EVE Lore - Why The Minmatar Republic Sucks

Hello all, back this time with a lore video, exploring the darker side of a faction I know a lot of people think are fairly morally sound - The Minmatar Republic. I'm hoping that this will give people not only a better insight into the lore, but also get people interested in the nuances that lurk just under the surfaces, because CCP put a lot of effort into making sure all the factions in EVE fit well outside the typical bland templates, and I really want people to at least be aware of it. So, next time you blow up someone from the Minmatar Millitia, at least you can say that maybe they deserved it.

Caldari honesty: Who made planet so suffocating, some risk it in the ice blanket? [Poem not efficient- execute form] In there own way really ties into just WHY anyone would be desperate enough to undergo the hideous process of becoming a capsuleer- not a Captain, remember- ships have crew members! You're like Elono Musk at home on Earth ii: Electric Boogaloo, a 'God'... then you get to Space and realise you're just a flea compared to the true Gods in Titans... accept you no longer have anything a human, your family... now dead centuries ago would consider 'thoughts' just download skills... to work to survive all that matters is beating The Dark Spreadsheet's monopoly on bringing life...into manufacture without profit. ... He folded the recording chip underneath his one unbitten finger nail, a flaw nobody noticed, walked into the boardroom while he still had legs... Script corrupt. It must be especially tough if you're Amarr... we're exactly is Heaven? "Where do I prey now I live in the heavens?" It just doesn't tie into gameplay at all. If you look at something like Battletech, you'll see that the timeline is absolutely critical because depending on the timeline, there are certain events and (re)discoveries which dramatically affect what you can equip a vehicle with for example. Learning how you can equip something in Battletech also educates you on the lore. The Eve game itself doesn't tell you much about the lore, you need to delve deep into books and wikis and trawl through lore posts on the main site. Shame because it's a cool setting.

Yup - It's a setting with enough depth and more importantly nuance to be able to make a character that believes _any_ side is in the right, and have it make logical sense. Jin IC believes Kuvakei was a good man with sound intentions until the destruction of his empire either drove him mad, or forced the leaderless hivemind of the Sansha to make a vengeful facsimile. Not that he'd ever tell you that. Still, I'd love the 'events' we have to tie into the more subtle conflicts of EVEs lore, such as Thukker vs Angels, or delving into the complexities behind the SoE (weird how a charity is run by the sister of the leader of the Serpentis managed to get expertise in drug manufacture, eh?).

I think that the lore needs to play a larger role in the game. Like I dont want CCP to drive a narative that all players must subscribe to. But I think that It could help a large group of players that dont want to join large null or low blocks but still want to "take a side" and fight for a cause they believe.

I always struggled to explain having abandoned the minmatar struggle on my main. Now I actually don't feel bad at all, and hearing this kinda helps explain why my character has nearly +10 standings from the Blood Raiders and Guitarists. I partially agree. While having some nuance is good, especially in a setting that's supposed to be complex and realistic, EVE's lore sometimes feels like it's grey for the sake of being grey, or to avoid alienating some parts of the playerbase who want to play as villains without feeling too guilty about it. This is especially noticeable with the Minmatar, where it seems like the writers added all those flaws to create a sort of quasi-equivalency between them and the Amarr, which isn't their best move.

Great video. Thanks for the effort! The Minmatar remind me of the Klingons in Star Trek. Barbaric, violent and generally uncooperative (even amongst themselves). The only thing that's a bit strange is how such a barbaric and backwards society would ever manage to invent space flight (even on the quality level of the Minmatar rust buckets that they call ships). You'd expect such a backwards society to simply murder each other over silly shit like tattoos long before they invented any technology more advanced then a stick with a rock tied to the end. On the other hand, obviously the same argument can also be brought up for (or more precisely, against) the Amarr - how would a bunch of religious morons that believe in magic and sky gods ever manage to get past their version of the middle ages. Our society here on Earth has only very slowly begun to become in any way "civilized" (as in respecting universal rights of the individual, the fact that cooperation is a more sound strategy then competition, reason and science over religion and mysticism etc.) and you can still today see a strong tendency for religious people to be violent, bigoted, backwards and resistent to any kind of reason (reason/science certainly being one of the basic requirements to construct planetary-scale space projects). You can't even start thinking about interstellar travel when half the morons on your planet are still fighting over whether their imaginary sky-friend is called Jesus, Allah or whatever else. But who knows... perhaps the Amarr (and Minmatar for that matter) were once properly civilized, reason- and science-based civilizations and only lost their way and devolved into the religious/tribal/medieval cultures that they are today after the advent of science-based space flight... Or maybe it was just the good influence of the Jove..?

Nothing compares to what cruelty Amarr have done to Minmatar. Sure, Gallente have committed war crimes against Caldari, but Amarr are the worst here, they are evils. Caldari are not that bad but they are too strict, almost reminding me of North Korea. Minmatar have their own cultures, you can't judge their rituals. They do whatever they do in their own Empire and not against others like Amarr did. Minmatar have never committed war crimes (they just attacked CONCORD bureau only because they were acting useless like WW1 League of Nations). And criticising Minmatar rituals and then saying that they suck is pretty biased.
