She had a lot on her at a young age, she basically had no life because she was taking care of her siblings and was rushed to grow up very quickly and Jackie irritated me, she was very selfish

Yes! Jackie was still being a baby and got mad at Eva for wanting to live her life but no..

Eva’s controlling nature came from a reasonable, responsible place. It was never malicious. The brother in laws should’ve gotten the heat and honestly dumped by the end of the movie. The sisters were also very codependent and seemed to never be able to make a decision about their lives without her. She had a lot on her plate, and I’m glad she slowly learned to put herself first for once instead of constantly thinking of others.

It’s giving Terry in SoulFood vibes. They really made Terry the responsible one the villain too when all she was doing was taking care of the family. And in both movies the goal was gettin to that old bag money.

Growing up I hated Eva, but as an adult now I realized it was because I was Eva. I was the responsible one and hated it so I hated her so I didn’t have to hate myself. Now it’s my favorite movie and she’s my fav character

Michael was doing the most while just being a boyfriend to Bethany. It literally took the end of the movie to ask for her hand in marriage, but he was the main one trying to dissolve the Dandridge funds🙄

U know what always bothered me about this movie…the men did all this mess and never even gave Eva a real genuine apology. Like Eva was overbearing at times (but let’s be real the husbands were too concerned about their inheritance) but it did not justify the stunt they pulled and they all should have got left by their wives. It’s like they never were held accountable smh

I'm going to play devil's advocate here for one second. (This is long but if you're interested I think you should read this.) Tim and Daryl had some pretty legitimate reasons to hate Eva and to be so upset about their respective relationships with their WIVES. Tim is ready to have a baby, Kareenah isn't. That's a difficult rough patch for any married couple. But they can't even work through it and maybe get Kareenah to a point where she IS ready for a baby because Eva keeps getting in the way. She inserts herself in their private business and gives unsolicited advice. She gets inside Kareenah's head to the point where she's constantly psyching herself out about being intimate with Tim or even about so much as TALKING about having a baby. Kareenah isn't ready for a baby but isn't even opening up to the idea of it because of Eva's constant meddling. That would make any man extremely frustrated about their marriage and with their sister-in-law. Daryl just wants to be physical with his wife and not just with...you know... THAT kind of intimacy but all physical intimacy whether it's s*x or cuddling. He's even willing to open his mind to the stuff she finds interesting just to be closer with her (when we see him letting Jacqui read him a book and being okay with her doing it again later). Eva just invites herself into their home and actively interferes in their alone time or Jacqui just up and abandons him and their alone time the minute she thinks Eva needs her for something. He wants to be physically close with his wife without someone else getting in the way of that, plus he wants to be as important to his wife and she is to him. Is that really too much to ask? So of course he's frustrated too. Neither of them still had the right to do this horrible thing to Eva but at least they had good reasons to feel the way they did. And remember some things. This whole thing was MIKE'S idea. Yeah they were a part of it but he came up with it and pushed for it the hardest. He was also the ONLY person that was making a big deal of the stupid Dandridge Fund, Daryl and Tim were even telling him that he was being stupid about that and needed to let it go and stop talking about it. He wanted that Dandridge Fund dissolved so that he could get a taste of that money. HIS biggest complaint about him and Bethany's relationship is Bethany always hesitating to let him sleep over with her overnight. That's a legitimate thing to be frustrated over but not THAT much. Everyone is different and has different boundaries, especially women. They move at different paces for what they are comfortable with involving their man. But Mike has the gall to do all 3 of those things I mentioned when he isn't even married to Bethany. Coming up with this stupid plan and wanting to hurt Eva that badly would still be messed up even if they were married, wanting to get his hands on that money would still make him a selfish, greedy gold digger, he wouldn't deserve that money even if they were married, and him not getting to spend the night with her wouldn't even be a thing if he was married to her. Mike is a a selfish greedy jerk who doesn't give a damn about Eva's feelings even just a little bit, at least the other two were remorseful for what they did. He doesn't give a damn about his precious Bethany's feelings either because he won't commit to her but yet still wants SO much from her including to get his dirty little hands on her money. Deep down he may not even truly love her at all. So while Tim and Daryl were antagonists to me, Mike is the only true villain. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

It was really the inheritance part that bothered me. They acted like they were entitled to the money, when they didn’t struggle or raise them. They were really upset when the girls decided to give it to Eva. Like Eva didn’t raise them or deserve it. Like why are you so worried about money that has nothing to do with you. Are you only with your girl for a check?

These are the black romcoms we need to see again. They were light, funny and didn’t push struggle or stereotypes. @@beebeevids6851 I can understand that. But again at least Daryl isn't too bad. And his reasoning for feeling the way he does is fair too. For a time as a teen I modeled my whole personality on Eva. And it worked and helped me get by in a seriously patriachal society. It made me work hard and never took the 'you should only aim for marriage and work hard to keep your man' mentality that I saw around me. I never saw her as needing mendingor a man or any help. Heck she held her ISH down fo real. This is why MEDIA and ART matter. As teens our minds are impressionable and fragile. Lets show are teens positive role-models.

Thank you. It's about time somebody shined a light on what an angel she truly was. She had a lot of weight to carry and a lot on her plate since her parents died. She had to be thr strongest and the responsible one, raising those girls. She was their mother after that, and it was impossible for them to see her as anything else because they felt the still needed her. She sacrificed quite a lot for their survival as strong black women. Those dudes did her so dirty, and it was clear they mostly cared about their family's money than they did their own women. They lowkey faked their friend's death just to kick their big sis to the curb. That's sick and they're the real evil. Put some respect on Eva's name, please. She's so misunderstood. I say this because I feel for her on how she and her sisters struggled to stay surviving. I'm an older sibling myself and I was the parent in my house. Dads were nonexistent and mom worked and socialized. I know what it's like being dependable on a daily basis. And it's impossible not to be the strongest in the family because it's all you know how to do, which can sometimes affect relationships or attempts in having one

I loved this breakdown! I never even looked deeper into her character and her actions like that and it makes so much sense to me now that you’ve broke it down. I couldn't stand Mike AT ALL!! The other husbands were annoying as well, but his character was very sneaky and shady and very true to who he is in real life and what he did to Tisha Campbell. being so co-dependent is definitely not healthy at all and I think some people like others relying on them because they feel loved but it's not a healthy situation at all

I always thought it was fair to get the whole Dandridge fund/ inheritance. From 18 Eva worked to put her sisters in school. One was a doctor, one owned a hair salon, the other I forgot... but all those years of lost wages b:c she couldn't go to school. I thought she should get it. Most importantly I do y think the husbands had any business about that. IMO
