-No we don't need female space marines -The lore doesn't support it -if you demand we change the lore of our 35 year old game for your politics, this game isn't for you -you only care because space marines are the poster boys, you don't really give a flip about female representation. If you did, you'd be more focused on the all female Guard regiments, or the Sisters of Battle -where are the male sororitas? I'm waiting.... Removing your channel from search results, and blocking your channel as well. Zero tolerance on politicizing my hobbies. Go away.

Do you know why the Space Marines are the poster boy for Warhammer 40k? It's because they're a blank slates for players to create something unique from. If you really want female Space Marines, you need only build them. Just like all the people that want any other unique variation of Space Marine. The fact that there aren't female Space Marines in the lore is no more sexist than the fact there aren't any male Sisters of Silence. Would the Sisters of Silence be made better by having them suddenly be male? No. They'd be made far worse if they were forced to be just one more generic faction in a setting full of generic factions because nothing is allowed to be unique in fear of hurting the feelings of some 40-something year old man who identifies as an underage girl.

Okay so I wanna provide a neutral explanation for this. First the real reason, GW did have female space marine models at one point but they did not sell so they were drop and then reintroduced as the Sororitas. Now lorewise: Only 1% of 1% of a world's female population has been stated by the Emperor to be viable with geneseed implementation. But this would essentially overwrite the female and make her body look in line with her male counterparts which means there would be little to no difference between Male and Female aside from needing a custom catheter for her armor. Now there are issues further as we can lean of irl knowledge to explain further. Organ transplants between the sexes have a lower chance of being accepted by the body and even if they can do it the person has to take anti-rejection meds at a higher rate than other implanties. So let's scale this up to a female space marine, given the fact all geneseed is based on male physiology that means at best the subject will have to receive more in the way of medical resources to keep her functioning in contrast to her battle brothers. At worse she has a shorter lifespan than a conventional space marine due to the higher chance of inevitable rejection. Also no you can not use the necromunda ladies, pretty sure the Fists do not recruit from any clan that is genetically modified like the goliaths. So in short yes it is possible, but for the Imperium it's such a resouce sink it's better to send those same female candidates to the Sororitas which will have a higher success rating to get them into powered armor than trying to turn them into a space marine. From an irl standpoint female space marines render both the Sister of Battle and the newly returned Sisters of Silence redundant, this is coming from the dude that lore dived so hard I figured out multiple ways around it and made super soldier women.

You are right about the origin of Ultramarine pigment, but sadly for us romantics SoFlat Ultramarine Blue is a synthetic pigment Polysulfide of Sodium-Alumino-Silicate, and sadly for single-pigment enthusiasts, also contains titanium dioxide.

Yes, I wouldn’t have been able to afford crushed Lapis Lazuli… so it’s “synthetic” ultramarine and a little white… Sure, if you want to be dead straight, it’s not single pigment. But it’s not mixed with any other colour but white… something I would have had to do otherwise and later on did to work up some volume.

Exactly, I spoke to my wife about this too(as she likes Warhammer alot, aos/fantasy a bit more than 40k.) And she asked why? Why not enhance the females they already had, female Tau, adepta sororitas, inquisitors, astra militarum, etc. The astartes are supposed to be a brotherhood of ascetic crusaders, instead of just trying to overtake that, just uplift the female options you already do have!

@@363AJFTW363 while I could see a long lost necron queen stylistically looking feminine, I believe in lore all necrons were given the same style of necrodermus depending on task/hierarchy. Fantastic diorama, and a wonderfully thoughtful discussion. Something I'd love to see return to the 40k setting is a bit more of the obvious satire of earlier editions. The whole idea that there really is no hero or good guy in the grand aspect of the setting was one of the dystopian elements that really captivated me about 40k originally.

It had "female warrior" models which looked distinct from Space Marines of the era. It is far more likely those were prototype Sororitas models. The designer talking about it doesn't cite anything and it doesn't make sense that there was no demand for female armies/models given that Sororitas were given a full army in 2nd and an expanded model range in 3rd kinda indicating that there absolutely was a market for female models.

I think the biggest thing holding back female space marines right now is how long it has been a boys club. very early we got 2 female space marines and that was it, when GW was still trying things out in their infancy. now that it has been 40 years since those days, to have change this big would be very drastic and require incredible amount of retcons from those past 40 years of warhammer history to somehow now allow female space marines that didnt appear anywhere between the age of strife and lions awakening, which spans some 20 thousand years. so there will be the question of, "why was it not done before if it could have been done?" and I think that is the biggest problem standing in the way of female space marines. had it been done since day one, there would not be such a problem. genetically engineered super soldiers would likely end up just as unisex as fallouts super mutants, no matter if they were male or female. the only real thing they would have to produce is put an extra pair of bare female heads in the box.

