I learned the hard way how devastating it is when someone breaks the sanctity of the queue. I was stood politely, the next in line for the self-service till at the supermarket, and an older woman blithely walks to the till I was about to make use of. I tutted to no avail, I took a breath sharply, audibly and I even cleared my throat with a muttered grumble. No response, no acknowledgement, no shame. As a former UK plumber. I can confirm that most houses these days are plumbed up in modern ways so mixers would be compatible. It is also because, for some strange reason. When you ask what type of tapes do you want on your bathroom sink. The sane people will ask for mixers all around. But the traditionalists will say they want Hot and Cold on the basins because it just looks right. Some people here are just stubborn and want the stink that you want a mixer on the most. To have 2 taps on the British way. Maybe it's seeing 1 tap in the middle reminds them of foreign bathrooms or public toilets. I could never get my head around it. 🤷

@@magnemoe1 it is due to them using boilers which is on the way out in the UK and water heaters on the rise. If you have water heaters the hot water line is potable water aka drinking water. The weirdest thing with the hot and cold taps is that for bathroom showers, they are far more commonly mixer taps than other water outlets but if it is hot and cold taps, they are almost always the opposite way round to all the other taps in the house, meaning the hot and cold taps are on different sides to every sink in the house.

Never noticed that, but just checked in my place, kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and bath hot is on the left, but the shower hot is on the right 😮

Here where I am (Adelaide, SA) if someone drops/breaks a glass everyone calls out "TAXI !!". It's never been explained, but I'm assuming it means they've probably had enough and should go home.

The first day of primary school in my home town located in the heart of Illinois, someone dropped their tray and the whole cafeteria began letting out a collective, "Ooooooooohhhhhhhh!" as if someone was being called to the Principal's office followed by a chuckle. Having not experienced this before I was a little late on the oohhh and did not begin until everyone else had stopped. As my lone voice rang out I was given looks by my nearby compatriots telling me I was taking things too far.

Over half of the video was tangent talk? Wicked!😅 Lorelei aces it yet again, AND she's now a foley artist! Excellent- double pay, at least! And a fleam reference? Cutting edge that.😉😄

At a wedding recently , it was pointed out to me by a Canadian friend that brits have the capacity to have a heated discussion (which happened to be about politics on this occasion) then finish it up with ‘It is what it is’, repeated by the countering party, then continue a conversation on trivial unserious matters

As a Kiwi, we have pretty similar views on queue jumping here, but when I lived in Hong Kong I learned how to both not be polite about it AND let it go. A well aimed look down and up with an uttered "rude" works better than tutting, but then you let it go. I have asked people before if they are confused about where the end of the line is (high level passive aggressive!) 10/10 highly recommend 😂 "Taxi", "ya can't park there mate", "right then, I'd better be off" and "how're ya doing" with the expected response of "not bad, and yourself" "that's good" 😂😂😂😂

Two exceptions 1. Tube - there are no queues, it's a mosh-pit 2. 'queuing' at the bar is totally owned by the staff. You piss them off, you go to the back no matter how hard you wave your 'place'

@@ayejayuu49 Just to clarify 'the Drain' is the Waterloo and City Line, a shuttle between Waterloo and Bank. Its a very strange line. If you go on to the platform you will see marks where each of the doors should open. If you are on the Waterloo platform between about 07:30 and 09:30 'city gents' (Bowler Hats and Umbrellas) queue at these marks at about 45 degree angle to the platform edge, I have seen this behaviour from 1972 until about 2000, not the whole time but on many occasions, that is when I was there. Not sure if it still happens, but can't think why it would have stopped. By the way I agree with your comment about bar queuing, except at theatre bars, note it is best to order before the show for the interval, if you can, these drinks are normally set up at a side table (or similar).

Cross contamination doesn't work that way. If contaminated water comes out the same faucet as non contaminated water, the faucet is now contaminated as well as all the water

That's why there are two taps?
@mayapilkey35776 күн бұрын
@violet7773 the hot water tank could be contaminated, if it's hooked up to the other pipes than all the taps will be contaminated

We do use the word queue, but mostly in computer contexts, like when a website can only process so many requests at once so you have to wait your turn. But in physical contexts, we’re in line.
@erraticonteuse4 ай бұрын
I've also learned that queue is used by American theme park enthusiasts to describe the environment in which you line up for a ride. Like the "queue" for Space Mountain is designed to look like a spaceport and get you hyped up to pretend you're about to get on a real spaceship.
