I absolutely love her voice. However. She's completely missed the melancholy and sad reflective tone of the song.The Eagles nailed it. Maybe if she'd lived long enough to develop, things might have been different. She always had a bluesy feel to her interpretations... if she'd been able to develop that might've been left behind. The Eagles got it right. She didn't.

I am a Japanese fan. I can't forget the day I first heard her sing. I knew there were good singers in the world, but no one captured my heart as much as she did. I especially love her songs "Tennessee Waltz" and "Danny Boy". However, by the time I knew her, she had already passed away and gone to heaven...

Amy Redford - Robert Redford's daughter - wanted to make a movie. I'm not certain of this, but I think that Hugh and Barbara Cassidy stood in the way. I'd love to see an Eva Cassidy movie (I've seen the documentaries) but it would not fly without dubbing her voice. No singer in the world can ever come close to her majestic talent. I don't believe in a sentient God; however, Eva was angelic.

I listened three times, and now, Eva owns this song in my mind!!! And do they get much better than Lenny Williams being AI transposed onto this live, 1995, Eva recording from Pearl's Restaurant in Annapolis, MD, playing a 2024 Fender Rhodes Electric Piano/B3 Hammond? I don't think so. Eva's and Lenny's performances, though separated by nearly thirty years, connect perfectly as if they were playing together when it was recorded, but yet, at the same time, both giving this masterpiece a hint of Ray Charles vibe.

One of my favorites. However, She's made a mess of this song. The Blues thing doesen't work. The song is country and about reflection and melancholy. Blues doesen't belong here. I love her but she simply didn't get this song. The Eagles nailed it.
@dereks1264Ай бұрын
@@peterobbo7512 I respect your opinion and agree the Eagles made the definitive version but I disagree this version misses the mark. Cassidy never did a straightforward cover of any song. I find this version has an almost gospel feel to it with some bluesy aspects. I hear the "introspection and melancholy" to which you allude but I don't think it needs to be "countrified" to get the point across, any more than her version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" needs to be treated as a showtune for her interpretation to work. Cassidy's genius was transcending the flavour of the original song and creating a personal vision of the work, allowing each listener to come to their own conclusion about how the song works for them. That's what makes music great. Thank you for your input.

I have been a fan of Eva's for 2 decades now. I first heard Eva sing Field's of Gold during Michelle Kwon's Olympic skate, I had fallen a sleep and woke up to this beautiful music and skate. I tried for years to find out who the singer was and song's name (I didn't recognize it). I was working and searching the net, when a conversation started on the best version of Some where over the Rainbow. I began to review the versions, all of which I knew except Eva Cassidy's. I began to play it and immediately I recognized her voice. After the song finished, I told my staff I had to run an errand. I went straight to the Barnes and Noble and bought her Songbird CD. To my absolute delight - Fields of Gold was the first song. I then read Eva had passed nearly 10 years before, I was crushed....what a talent taken from us. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHzMkKp-rK6ggpI
