While Eva's fans long thought Eva was not aware of her cancer, her family's site tells us that Eva had had the same skin cancer about 2 years earlier. Eva was a brilliant young woman. She knew what she was up against. And her last performances were her parting gift to those who love her spirit and immense talent.

This is the live performance from Blues Alley. There will never be anyone like Eva Cassidy again and she was taken much too soon but her musical prowess will live forever. Thank you for sharing and commenting.

Eva Cassidy was based in Washington DC, a vocalist and guitarist, who sang blues, jazz, and folk. Unfortunately Eva passed away from melanoma In 1996 at the age of only 33, before she was even well-known to the population. It was only after her death that her work became known and she sold over 20 million albums since. This performance at the Blues Alley lounge in Washington took place approximately 10 to 11 months before she passed. She did not know at the time what her prognosis was, but watching her eyes and listening to the tone of her voice, it seemed as if she were looking to the beyond over the rainbow, and to me it was beautiful and haunting. Eva did one more performance at the Blues Alley several weeks before she died as she wanted to perform for her friends and family. She was using a walker and had to be helped onto a stool in order to perform. Again, she passed away just a short time after. Eva is a legend that everybody should know about as she had the voice of a true angel. RIP Eva.

Welcome to the world of Eva. I am a retired Marine, probably in your age group. This song - her version - gets me every time. Eva performed several acoustic songs. As I feel and hear this - her Over The Rainbow - she stands so high above every other person who has tried to cover the song by making it her journey. She takes us, her audience, on her journey as individual confidants. She goes to a place inside that I imagine not many are allowed to view. It took a few times of listening to discover this is a duet. After I got to the acceptance of how pure and heartfelt her singing is, I realized her guitar was her singing partner, singing warmly, in euphonious chorus with her. Her Guild and her touch on its strings are, indeed, her duet partner. No accompanist could have done the same. Nobody will ever be able to reach the depths of my soul such as Eva did with her journey Over The Rainbow.

I'm an old guy, and have heard this song maybe 500 times in my life, by various artists. But, I have heard Eva's version about 50 times now, and none other since. And, for the life of me, I cannot remember how all the others go, and I no longer care to hear them, ever again..This is the definitive way, Imho. Just a jaw-dropper!

I've been listening to Eva Marie sing this song since the late '90s, when I first discovered her. Back then, it was one of the most beautiful and affecting performances I'd ever heard, and it still is to this day. Talk about taking a timeless classic and absolutely making it yours! Love her guitar work, too. Keep up the good work, sir - I'm an Angelina Jordan fan and stopped by your channel to see who else you've been reacting lately; great choice with Eva Marie Cassidy.

This is the most exquisite thing that was ever recorded. I have always believed this song was about heaven, and I think Eva knew that when she was singing it. sadly it was only a few months later that she was taken. But I love to think that I will hear Eva singing this again when I enter the gates of Heaven. Thank you for doing this reaction.

"Urge For Going," a Joni MItchell song done by Tom Rush. It goes back a ways to his 1968 album, Tom Rush. The album also included "The Circle Game" but I really loved this song. Tom rearranged the song and made it his and don't tell Joni but I think his is the best recdition of this song. Maybe it's just me...From one old guy to another! Loved your response to Eva!
