This was immensely popular just around the time my husband died in 2003. I felt lost and dead inside, and the song seemed to sum it up. Seventeen years later, all is well, and I'm no longer lost.

This was one of the songs I used to get me pumped before raids. After experiencing combat, I felt like there was a part inside of me that had never been acknowledge. “Wake me up”, wake up my fighter side. “Don’t let me die here.” It’s hard to describe but there’s a part inside that most people don’t know they have. A part inside me woke up. Normal life is boring compared to combat. If you want an affirmation of life, live through a firefight.

Quite an iconic pop song. A simple, but catchy three-chord ditty, floating on the nu-metal craze of that era. Combine that with easy lyrics that appeal to 'misunderstood' kids / teen angst and a hit record is born. That cringy 'rap' style breakdown still manages to put a big smile on my face. A fun, occasional listen. :)

My Girl!! I've got a couple favorite rock and roll hardest to or females: Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson, & Amy Lee!!! This woman is the bomb and is actually a classical pianist. Amy is like a modern-day Freddie Mercury because she's a classical pianist but rock and roll singer in a rock and roll band. Love her!! Her voice isn't as good as Freddie Mercury then she doesn't have the vibrato ( most do not & none that I can think of) and technique that he had but she still damn good. Stevie Nicks has an awesome chest vibrato that is unique to her and I've never heard anybody else do that before. Stevie Nicks is my number one and Amy Lee is my second favorite rock and roll female star.
