Thanks much Dave. Very helpful. I struggled to push in the screw while installing mudflap. Mine got broken as well. I took the spare one which did trouble as well and the old mechanics trick at 15:55 worked like a charm 🙂. Little lubrication and got the work done.

Nice video. So many how-to's gloss over the installation process and don't show the problems that can/will occur. I'm 73 years old and believe me when I say that getting down on the ground, lining up holes and pushing little pins in was not as easy as the vendor produced installation video would lead you to believe. BTW - I have a Model 3 about 6 months old and, while it has the protruding bolt like your Model Y, it is in the middle of a relatively deep circular depression in the wheel well.

As always, very helpful video. I checked my 2021 Model Y mud flaps and do not include the extra plastic area to utilize the upper nut attachment point. Otherwise they were the same. After 8K miles and for only $30 for the set (Amazon) they have worked great.

Thanks for the review of Abstract Ocean's parts and packaging and shipping. I now have a new attitude towards AO. If you haven't noticed yet you will need a Phillips screwdriver to remove those center plugs.

Great video. I, like you I suspect, am disappointed that the parts weren't all there and there were no instructions. And of course, as you said, the AO video has been updated. Given that these mudflaps are on the higher end, price-wise, I would expect more. That said, I can see the advantage of extra support for the rear flaps. Haven't taken delivery on my Model Y, yet, but mudflaps are at the top of the add-ons list.

How does this effect efficiency?

Although not necessary, removing the wheels/tires makes this job so much easier.

Will you get corrosion with the steel nut on the aluminum threaded bolt?
@katacegratrace57802 жыл бұрын
I would definitely reach out to the vendor and complain about how the package arrived. Since you have video proof.

What’s the tool called which you didn’t need to help loosened the bolt on the bottom of the rear bumper?
@evdave5282 жыл бұрын
I used a 12mm open end wrench for the bolt and a tool supplied by the mid flap people that was a split spade tool

Do you think that adding mud flaps would effect drag enough to lessen range by any noticeable amount?
@evdave5282 жыл бұрын
I have not seen any degradation that measurable after adding the mudflaps, but I will tell you it sure makes a big deal not getting that crud all over the side of the car

Great job Dave. But, this is the worst packaging I’ve ever seen with loose hardware. No instructions ! Think I would have returned it. Shame on AO.

I have similar hard plastic mud flaps on my Model Y. I have had them snap off and break. They do not hold up to snow and slush that was frozen at the end of the driveway. I even repaired one of them using metal washers melted in to the plastic with a soldering iron. I had them replaced once by the manufacturer and they did not hold up either. They assured me that they are looking at having more flexible, rubber like composite that will have more give instead of the hard plastic. The point of failure was the plastic screws/bolts. They broke off and I lost a couple of mud flaps and have no idea where they ended up. The one that fell off in my driveway was the one that I repaired.

What is the purpose of the split washer?
@smartroadtrip2 жыл бұрын
The split washer keeps pressure on the nut to keep it from loosening with vibration.

These are not the best mud flaps. The design will allow mud to accumulate in the flaps. A-Premium mud flaps are flat on the tire side of the flap so no mud accumulation (amazon $29).
@tokodave12 жыл бұрын
Alas, I went through 2 sets of RPM mud flaps in my first winter which have a similar design. I ordered the Tesla front mud flaps hoping they don’t accumulate snow like this design probably will.

Doesn't look like a very complete kit. I know there's better options on the market. Dave you should have contacted me, I would have given you a good set free from Hickory.
