will buy a 2nd hand one. I want cop cars LOUD so I can hear them in case I need some help. Cops do far too much espionage as it is. No need to make them silent killers.... Only the rich and connected will have this available to them. This was the way it was back before the 1950s. If you travelled you went by train and then at you're destination you stayed with family for whatever time you were there for. In many countries in Europe this is still the case. What people will do here with our massive distances to access anything is a big question.

There's another reason not to own an EV. They are not owner repairable. A competent home mechanic can address most common issues with ICE vehicles that don't require major facilities or tools. Not so with EVs. You need expensive diagnostic equipment (often exclusive to dealers) to even find out what is wrong. If you touch the wrong thing on an ICE vehicle, it's rarely a problem. Touch the wrong thing on an EV and, with around 500v on tap, you will be very dead.

EVs have WAY LESS MOVING PARTS! They're way easier to maintain and after our servicing bill, they're also way cheaper to service. Down to the batteries, so far they're doing very well. That's because we're looking after them. For that they can last very long, even as long as 20 years unless you're stupid enough to use fast chargers "24/7". I'm still pro ICEs. The good thing about myself being total scepticism on EV is that they are way better than I've thought. Range is no longer a worry for EVs as long as I charge at home and commute around town. If you can't afford the maintenance, you can't afford the car. BEVs are not that expensive to repair compared to modern ICE vehicles with similar tech. Most of the ridiculous quotes that have been reported are from either mechanics who are unfamiliar with the vehicle or are trying to price gouge an unsuspecting and unknowledgeable owner. "Minor" accidents are not so minor anymore for a lot of vehicles. ANY vehicle, including an ICE vehicle, that has the latest driver assist features is going to cost a ton of money to repair. My once had an Audi that needed the bumper removed to replace the starter motor. To take the bumper off, put it back on, and recalibrate the parking sensors cost an additional $1000. Just labor for the bumper was half the total $2k bill. My neighbor's Audi had a "minor" front collision. It looked like all it needed was bending back the slight dent in a fender and replacing the bumper because of a break/bend in the composite material. Initially a small crack in the headlamp wasn't noticed. The dealership quoted him $48k for the repair. He took it to an independent autobody shop and got it done for $20k. Why even $20k for a "minor fender bender"? Because in addition to the parking sensors, there was a radar module, and a bunch of other expensive modules/sensors in the bumper that had to be replaced and/or calibrated/recalibrated. Oh, and the kicker...the LED headlamp alone was $7500. ONE headlamp. Yeah, tech is not cheap. --- As for insurance, it again depends on the tech in the vehicle. Even ICE vehicles with lots of tech will have high insurance premiums. Most Tesla owners that I know of get their insurance from Tesla...which is often no more than a regular ICE vehicle. For that matter, my Mercedes EQS has the same premium as my Mercedes S-Class. Both of them basically have the same tech. So, again, it depends on the tech. --- Oh, but if you don't have an accident, then BEVs are way cheaper to own/operate. The biggest savings they give is TIME. Simply unplug, drive, come home and plug back in and the next day the car is fully fueled (charged) and ready to go another day. Not having to stop at gas stations to fuel up saves a ton of time.

Relatively minor collisions where the car can still be driven normally are now seem to be written off more frequently not just on electric vehicles but on almost any modern car with modern safety equipment (like air bags and air bag sensors). -Is this because of concerns over possible future lawsuits if the air bags don't work properly? I have seen cars with scraped sides or minor rear damage drive directly to the repair shop without driving concerns (good alignment, all features working, no air bag replacement required because they never went off, and all doors opening and closing, etc.) Yet insurance looks at them & they are still frequently classified as totaled. So electric vehicles may be even worse in this respect, but lots of vehicles end up classified as totaled these days when they could have been repaired.

The local Chevy dealer will not accept used EV cars in trade. Can’t do anything with them. I’m sure he’s not alone. And many fire depts will not approach them when they light up unless people are in danger. BUT, it’s been claimed the combustion is so immediate and fierce that even one occupant getting out safely is in question. I have no idea if that’s true. I admit that.

I have an old ICE car ,which I can maintain easily myself, nothing fancy but was a popular model at the time so parts are still available. No stress ,No monthly payments , No parking worries, No excessive insurance premiums, I can sleep at night not worrying if the garage will catch on fire overnight while the car is charging, tyres last twice as long and are much cheaper to buy and the list goes on . All this means I have more time for myself because I don't have to do overtime at work just to pay off the car .

Resale value is a huge problem. Used EV buyers are like someone who prefers used cell phones. EV owners will tell you it's like driving a huge cell phone, but skip over that's is the same when you need to sell one. You're buying a huge used cell phone, outdated and unwonted. If the maker starts selling the same car you have but with a much better battery, you're stuck. Most dealers refuse to take EVs on trade because of the fire risk, or will offer you next to nothing then will take them to auction.

one reason is they had to buy alot of specialized equipment and training to service only a few vehicles, they are gonna soak those owners for years trying to justify the costs of start-up. Ford found their aluminum body panels cost about the same to make because the aluminum scrap was easy and cheap to recycle so there is little waste in manufacturing the panels and absorbing the cost difference between the alum and the steel.

I have been a radio control hobbyist since before I was a teenager. Quite a few years. Thing you learn early on is: Rechargeable batteries don't last forever. Every cycle of discharge/recharge lowers their lifespan. A new battery for a model airplane? $6-30 max. NOT $30,000!!!!

Why aren't used parts (from wrecking yards) being used? Also, most batteries allow for individual cell replacement, and used cells are available from eBay. It sounds like something is badly broken in the used parts (including battery cells) supply line.

@@Leaves-Fall-Gracefully it's only something new until it isn't. Diesel mechanics go through the same thing - learning how engines having no spark plugs work, what goes wrong, how to fix them, etc. However, I agree with you that battery repair is NOT for the DIY mechanic. This is a LOT like repairing air bag systems - VERY dangerous, unless you are super careful to take all of the safety precautions.

If some of the cells fail replacing them will only be a temporary fix. Inevitably other cells will fail and you will be back to the beginning,just with a huge bill for removing and replacing the battery.
@SteveRichfield
@SteveRichfield Ай бұрын
@@paulmasterson386 As cells age, their Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) increases. However, cells with a little higher ESR then age faster, to further increase their ESR over other cells. Inexpensive ESR meters easily identify these weaker cells, so they can all be replaced with strong used cells. Some people scrap used batteries, measuring the ESRs of every cell, so you can purchase cells with ESRs that match your remaining cells, so everything dies at the same time. This one action might buy you another 20K or 30K miles. Nothing is permanent, but this repair buys a lot for its cost.
