Long time fan, and just to blow your mind, I'm a 63 year old man fan. These lyrics stand alone as quality poetry, then you heighten it with the music, then you enhance it with Amy's incredibly expressive singing, and then the very well done video just puts a cherry on it. I can't think of a Evanescence song I don't like, and quite a few I love. If you do it right, angst does not go away with your teens, you do not stop feeling.

Amy Lee warned us about false advertising, unrealistic beauty standards, the pressures of being a woman in the music industry, the chronic epidemic of loneliness and despair, the struggle of not fitting in, and the dangers of blindly following those in power without questioning their motives, yet shows the power of what we can be when we be ourselves and seek the truth. This video predicted so much of the societal ills we have today in the Instagram, TikTok, and social media generation. Everybody’s Fool was so ahead of its time and we were fools not to listen.

Oh how this song is WAY more relevant in 2019 than it was in 2003. That's the kind of thing that happens when artists who keep it real and are true to themselves write truly inspirational music, the value only grows over time. I don't feel like it's "WAY more relevant". Maybe you just had a different experience in 2003 than some of us. I was a teenage girl then and popstars did our self-esteem no favours. The difference now is there is even more 'reality' entertainment and it's gotten just as fake as showbiz was back then. It's an added layer of betrayal because 'reality' and KZbin were supposed to be 'real', but fakery was just as rampant back then.

The driving instrumentals and the song's atmospheric quality create a sense of urgency and intensity that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The lyrics are a poignant reminder of the dangers of superficiality and the importance of being genuine in a world full of facades. I think it’s over medicating people today. One of the main side effects to a lot of prescription meds is worsening depression/suicide…my big sister was not suicidal until she was prescribed meds like a guinea pig. She took her life after 3 years of prescription meds. They messed with her brain chemicals and made her so depressed. I saw how much happier and in control of herself she was before being drugged. 😢❤️🩹

this song is my life. All my friends think that I'm some perfect little girl who doesn't have any feelings and they just pour all of their pain onto me, not caring that I have no one to pour my pain onto. It really hurts, and I seriously think they don't know that I have feelings...

I feel your pain. At school my friends pour pain all over me. They think I'm perfect but I'm not. A kid once said "not everyone is perfect like you" just because I told someone to try harder. Just use a stress ball or something if you're feeling down or mad. :) you aren't alone.

+Zoie Gal none of mine noticed when i was anorexic. none of them noticed me cutting my legs. none of them noticed my depression. none of them noticed when i tried to kill myself by overdosing on ibuprofen. they just pour their problems on me and expect me to fix them. some people just need to open their eyes to the people around them. they dont notice ME (I found out after that ibuprofen cant kill you)

This is more than 14 years old, more like 20. I associate this video with self harming and self hating. This came out when I was a teenager and struggling as teens do. Now two decades later I can appreciate how Amy let herself appear in this, so vulnerable and so normal. I can listen to this song again. It's an adult now. I haven't self-harmed in years.

Also, it's her least favorite video she's made to date. Please don't encourage everyone that being sexual is a bad thing. It's fine if you are and it's fine if you aren't. I respect Amy, but I respect plenty of other women who use sexual expression too

It’s been proven that broad music taste and intelligence is positively correlated. Also yea, how can it not be. Pop music lacks depth cause it’s easy to listen to. Music like this has meaning and truth. And we all know it’s hard for us humans to listen to truths. This is why people who are more open minded, therefore more wise, gravitate towards this.

I was about to say that in the last 5-10 years the music industry has realized that it works better with the consumers if you take performers who actually are authentic at a core and let them do, while wrapping them in a shell of marketing, instead of building them up as a target-demographic-optimized product "fake to the core". ... Except K-Pop. K-Popper are Everybody's fool To The MAX to this very day. ...But then I realized you are right, I am just thinking about depth, not width. Looking at Instagram and in fact most of KZbin, today you have so much manufactured authenticity *everywhere*, it definitely is more relevant today.

But I can never get myself to announce these cringy things bc wtf is even the point? I'm just not boastful. & Get high up there then... Bc magically, & conveniently, ppl love to hate. Hate to love & multiply that. & Bc now I'm the elder 😖😥😭, I guess I hafta give em a pass... But let's see what y'all think about yourselfs later on. Bc "when I was your age"... Perfect by nature Icons of self indulgence Just what we all need More lies about a world that Never was and never will be Have you no shame don't you see me You know you've got everybody fooled Look here she comes now Bow down and stare in wonder Oh how we love you No flaws when you're pretending But now I know she Never was and never will be You don't know how you've betrayed me And somehow you've got everybody fooled Without the mask where will you hide Can't find yourself lost in your lie I know the truth now I know who you are And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be You don’t know how you betrayed me And somehow you’ve got everybody fooled It never was and never will be You’re not real and you can’t see me Somehow now you’re everybody’s fool

Everything about this song...the lyrics ...the depiction...it hits really different when you're a woman in the superficial industry of beauty and fashion... Also if you're dealing with seeking a sense of belonging or having felt as if you've never truly fitted in with any crowd at work or school. This song reaches the depths of your soul if you can relate to it that is...

The video beautifully focuses on ads, but this idea is also so relevant now for the social media/Instagram/influencer culture

I used to listen to this when I was a child... I'm an adult now and I still absolutely love it. It's the kind of song you love forever.
