MrMassivemeatlog And not a single (or not a lot of) real money was spent exept for subscriptions and the odd PLEX. The battle did not actually cost that much money. If every ship was financed through plex, it would have cost that. Obviously, that's not the case.

I started playing EVE because of this trailer. At the time I thought "friends you'll know for the rest of your life" was more than a little hyperbolic. But it's been 13 years, I still play, and I'm still friends with half the guys from my first corporation. There's really nothing else like it.

kind of the same with me... but... it may be just for now, but it feels like the game relies too much on that a player's progress depends on their friends/corp. In my case, since pretty much only one person have experience with the "Support" ships, (Logistics, EWAR & Interdiction) I mean, I feel like I need some practical experience with those ships, but since only one person have experience with those, and aren't always online...

This used to be the case but improvements in technology mean we now have games such as Albion Online. Sandbox games based on land are better than sandbox games in space because too much space is boring. Eve Online was the best available experience in its day though.

I met the leader of my corp because I was derping around in hisec mining in a punisher he was there mining as well and I locked on him but didn't do anything, i was such a noob back then I didn't even relaize other players could tell when you locked on them lol. He sent me a message; "I have a couple of questions, why did you lock on me and why the hell are you mining in a punisher?" And that's how it started. You might think this trailer is over the top and it is in some regards but the sandbox is real. God I miss playing this game sometimes.

I played a MUD (text-based multiplayer game) constantly between the ages of 12 to 18. When Everquest came out, I was so excited to have a similar experience but in 3D... then I actually played it. And other MMORPGs. Every one was a disappointment. In the MUD I played, players knew each other. Players made an impact on the world. I'm 35 now and I can still recall the names of my guildmates and lots of the equipment they wore and exploits we had together, along with the exploits of many others in the game. The MMOs? Nothing. Because there are multiple worlds, the best anyone can do is become a cookie-cutter clone of a thousand other players that look just like them. The benefit of having only 1 world is something more games should investigate. Strictly limited items, of which only 1 or 2 might exist in the whole world, and the ability for players to interact with the 'gods' of the realm and make lasting changes lifts the playing experience to a whole different level. If I had the time, I imagine I would love EVE.

I wasn't talking about the titan, I was talking about the second paragraph. The one universe and full pvp in eve actually enforces you to learn or quit. Mittani's article in tentohammer really nailed it and that is the reason that I play. Btw, when you make the same mistake twice you actually learned to recognize the situation. I really love this feature in the game. Btw, to be ambushed is to fly without a scout and when you do that you must be prepared to lose. It isn't a "mistake"

Although the events in this video would be unlikely to happen to most people, it demonstrates the most important point of EVE Online: sandbox gameplay. The game doesn't limit you to a path or tell you what to do. You make your own choices, find your own way of living, and experience whatever consequences result.

This is by far the best game I have ever played, Nothing can compare to the freedom, it's truly a second life, full of opportunity, fame and glory. No game has ever given me a true adrenelin rush, except for eve. My heart goes a million miles an hour and the adrenalin hit kicks in almost every time i'm warping in to a potential kill, It's not just your ship and isk at stake, it's your reputation and respect. If you have ever really wanted to get lost in a new world, this is it. great vid btw.

Let say this is you. Solo pvp kitchen sink fit. You try to scan down the barge in lowsec, but the gang fleet of pirates got that faction modules , so the barge instapops. You warp at 20 thinking you can get on that killmail, but you end up being tackled by a Stilleto pilot with no self respect. 4 tengus uncloak and you are sent to Jita 4-1 on a fresh clone. The EVE Butterfly effect.

The skill system has it's advantages. Properly planned, a newbie can participate in massive fleet warfare with less than 48 hours training. It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them. Sounds like a good balance to me. As for boredom, a lot of people don't try new things. They mine, they mission, then they get bored. Ever try exploring a wormhole? Scanning for complexes? Joining a 0.0 Alliance? Now THAT stuff is fun. :)

it always gives you the warp in, in the mission screen you click on the orange link to the system, set destination, undock, warp to it, jump through or stay in system whichever the case is, when you get to the proper system your desitination menu (right click) will say (warp to encounter)... you can't get it wrong. When you get there use your mission log to see your goal, kill npcs, pop a specific target for a drop, or just fly close enough then run and report. Dock and turn in mission.

I am (un)fortunately more dedicated to things in the real world that matter more than a video game. That being said, if you have not played it do give it a try. It's a beautiful game and very in-depth. I think CCP is a solid company with a very innovative business model. I wish more MMO companies were like them.

1:25 - 1:28 because helping the miner, by destroying the 'pirates' weakened the enemies which lead to 1:28.5 Makes more sense no to as why the war so suddenly, without provocation, began. I say 'pirates' because if the were real pirates then they would have been NPCs and that wouldn't have affected a PvP war.

Now, I run a corporation with people from Austria, Sweden, Russia, Australia, England, Canada and the United States. It is *fun*. My only regret is that I waited so long to start.

@wiltbloococo "over 6 billion" is still a correct statement and closely relates to the video. WP states 204 entries, but counting the number of countries is difficult, which still makes the video statement interesting (probably just a mistake!). What you are referring to seems to be ISO-3166 country codes, which as you mention also includes regions like the Falkland Islands, which is a disputed sovereignty. I wasn't trying to be pedantic on the first comment : ).

Nice video, gives glimps on what combat looks like, those were all in-game shots too. EVE Online = most rewarding MMO ever, the learning curve also filters out the impatient and annoying people out of the game, not all but most of them.

