I used to be a DJ on a local hard rock station years back, and we had a thing where our fans could take over the station for thirty minutes, and somehow a girl who had to be 14 somehow got onto the show, and while listening to her set, this was the first thing she played. Back in my 20s I knew a girl who could sing and sound extraordinarily close to Amy Lee. We would spend months together covering evanescence at the time it was just me on guitar and her singing. Whenever I listen to Evanescence again it always makes me think of her, and wonder how she's doing. I don't remember and I don't know why we ever lost touch. Those were dark times for me after all.

The original Fallen came out right around when I was dealing with some of the worst trauma I've dealt with. I was just a kid. I didn't have the words or even conceptual understanding to voice what I needed then. But I had this album. The pain and desperation were exactly what I needed to hear in that time of my life. Twenty years later, I've finally been able to start unpacking that old trauma, and I couldn't be more thankful to be able to return to this beautiful, painful album while I do so.