I don't hate the idea of female space marines. There's some nice third party heads out there and I've seen some nice paintjobs, including this one. It doesn't look out of place. However, I do think keeping space marines a male only faction works within 40k. "Sister of Battle already exist" is a popular line, but that's to easy of an argument to make. The Imperium is a theological dictatorship. Any type of advancement is seen as heresy. IMO, this is another example of "Humanity are not the good guys" and it works quite well within 40k.

And, by the way, one of the main issues for GW to be more equalitarian is that not just the space marines are all males (that could be easily changed), but all the main characters: The Emperor and all the Primarchs. I always like this discussion because it really shows how different people approach an arbitrary "lore" vs representation subject. I personally don't think Female Space marines would add anything (on the moddeling side, a helmeted marine, regardless of sex would look the exact same and if you wanted to you could do what you did and just swap heads for unhelmeted marines), because to make them stand out they would have to look very feminine, which is probably not something easily explained in lore, even if they say there are new ways to create them i feel like any human would come out looking rather similar at the end of the process of becoming a space marine. It would be cool if there were some more cool female guard characters on front page art/box art and stuff. Anyways, sick diorama, you inspired me to kitbash my next squad of marines with battle sister heads!

I have a female space marine chapter, and I can tell you that sourcing heads of the right proportions is actually quite difficult. Proxies are nearly universally made for Sisters, which have **much** smaller heads. You can still pull it off with Sister heads, but it looks really off to me. I would be happy with just having an upgrade sprue they sell separately for my heroes and commanders, honestly.

There are no female Space Marines because there are no male Sisters of Battle, because there is no chaos eldar because there are no red-skinned ork. There are rules within the setting and those rules both make it believable and interesting. Some of those rules can be stretched (like the increased female represenation within the Guard for instance), but some of those rules are set in stones. One of those rules is that the Emperor was a man, and the Space Marines are his sons, all male. It wasnt and has never been an issue.

Uhhh i finally need to do this underpainting for the skin too. Just manage to get a brown base for most of my skin. But this green works fantastic. Oh and really a good step to do female Marines. I did the same for my 30k Imperial Fists, giving every helmet-less mini either a votaan-female-head or one of the female stormcasts. Back in the 80s i think, there were blisterpacks with three random marines, from which one were female. But the feedback from the retailers was, that the blister with female marines weren't sold as often and since GW back in the day hadn't the luxury to produce every mini, they simply skipped this one. So technically even from GW side there's no real blocker for Femarines and i really hope that they will do so with 10th edition. I mean it's just a headswap. And also the cadians got enough female heads in the newest kits to do complete female squads. The same for the new marines in 10th edition box set would be great :)

I agree with what you say earlier in the video about the established world and how they present it in stores being different. I know when I first got into warhammer Space Marines were these glorious holy warriors and good guys, almost how the imperial civilians are meant to see them in lore, rather then as deeply flawed, emotionally stunted and augmented child soilders fighting wars which have lasted longer then their multi century long lifespans. I think its because its slightly more difficult to sell grim dark then power fantasy, with humans against the horrible xeno and chaos mutant, so all the stuff we see in marketing, games and some of the books is almost done as imperial propaganda. Horus Heresy is probably the closest thing which markets itself as a real look at the settings reality outside of the recrutement posters and glos finishes. As for female space marines, I can see why GW has been hestitant, but really I think with the rise of primaris they could have made it so these new types of marine could be female, and its not like you'd see any changes with the models other then some new head options so it certainly wouldn't be the end of the world

