Amy wrote a lot of the Fallen and Pre-Fallen Evanescence material about her inner conflicts and abuse and gaslighting she was suffering in a horribly abusive relationship she was in (when asked, she later confirmed that Ben Moody was the abuser. Ben has also abused other women since including his ex-wife who divorced him in 2022 because of that). I think this is very much about that helpless state of being abused. I remember her saying in an old interview that she felt trapped, trying justify things to herself, trying to fix the other person while suffering herself, trying to get help but not knowing how

Before more debates continue over the meaning of this song, remember that the lyrics can mean one thing to the writer and many things to many different perspectives. personally, it's obvious to me that it's about witnessing someone you loved being a murderer or some kind of violent evil. but everyone absorbs the song differently, and you can relate it to anything that you feel. I think this is one of the best songs by this band, such a shame its only a demo

@@ginociambotti9256Yes I can elaborate. So according to the website that I found one of her little sister's died as a baby, her other sister was in an abusive relationship. Everyone has their debates but no matter what anyone says I'll always believe it's about cheating and she's using a metaphor of murder or death. Especially with the "I saw her bleed, you heard me breathe and I froze inside myself, I must be dreaming" acting as if she caught him in the act. And of course the chorus, the well known words of the cheater "it's not what it seems, not not what you think". I feel people take songs to literal and need to think more on the metaphorical side of things, especially with music.

I think this song is about witnessing a murder. "We all live, we all die; that does not begin to justify you." The best part about creating anything is the dance of perception. To be able to reach into the level of the unknown, yet make it relatable. This masterpiece (which all of the demos are) does this perfectly. Beautiful, haunting, arrangement...Love Ben's guitar and vocals. No other music touches me like Evanescence. Origin was the brilliant beginning.

I love this song... when my friend sings the chorus she actually sounds almost exactly like Amy Lee. She's really good and I wish I could freaking sing like that!!!
@yogawarriorgirl7 жыл бұрын
Surface analysis says she witnessed a murder, but what if she witnessed abuse? What if she's a victim of gaslighting? I.e., she saw someone being abused, and she was convinced it was all okay, even though her conscience railed against it. Or, she discovered someone's cutting scars. Or witnessed a suicide. This song has some serious flexibility. It could be any of these things.
@JJJV2925 жыл бұрын
If one goes even deeper into emotion, with abstract thoughtforms to accompany, the blood can be viewed metaphorically and the need to tell someone of their witness could be a friend or/and stranger of the pain behind the 'blood'....i love how interpretations are endless when it concerns an individual and a song. So personal for each.

I actually always assumed it was about a person who had been abused herself (either physically or sexually) but then dissociated and told herself it just wasn't real/happened to somebody else. It's actually kind of interesting to see how many people view it as something completely different.

I don't know how this came of idea of the song. But I think it's relating to her sister Bonnie who died at age 3 from an identified illness when Amy was a kid. She took her sister's death to heart and hard. It devastate Amy Lee and was very hard for Amy to deal with and handle.
@laurenkuelker46124 жыл бұрын
I think the song you are referring to is Hello (by Amy Lee), but I do also think that Bleed could have been the earlier version of Hello (before it got scrapped for whatever reason) or had the same themes as Hello. I think so because the chorus could be referring to denial (which is part of the grieving process and knowing that it was Amy's first time dealing with the concept of death after Bonnie passed away). Also, some artists use the same themes over and over again in their songs. For example, Melanie Martinez talks about fake people in her songs: Dollhouse, Pacify Her, Drama Club, Lunchbox Friends Firedrill, and Copycat. Which they're all different from each other, but the same theme is present throughout those songs.

The thing I love about the whole Evanescence band is that their music is just so.... Real. Unlike those Lady Gaga songs. These are about life, death, and things inbetween!

scrolled for 5 min n only saw 1 other comment feeling like its about abuse...I guess thats a good thing to know what its like to live when part of u has died from being abused. u can very easily bleed when being beat w.o dieing
@maggieirwin15638 жыл бұрын
also "what u hide so carelessly" (marks) and "its not what its not what u think" applies to hiding/denying abuse im kinda shocked not many ppl see abuse being the subject as plausible

A while ago I made a home made album with old, heavy Evanescence songs. The list looked something like this: Eternal Lies Anything for you Bleed (i must be dreaming) Forever gone forever you So close (The last day) Away from me Where will you go Before the dawn Field of innocence Even in death Surrender Understanding Farther away demo Imaginary origin Whisper 2002 Bring me to life demo Haunted demo It was all a lie (lies remix) What other songs do you think I should include?

For me, this relates to my battle with eating disorders. This illness, whilst displaying physical changes, is all effectively in my mind. It is trying to kill me, and I suppose I'm too weak to battle it again. I must die at some point but my eating disorder is accelerating that. I know it is all in my head but does that make it any less real? Hardly.

I'm eating too much Its bcuz we're in pain Its a distraction ... Things should change, ppl around, environment .. the real cause of pain must be discovered 😞

I love this song so much, I cry every time I listen to this, and I had a dream last night and this song was in it. I was in a dark forest and it was raining. I cut my heart out and crushed it and I bled to death and then woke up, I was crying a lot in the dream, I have a broken heart, it sucks xD

Daniel G if I have a bad dream I either 1. Man up and go back to sleep. 2. Go play video games or watch TV for an hour. 3. Listen to music and fall asleep to whatever it is. 4. Watch a couple KZbin videos. Easily takes my mind off of the dream.

The only thing I can come up with that fits all the aspects of the lyrical story is this: A child witnesses her father abusing her pregnant mother, and causing her to miscarry. That's why it says "we all live/die, that does not justify..." Those two lines are key to understanding what is actually going on, and fittingly, are very difficult to explain with any of the other possible scenarios the other lyrics bring to mind. If not for these two lines I would be inclined to say it's about one family member, (either the mother or another sibling) catching their husband/dad molesting their daughter/sister, and wrestling with the fear of what might happen if they tell someone.

Maybe this song is about suicide, or self harming. Finding someone who commit suicide and these are her thoughts 'no, i must be dream' like its a nightmare she cant wake up from

The song makes me think of a hero in a story that witnessed a very bloody betrayal at the hands of somebody they least expected, killing or hurting the hero's romantic interest maybe? That's the feel I get every time I listen.
