I just wanted to say that your honesty in your songs is very uplifting. Which is ironic And When I heard the lyrics to the start of this song I thought “oh no man don’t tell her” or “oh man don’t tell them” them just instinctually. Maybe not cause I was a bad person but because the world seemed to go around much easier when no one knew the truth of how I really felt about something. Or how I thought they felt about me. And then I thought man.... this dude just bore his soul to the world with the first 30 seconds to this song and for the first time in the world I felt maybe that was possible for me. Feeling nuances from your other song “little floating lights” of staying out of the darkness. But honestly just the fact that there was another person in the world that felt all those feelings in the particular similar ways, things suddenly don’t feel so empty and alone knowing someone else has felt similarly. So thank you for your music. Hopefully one day I can be just as honest to myself and reach out and touch someone with my music.

There seems to be quite a few people, in this comments section, missing the point of this song. There is redemption, in this song. There is proof of not being forsaken. There is a life's trajectory that was changed dramatically. He says, "the only thing holding back the Great Hereafter, is bad primers, with good timing." This attempt failed, because of a one in tens or hundreds of a million chance. The primer in the shell failed, and a life was spared. A bad decision was avoided. Things changed.

Well said brother
@jaredjared13 жыл бұрын
yo, the song didnt end with saying, im happy it failed. it ended with "im gonna load my shot gun." i dont know where you get redemption from this. the fact that the bullet failed is even more grievous. but whatevs, but also he talks about the first breath on this chasm, which means it wasnt his last so he probably is dead. so dk, could go either way i guess.
@benjaminlucas84273 жыл бұрын
@@jaredjared1 Chorus repeating, even after the 'redemption' verse, is standard writing trope, you sell the hook one last time. For a song like this, spinning a completely different chorus at the end of the song would break storytelling and undermine the power of the last verse. Regarding the third verse, it's: "I could tell you, but you can't imagine, that first breath on the edge of death's chasm. You aint cried like that since you come out your mother. The only thing holding back the great hear-after, Is bad primers, with good timing." - That first breath after you pulled the trigger & it failed, crying like a newborn baby, cause you're alive, & realizing that a 0.0003% chance is the only reason you're still here. Those kind of odds make you think about things.

I wanna say something about this song, as someone who has suffered depression and a breakdown. This is a very accurate depiction of anguish, pain the is unrelenting and pervasive. Its true ppl who feel this lie, because other's words or pity dont help. The crescendo of the song is true the words display the absence of hope, he doesnt want to do it - its a desperate attempt to escape to something different. yet notice he ruminates on the idea of loading the shotgun... BUT! At the end of the song, he hasnt done it yet. He might not feel hope, but up untill the last moment the song ends with hope that someone CAN enter the story and stop him going through with it. You may feel like there is no hope of a reprieve from anguish, but the singer leaves the possibility open for someone to come into his story to rescue him, my hope is that if your feeling like this you leave the end open as well.

At 11:45, "The only thing holding back the great hereafter... is bad primers with good timing." For anyone who doesn't know, a primer is what sets off the charge in a cartridge/shotgun shell.... The shell was a dud. So, even though the song is dark, to me this line seems to sound like he avoided going through with it... it brings hope back into it. But just after that, at 12:04, I think the guitar is intended to sound like a shotgun racking and firing (and in fact he replaces the word "shotgun" with the whole effect). So maybe the hope isn't there after all? Great instrumentation and an amazing voice though. No matter where you find yourself, please don't ever go through with suicide; there is always hope!
