It’s always so heartbreaking to me when Fire season starts. In my 65 years it seems that the Terrain and weather to change so drastically. My family used to travel from San Diego to Greenwich Connecticut taking different routes every year from the time I was three years old until I left home at 15 in my parents truck and camper. As I watch you visit places that I’ve been through in my lifetime the difference in the way the countryside looks the low level of water and now the constant smoke and fires during the summer makes my heart so sad. 😢✌🏽

I’m in Utah and the winds are relentless. Even the power company has warned us there may be some power outages due to wind and how dry our state is. Carolyn don’t ever apologize for having an opinion or stating your reality. It does concern me the future of VanLife as cities are banning it and here in the west the mega drought making it so dangerous due to fires. Keep you and Sadie safe. 😊✌🏼😎👍🏼🙏🏼

Carolyn, it was a deeply moving video. Thank you for putting yourself out there time and time again. You are appreciated. I'm scared as well. You are not alone. I feel the same way you do about the times ahead in the not so distant future. I don't live in fear. But the uncertainty ahead makes my head spin. So I try to focus on the things that give me the greatest pleasure moment to moment, day to day. Big hug!💕

Hey Caroline, I've been in my car for about a month now and doing great. First 3 weeks was rather stressful until I got my jackery. Having that puts my mind at much more ease now. I still have a few things I need to do to make this car perfect for stealth car camping but it's making progress. I unfortunately decided a car was no place for a cat to live and as much as it broke my heart and it did, I gave him to a no kill shelter to rehome him. Because he was part maine coone he found a home really quickly which makes me sad and happy at the same time.

I have not yet lost all hope. We are learning a lot about how to live lightly on the planet, and as the knowledge grows and is applied, those areas will improve. There are places in the Sahara beginning to become green, as the people reclaim old ways of tending the land. We are learning how to put carbon back into our soils, which benefits the planet once we begin doing it on a large scale. We are learning that small ecosystems can affect their local weather, capturing moisture in ways that factory farming can not. If enough of us get our priorities straight, we may yet catch things before the tipping point.

Carolyn , I am not new to your blogs. I followed you a couple of years ago and then got busy and just came back to your posts. I enjoy your reports. We are Canadians and full timed RV ing for 16 years and spent winters in the southern US Arizona, California and had a membership with Preferred in Pahrump. We really enjoyed Preferred which is the only member owned Park. We have given up the RV lifestyle . I could really identify with some of the places you visited. Americans can really take advantage of the year round RVing and settle in a permanent place when they no longer wish to travel around. Enjoy your freedom.

Carolyn, I live in NM. It's a lot different than I imagined. So dry. It is so hard to wrap your head around what is happening to the weather etc. Please don't let it get to you. I freaked out when the fire got so close here. I'm not a normally "freaked out" type. It makes me wonder about myself. Who the heck am I? Why couldn't my mind and spirit have been big enough to have made better things happen. It's crazy. I always thought things would be ok because I was part of a global consciousness that would collectively keep our environment pristine and beautiful. Looks like I was wrong. What to do.

I hate the fires. I hate all the smoke. It's tragic how we are destroying our world. I believe it's too late myself. And I believe for the most part Nomads conserve a great deal on electric and water usage. So we make up for the fuel our vehicles use. It's not like we're out there constantly driving somewhere or commuting back and forth from our home to our job and supporting a big house and all the electricity to keep it heated or cooled. Sadie's cute trying to catch the bug in your front window. 😄 You two take care out there with the fires. ❤👍🏻❤

Nice tour of Cochiti Lake campground. I may hop up there soon. I share your concern about the paradox of living in these times and trying to leave a small carbon footprint. Thanks for the reference to Rachel Maddow’s book, I have an audible credit that I’ll spend on it. We have a new fire very close to Albuquerque, just west of where we had the NM meet up in Tiejeras. Luckily, we have had good rainfall this week. Be well and travel safely.

It weighs on us all. The question I’m asking myself is how do we band together to make positive changes and influence our economy to move from consuming and production to service and conservancy. I haven’t found the answer yet. I know this lifestyle has a smaller carbon footprint from living in a McMansion and commuting but we need to do more as a society. Maybe tackling zoning laws to allow small homes in our towns and cities would help.

I hope you are still getting comments from this video! It almost made me cry as I lost my cabin in that fire and when you said May 1 I knew that some of that smoke was from my cabin as we think May 1st was about the time the fire reached my cabin.! It was my heaven on earth in the pines and aspen over 7 thousand feet elevation. The Federal Forestry started the fire that got out of control! The local people begged them not to start the control burn because it was dry and windy. But thank the good Lord answered prayers when the Federal government amended it was their fault and compensate me for everything I lost! Thanks for sharing! Hoping to rebuild this summer!

I agree, Carolyn, I am 68 and I don't think I will get to live out my expected natural life span - and sadly, mainly, because of civil unrest. A lot of very conservative people out there are actually looking forward to end-of-times because they think they will be the Saved, so they don't need to worry about chaos and climate and other traumatic happenings - it's all part of the prophecies. Very, very scary (and I have always liked to think of myself as a realistic optimist...) BUT in the meantime, keep those videos coming please...

Just tell it like it is, Carolyn. Made me think of John Prine’s song Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Any More for some reason. Sometimes we need someone to poke a needle into our asinine bubble headed thinking. Love you

We were there just after the fires in June, waiting in Texas watching the news for the fire to pass. Nice place. Will definitely go back again . Didn't hear any gun fire.

😆 "5 seconds per mile.". Going through Cathedral Grove in Betty Beastie, when the GPS came back on, it said highest speed was 386 km per hour.....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I only hike in areas where I know they target practice real early before they arrive (in Summer I don't go because they may camp overnight) main reason is because I'm afraid my dogs will run up to them and there may be that one guy with a screw loose who takes advantage of the situation to shoot a dog and use the excuse self defense when my dogs have never bit anyone. And I'll carry an M-1911 pistol when hiking in those areas.

lol You really wear your Alaskan tee often. I wear mine as often as I can too. Got a short sleeve and long sleeve, so I can wear them all year. 😁