The butterfly effect happened a few days ago when a Titan missclicked and warped into a hostile fleet. The subsequent battle cost the CFC 2 more titans and involved about 3k people.

ElMagnfico: It's pretty reasonable. An assault frigate is a pretty decent ship to solo PVP with in 0.0. Not as great as a recon, HAC, interceptor or a SB, but fair enough. It's also possible for a long range artillery fit Wolf to kill or drive off two frigate sized ships, or at least have them come after it and thus stop tackling the miner. And it's not too far fetched to be invited to some alliance as a result. The funny part in this video are the "patrols" with dreads and titans at a gate. :)

By far the best video game trailer I have ever seen in my life. And that's a lot coming from someone named haloboy.I love halo the most out of any game, but this trailer makes me proud to be a member of Eve Online because unlike most trailers this one is 100% true to what happens in the game. Also I can send out 21-day trials so message me on here and ill email one to you(only 3 people a month).

A cloak and the ability to use it does help, but as you said, it is no grantee that you will not be killed. In fact using a cloak means pirates will be looking that much harder, as they rightfully assume that you may be flying with items of great value. And running into a competent HIC pilot can ruin any transports day/week/month, cloaked or not.

It's such a great trailer. This does happen. Often times it's the reverse. You are a lonely miner making an honest living and pirates attack. You are plucky and put up a decent defense but ultimately they destroy your ship. They later contact you and during the ensuing conversation invite you to join their band of misfits. The next decision is yours...

Its a game that takes a long time and also a lot of planning. Its a game that can feel boring at times but as soon as u get involved with pvp there is no other game that will give u as much of a rush as this. I am a pirate personally and I love doing it. U can do what u like though which is what makes this game so special. If ur a mature gamer i highly recommend this over WOW.

This game has a VERY deep learning curve! I have just begun to play and although it is very epic in scope, I will continue to play and pay, because I know this will be a satisfying experience with no end. A literary comparison of this game is as follows: it's as if Tolstoy's "War and Peace" had a baby with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged", with "Dune" Author Frank Herbert as a "lovable" care taker.

I'm new to EvE and I really need to say that it is the best MMO I've played so far. It's Economysystem is just wonderful, with a little bit of reallife knowledge about economy you can make TONS of isk within the first days/weeks. I think I'm just going to make a lot of isk whilst training some skills, so I can fit a badass PvP ship and then go to 0.0 to learn the PvP aspects of the game. (yes, I know, dont fly to 0.0 with a expensive ship and 0 knowledge of combat :D)

now they should bring back this old wolf model it looked so much better then the current one also the gun placements where so much cooler and since the "old" wolf was smaller then what we have now you can actually see the gunfire, now you can barely see it even when zoomed all in :(

A new player wont make a difference in a big battle, but nor will any single battleship. Note that the big ships can hardly kill anything without it being pinned(unable to warp). So it is those little tacklers that allow them to kill something. As with a hammer, the hand that guides it and the hand that holds what you are hitting. Besides damage isnt everything - (anti) support and logistic ships. P.s. A rifter is never gonna be primary in a fleet battle, so it gives you some time to enjoy it.

the fact it takes ages is also what makes it more "real". No legendary mercenary becomes a legendary mercenary within 1 week of PvE missions and corpse looting. The best thing about eve is how lifelike it is.

Rewatching this reminds me of the most chaotic situation I ever flew into. I was flying around Syndicate in my tengu, out of my depth and not realizing it. I stop to do a site, get tackled like a moron. Luckily, it is just a random gang, and they are taking forever to break my tank. Unluckily, I am configured for running and cloaking, so I can't kill all their tacklers. I'm sure I'm going to lose my most expensive ship like a complete idiot. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a bigger gang drops in on us, and starts shooting at the first gang. I get massively lucky and they happen to kill the last person tackling me first (actually, think I ended up with the finishing blow by chance if I remember right.) I warped the hell away to a safe spot, cloaked up, and hid like a tiny scared baby until I could slip out of the system. Still laugh when I think about the absurd luck. Pretty sure that the bigger gang wanted to kill me too, but luck gave me a break=)

I just lost my Hulk (which I'd had for ages) to another Matari assualt frigate ship, the Jaguar. The killer, fortunately, was still in the same belt when I came warping back in in my Wolf. A little pew pew and my armor-tanking Wolf ate his Jag for breakfast. I love my Wolf.

Eve is a thinking man's game. I'm not saying everyone who doesn't play Eve is stupid, just that it's very complex. It has a real economy, large-scale politics and wars, and generally feels like real life. Some people may think it's more like work than fun, for example when having to manually triangulate the position of a wormhole. But there are plenty of people (myself included) who find that kind of stuff "fun". To each their own MMO.

@McBlemmen no, if you go into lowsec (0.4 or lower safety space), there is a 99% chance you will get attacked by player pirates who will blow you up and take all of your stuff. If you find a group of players, you can go pirate. Most pirates camp gates in lowsec and kill anything that appears...But at the same time other pirates and people who get angry will go looking for them ;). In Nullsec, space is completely player corp owned, and thats more for alliance vs alliance fighting.

Funny commercial, reintroducing the MMO world to new(er) gamers who didn't experience the game genre emerging. Bit simplistic necessarily but showing some of the true strengths of the game: ie the ability to do almost anything you wish to (and some, but not all, of the consequences). This is why sandbox games truly rule.