I'll be honest. I'm almost tired of Space Marines getting all of the attention. They have gotten more releases than any other faction, they get all kinds of buffs and improvements to constantly push them to the upper levels of the tier lists in terms of gameplay, like come on, enough. I also think that adding female space marines would take away from the raw badassery that is the Adeptas Sororitas. Seriously, every one is so focused on making female space marines that they completely forget about the Sisters of Battle and how completely epic this all-women military force is. These women walk out onto the battleground in full power armor, bolters roaring just like any space marine.... but with NO augmentation. Think of how badass that is? They fight as hard, as skillfully and are just as dangerous and capable as space marines, but they also don't need all of those fancy augmentations to do it. They are badass enough to just put on the armor, grab the bolter and kill anything in their way, and in the stories where the Sisters and Marines interact, it's always shown that the Space Marines seem to see the Sisters as their peers. Even chapters that normally look at the common soldiers of the guard as beneath them hold the Sisters of Battle up as their equals. Not to mention they have some of the coolest freaking vehicles in the imperium too. I mean, a tank with a giant pipe organ on it that launches explosives from every pipe just by playing the organ? Come on. You cannot tell me that isn't freaking amazing. Adding female space marines just seems to me like it discards that level of pure epicness. It's far more impressive that the Sisters go into battle and fight with the same ferocity and iron will as Marines, but they can say "look at us. We can do the same thing you can but we don't need a bunch of extra guts jammed in us to do it." I hate how the Sisters of Battle seem to get the shaft in the 40k community so everyone can focus on the Space Marines. They are an awesome faction. I play a lot of skirmish games rather than full army games, and my favorite faction for them is my Sisters of Battle for a custom Order i made called the Order of the Cerulean Rose. We don't need female space marines, we NEED to give the Sisters of Battle their due! I hope to see you paint some of these epic ladies of war in the future. They always seem so neglected, and i feel like these calls for female Space Marines would just see the Sisters cast aside by the community more than they already are. They were still using the old metal models over 2 DECADES, long after every other faction had gone to full plastic for crying out loud! They were using Metal models from 1997-2019! Do you really, honestly think that if GW gives the poster boys even MORE additional stuff that anyone is going to bother with the Sisters besides their die hard fans? Space Marines are the face of the game. That "little girl" sees THEM first. And when she wants an army of girls and is too new to do converting miniatures yet, she'll have it right there and won't even need to look at the Sisters. Currently in the same situation, she'd go look at the Sisters, who desperately need some love from this community. That's how marketing is. Adding female Space Marines isn't about keeping it some boys club. It's about potentially destroying the army that is a girl's club completely. It's like when the Boy Scouts started accepting girls, the numbers of Girl Scouts began to decline. The Sisters already lack players. Adding Female Space Marines will just hurt the Sisters even more.

People are entirely entitled to their own headcanon and are of course free to build and paint their miniatures as they see fit, but please don't seriously make an assertion that there is anything equivocal to a need for "Female Space Marines". If the crux of the argument boils down to some appeal to the conflation of representation and symbolism, then any assertion that there's a void to be filled in the first place can only ever be proposed if the Sisters of Battle are intentionally disregarded as a long standing part of the lore. Space Marines are a combination of Warrior Monks and Child Soldiers, while Sisters of Battle are a combination of Warrior Nuns and Joan of Arc. As much as anyone would honestly want it, there is a sense of representative balance in that. (edit: spelling)

I mean, there are literally people out there who are asking for female space marines, so there's clearly a need and demand for them out there. Also, you miss the point being made about how marines are the literal face of the game. The first thing almost anyone who encounters the hobby for their first time is going to be is a space marine, and most of those folks aren't going to know about the lore or other factions within the setting. Having both the representation and symbolism that a female space marine would bring to that first moment encountering the game could and would bring in those who otherwise might be turned off of the glorious game and hobby experience that is Warhammer.
@Convincing_Reality

@@Huckleberry_SidI appreciate your taking the time to comment and my response is as follows: Firstly, people asking for or indeed demanding something is not evidence of any type of need. Otherwise if someone were to ask or demand that you give them half of your earnings for the next five months, you'd have to first accept they have an objective need for it before you delve into any other considerations. In actuality both of these scenarios are examples of wants and not needs. Further to which, people expressing an opinion of what they want does not imbue it with more validity than anyone else's opinion. Secondly, in terms of representation and symbolism, the fact that Space Marines are all too often made the sole face of the game is in and of itself the issue, not that they are canonically an all-Male faction. If Space Marines are to remain a focal point for 40k's advertisement, then the appropriate course of action is for the already canonically all-Female faction of the Sisters of Battle to be promoted in equal measure to them. I was hopeful that this would still currently be the case given what we were all shown when 9th edition was announced. By which I'm referring to the cinematic trailer featuring first the mixed-sex Imperial Guards, followed by the all-Female Sisters of Battle, who were then joined by the all-Male Space Marines. If GW had better maintained a balance of those factions in the limelight (which they showed they're more than capable of with the trailer) then things would organically and canonically be much more representative.

@@Convincing_Reality Okay, so you're going to play literalist with the word 'need' here and engage in an appeal to definition? And then engage in a strawman argument? First, we're talking about little plastic toys that are part of a luxury hobby. Of course there's no literal objective need for female space marines, just as there isn't a need for space marines or the rest of the game. The "need" in this sense is something born of people's desire to see something that they both greatly desire and feel is very important. And I see we're going to follow up with a good ol' shifting of the goal posts. Come now, we both know that the actual issue being discussed here isn't that Space Marines are the sole face of the game. While there is certainly merit to the argument that is an issue, that isn't the issue actually being discussed here. And really, Sisters of Battle aren't Space Marines. You even point that out yourself; they've got different themes going for them. There are people out there who want to make and play female Space Marines. Having Games Workshop make them an actual thing by simply including heads for women in the boxes would give people the option to do so. It would also normalize it within the game space, and people who decide to do such wouldn't face as much of a backlash. So keep rocking on with those logical fallacies. Thankfully... no one needs your permission to keep advocating that Games Workshop make the game and hobby space around 40k just that much more inclusive by asking to meet our need for lady Space Marines.
