There will never be another Eva Cassidy or show her wonderful range. A true original and cannot be compared to any other singer. You know who it is at the first note. Gone much too soon at age 33 in 1996 from melanoma cancer. Her music will live on forever.

This is from the greatest vocal performance in a single evening ever, known as Live at Blues Alley (or, perhaps more accurately, Nightbird). And IMO, Eva is the most complete singer who ever lived. By far. Who else do you know who recorded world-class vocals in every genre? It's insane that the same woman who sang Fields of Gold and Autumn Leaves, also sang Cheek to Cheek and You've Changed, as well as Stay and Nightbird, and Chain of Fools and Ain't Doing Too Bad, and also Danny Boy and My Coat of Many Colors. I've never heard another singer with even half of Eva's colors and textures. What a gift, and what a loss.

@@wilburfinnigan2142 Lucy has a spectacular voice! For pure tonal quality, I put her right up there with Karen Carpenter at the top of Pure Voice Mountain, with Eva, Adele, Etta, Sarah, Barbara, Celine, Mariah, Whitney, and a few others right behind them. But that is my personal preference. Others will have different preferences. When we're talking about the greatest all-time voices, there are only a small number, and it's pointless to argue over whose voice was superior, but those are my takes. Now, when we move away from tonal quality and toward colors and textures and the ability to vary the emotional intensity at will, Eva has no peer. This is how she was able to sing so convincingly in every musical genre, and in that achievement, she stands alone in music history. What's even more nuts is that it appears she never really landed on a particular interpretation and stayed there, unchanging, with ANY song. There are multiple versions of many of her tunes, and they are ALL DIFFERENT! Whenever she opened her mouth, out came a masterpiece. That's impossible, of course, but it really does seem that way.

Oh Stew, Ron has thrown down the let’s make Stewart cry gauntlet. That was a beautiful reaction to the amazing Eva. Another gone too soon singer. With Karen and my request, Sandy Denny (with Fairport Convention) and Who Knows Where The Time Goes. This video will also tell her story so if you are not familiar with her, you can cry along with us. She was a Londoner so, a U.K. girl. She is credited with the genre of Folk/Rock. This is another gut wrencher. So be forewarned. Ron disagrees with me but I’ve seen the comments. I’ve seen people ask Tori to cover both Eva and Sandy. So I didn’t know either of them and now I do know a bit more because of Tori. I tend to think, it’s in her wheelhouse to do both of them justice. We also need to get on a Carpenters journey, too. Stew, I'm glad you got that one out quickly and thank you very much. A few things I mentioned in my email included that she passed away 10 months after that performance and she did not know at the time. Yet during the performance her emotion and her eyes and facial expressions seem to indicate otherwise. It just added to the impact of the performance. And you were right that many consider that to be one of the finest performances ever of that song. She gave respect to the original yet totally made it her own song and style. You will definitely be interested to know that there was a virtual duet mashup made of Angelina and Eva singing together! The song is Fields of Gold which was originally by Sting. But Eva Cassidy made that song famous in a bigger way. Angelina also did Fields of Gold when she was approximately 15 or so. A third party created the mashup of the two of them and I'd highly recommend that since you are following both artists now. By the way, I told you to have tissues ready for Eva! 😉. Wonderful suggestion Ron, I listen to 4 artists Angelina Jordan, Paolo Nutini, Nora Jones and Eva Cassidy who now teaches angels how to sing, I don't like to suggest to artists who to take as an example but, if I had to suggest an artist to Angelina I would say Eva, thanks again and thanks Stew for the wonderful reaction.

Thanks for that. I listen to the same artists alone not familiar with Paolo. I will check it out! I also love Haley Reinhart who is more of a jazz singer. And Lucy Thomas. You've got great taste!
