Mr Hercules who is first? Ali is dope for his heart but he destroyed himself doing it. Tyson fought cab drivers and lost to every major competitor he had(Holyfield, Lewis, Douglas) and went the distance with people he should have knocked out. Holyfield is definitely number 1 or two. I agree nonetheless. Id put Lewis, Ali and then Holyfield. Then Id put Tyson. Tyson is like top 5.

Mercer was definitely a handful when he was in shape. His best three fights were Tommy Morrison, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis. Most of the other times Ray Mercer did not train hard and was not focused. Still had a world-class chin though. Elite. Could be lazy and was once accused of trying to bribe Jesse Ferguson to throw the fight mid-fight because he was losing.

I think mid 90's Tyson would have been in big trouble against Ray Mercer. We saw what Mercer did to Tommy Morrison. Mercer is yet another big fight that Tyson sidestepped. Holyfield by comparison fought everyone - Riddick Bowe, a 90's Lewis, George Foreman etc. All fights that Tyson avoided.

If Mike McCallum had been a heavyweight, he'd have beat Holyfield. Evander was great and all, but did NOT like taking body shots, and had a thin waist. Most of Holyfield's opponents didn't go to the body enough. Riddick Bowe, in their first fight, did and he wore Holyfield down.

+clip11 it was mostly the accumulation of punches than he granted him those KD/KO. But at that level all boxers hit hard. There are harder hitters and someone who hit less hard. But everybody can hurt seriously. Exceptions are Foreman, Lyle, Shavers and then Tyson, Mercer and so on... All these had really heavy hands. Best chins in HW are (imho) Mercer, Foreman, Ali, Holmes... well you know the others...

This was a cool fight - that was sort of a 'hidden gem'. Was viewed as 'Holyfield on the comeback trail' fight, but was actually really excellent. Sort of a 'cult classic' fight...:) Two tough guys giving it there all, with high drama. Holyfield was sort of the 'king' of the tough guy-type fighters. He loved fighting those guys who would engage him, like Mercer & Tyson. This was a GREAT era of HWs! Holyfield was the man in the 90's. WTF are you talking about you idiot? Evander was the SAME SIZE his entire heavyweight career. His body shape and size NEVER changed. Even as a rookie cruiserweight he was a huge muscled up adonis. Even now 10+ years in to retirement and in his 50's he still looks exactly the same. you want to see a dirty, head butting, elbow throwing scumbag in the right, wathc ANY Mike Tyson fight. Tyson was the dirtiest fighter of all time. Holyfield was NEVER accused on intentional head butts by a single ref his entire career.

I loved Holyfield growing up. He was a family favorite for us. But I've gotta admit that when I watch his fights now my opinion is a little different. He was kind of a dirty fighter. He would often lead with his head and then bring it up so that the back of his head would hit the eye or the nose of his opponents. Also, he would hit late, both after the bell and at the ref's breaks. You can see he did here when Mercer takes the knee for the knockdown. That's what lost him the gold medal and even though that was a different story you can see why it was called. He was a great boxer, puncher, fighter and champion without a doubt. I don't ever question his heart or work ethic but the man did bend the rules when he could...

Old school fighters were trained to keep their chin and head low and in their opponents chest. When both guys are doing it they clash heads a lot. Its not dirty, it the way they old school fighters were trained for over a century. I have seen every fight of Evanders career and I never once saw him internally head butt anyone. No ref ever accused him of internal head butts or even warned him of intentional head butts. There is a big difference being fighting an aggressive hard nosed physical style and being a dirty fighter. You want to see a dirty fighter who Intentionally head butts people in every single fight? Watch a Mike Tyson fight.

Well, Holyfield went to full 12 rounds against someone like Alex Stewart... that guy lasted only few secs against Tyson. Then again, you cant explain how Mercer struggled and lost to Jessie Ferguson and 40+ years old Holmes. Ferguson also beat Douglas before Douglas beat Tyson. I guess every boxer came into a fight with different preparation and different physical condition. Also, style makes fight.

Ironically it was Tyson who started the headbutt accusations againt Evander, after Evander had gone through 90% of his career and NEVER been accused of head butting.
