Someone asked me once, if I had to stay in a room with Regina George from Mean Girls or Courtney Shayne from Jawbreaker for a million dollars, who would it be? I said, Regina! Courtney scares me, she killed her friend and didn't flinch. At least Regina wouldn't be THAT crazy

Courtney I've always found interesting as a character because she's an actual remorseless psycho. Not just an average mean girl. She needed to be humbled fast or she most certainly would've become a serial killer in the future.

During that era in the 90's dark grunge was extremely popular with the youth so movies like Jawbreaker and Clueless purposefully styled characters in over the top, bold and colorful outfits to contradict the times.

Courtney definitely planned to kill Liz. Liz was loved and Courtney was feared. The way she destroyed Violet/Fern once she was becoming more popular than her and was condescending to Marcie. Love everyone’s outfits in the films.
@kidanygascot1410
@kidanygascot1410 2 күн бұрын
Of course Courtney wanted to kill Liz and the pranks that they played on Liz for her Birthday were the perfect excuse for her to execute the plan of getting rid of Liz. And let's not mention how even after Liz's death, Courtney was still willing to destroy her reputation at all costs by saying that she was raped. Courtney was EVIL, she was literally Satan in heels, which is kind of fitting not only for her character on this movie but also the line "Satan in heels" somehow is a nod to Rose McGowan's other character on the movie Devil On The Flesh.

Tailoring really does make a difference with clothing, I've had so many outfits that did not fit correctly or sat in my closet tailored and they've become staple pieces. I love how the bright bubbly fashion is a contrast to the plot 💞They just don't make good films like this anymore, everything is just a reboot now

I love how this movie is a dark comedy but the fashion and lighting of the movie is bright / vibrant. I wonder if that was done on purpose. For example, you know she’s evil but her outfits and style takes your attention away from her bad persona for a bit. Such as in real life when a serial killer is attractive or have a “great” personality, they get fans and support
@iconicallyiconic
@iconicallyiconic 2 ай бұрын
This is absolutely correct! Make a villain beautiful/handsome AND well dressed like Blair Waldorf, Regina etc. and they have gain a massive fan base. Don’t even get me started on the women who supported and formed obsessions with Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and Richard Ramirez.

Her having the signature color purple make so much sense as to why she gave Fern the name Vylette especially when you said she views that color as power and mystery, Fern was a mystery to people because she popped and no one knows she Fern. Courtney should've channeled her energy into something that actually benefitted her but she was so e vil she couldn't help but view other women as competition that she needed to take down

Another interesting viewpoints of this movie You never see Courtney’s parents ( so who knows if they were always around ) You’ll meet Marcia’s dad once and he told her “I saw an episode of Oprah about kids being followers” and he is scared to think that is her. Therefore Marcia’s dad probably knows or see through Courtney . But Marcia didn’t listen to her dad . Proud of Julie for getting the hell out of that friendship ! If you see her room compared to Courtney and her friend that was killed. It’s smaller. She probably didn’t grow up with money compared to her friends. Like Fran, which explain why they grew up together. But because she is attractive, she got into the crowd.
@iconicallyiconic
@iconicallyiconic 2 ай бұрын
This was something I meant to put in the video, you see all of the girls parents except for Courtney and how Marcia’s dad speaks about how sweet she was before becoming friends with Courtney and becoming a follower. I’m glad Julie listened to her intuition and got away from Courtney because if they got away with that, who knows what other crimes she would’ve committed and used blackmail against Julie and Marcie to help cover it up.
@faboul467
@faboul467 2 ай бұрын
@@iconicallyiconic 100 agree! I also have a theory why Marcy follows Courtney. Low self esteem of course but since Marcy has a single father. He comes off as less “masculine “ and Marcy mother is not found. First time, I thought maybe he was gay. Whereas Courtney she has masculine and feminine energy which Marcy craves. Courtney is a parent figure or maybe big sister . Country teachers marcy how to dress, act, get guys attention things a mother / sister can teach their daughter / sister. And Courtney disciplines marcy when needed. Things a father would do. And since marcy isn’t getting that at home, she finds it it Courtney.
@iconicallyiconic
@iconicallyiconic 2 ай бұрын
@@faboul467 This is such a good analysis! when a girl doesn’t have a relationship with her mother she looks for it in other women. A lot of times the friendship is toxic because there is so much codependency and wanting to be loved by that feminine figure. It explains why she couldn’t break away from Courtney whereas Julie could.

Two things: 1. I always felt like the ending proved everyone was terrible, seeing how Julie and Marcy helped Courtney cover up Liz's death but pinned everything on her with no implication that they shared the blame. 2. I think "Jawbreakers" is underrated because it doesn't have a message to say like "Heathers" and "Mean Girls" as well as the fact that it has a weird tone, jumping between zany (in sound effects and dialogue) and dark.
