Fine line, though. I regret not allowing my children to make artsy messes and be creative when they were younger. I should've let them color, paint, play with clay, etc to their heart's content. Even toddlers can clean, so I should've let them make messes (within reason, of course!) and then taught them how to clean it up. I taught them to clean up clutter messes, such as clothes, toys, books, etc., but I stifled their artistic sides for fear of a mess. They are older now and I'm seeing the consequences of my decision. Sigh.

Nikki, I began teaching my children homemaking and life skills at the age of three.....they were taught how to make their bed at age three, it might not have looked like I wanted it to look, but in time, they learned the technique of making a nice bed which was comfortable to sleep in...also, they made their own school lunch beginning in kindergarten; after dinner, they prepared their lunch boxes or sacks and put them in the fridge, they did their own every day and school laundry; kept their bedrooms clean and tidy and their bathroom clean, they helped in the kitchen during and after meals...When my son married, he thanked me after a few years of marriage for all the skills he learned from me while growing up and even though he complained at times as a child; I was happy for his comments...We also went to church/Sunday school as a family and God was first and is always first in our home; our children read their Bibles, prayed and served others....

I really love that you are teaching your children the life skills they will need as they grow up. May I suggest that, when the time comes, you teach them financial skills like budgeting, comparing insurance deals, keeping accounts and records etc? I had no idea how to do all this, and I made some poor choices as a result. Xx

I grew up with parents who did not take the time to teach me anything or let me participate in the home. I always felt nervous and lost because I didn’t know how to do basic things. I have taught myself a lot and, as a mother of 2, I now include my toddler daughters in everything. They cook, bake, and clean with me. They’re so capable already! You’ve given me so many ideas. Thank you!

Dearest Nikki, you never seize to amaze me. I don’t watch videos as they come out. Only when I get time to. But my goodness, this was a very wonderful video. Especially now in today’s plugged in world, you have found a way to insist on what is most important. I am so proud of the way you are raising your family. You are absolutely right when you say, your job as a parent is to raise your kids to be independent. No kidding!!! You are not raising snowflakes!!! Watching your daughter manage the cooking and laundry was spectacular to watch. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 to you for the guidance you have given and continue to give and to her for handling it quite well. We should never underestimate our kids potential. I loved every aspect of this video. Keep up the great work and for keeping your family together in these ‘plugged in’ and distracted world we live in. God bless 🙏🏽😊

Nikki you have such insight and wisdom and you share it so beautifully. I agree with your thoughts on the child’s day of cleaning. It is important to realize the messes we make and how much time it takes to clean them up. You are exactly correct, you should be raising great adults. I’m so very proud of you and your family and have had the joy of watching you all grow. Keep sharing your philosophy. Only one thing to say that may not have been said, watch that knife, as a nurse I could only think of a bad laceration. I love you,!

This is a really beautiful video Nikki. Of course my favourite part is the last section. The bath tub very inviting, peaceful and replenishing. I am an evening showerer/bather. It's my way of washing away the events and chores of the day in preparation for the next part of the daily routine. Sleep time. The better prepared and relaxed I can be, the better my quality of slumber is going to be. Your robe is gorgeous too by the way. These videos sum up the basic structure of a good life really. Well done for just being you. Your family unit is a blessed and lucky one. I also enjoyed the early evening family walk. Another great way to unwind. Your little doggies are so cute. They always bring a smile to my face. Seeing your children happily interacting and being responsible for their own duties is fabulous. Thankyou so so much Nikki. Yours with love Bev xxxxx

It's wonderful that you married a man who is supportive of your desire to be home and teach your children. There are many men (and women) who no longer value this and want their wife to work outside the home. I think an important message is to make sure and marry a man who supports this wonderful family lifestyle. It is the way God intended. ❤
@TheLadyoftheHouse4 жыл бұрын
This aspect of our lives is definitely important to discuss, especially before marriage to understand what expectations we have of one another but being industrious is definitely an attribute of a virtuous wife. I do find that when the kids are young, as wives and mothers we can put far too much on our plates. I was guilty of this and I had to reassess our circumstances and if they are proving to be helpful for everyone involved. As women we can spread ourselves too thin, trying to live up to that Proverbs 31 woman but what if, that was a look at her life as a whole, not in a single moment. This seems much more relatable. When I read “keepers at home”, I personally read that the woman is to have a concern for the goings on of the home and managing it well. It’s as if this desire to care about such things is already wired within us but for some women, especially in biblical times, they had maid servants helping with much that many of us do ourselves today or that those women who work, hire to have done since they can’t. It’s a form of delegation. I believe delegating is an important skill God wants us to have. These are some of my thoughts on this subject, it’s a very interesting one.

Beautiful. I couldn’t cook when I left home - Mum had done it all - but was able to clean well (dishes, house, laundry, car, etc). I shake my head at some 30 year olds today who don’t know how to insure their car or wash delicates or clean their home (true story !!) because their parents have done it for them. This disempowers the children in my opinion. I love Aila’s denim dress xx

Nikki, I love the way you are teaching your children the skills needed. I need to do more of this! I struggle with watching my kitchen become a disaster zone as they cook! I find it it’s just easier for me to vacate the kitchen, they usually always clean it up and have it back in order and it just helps for me to not watch the mess. I know this is my issue, I like to clean as I go and I know that is not everyone’s style.They are older now so they can do most everything without me guiding and directing them so I’ve learned as a way to cope with my struggle with the mess, to just not be in the kitchen at the time they are cooking 😊 Congrats on 50 K subscribers!

I love that dancing you had with your dog, for me it is a must that we teach our children chores that will help them in the future, honestly now i can rely on my kids to cook, clean, do the laundry... Mothers have the tendency to neglect their needs as well as wants, family, children are always the priority, our life revolve around them...as my kids are grown and as i am getting older, i like to relax, go with the flow, take care of myself so i can take care of others...nice video Nikki it brings back memories....keep safe always.

Nikki, you've inspired me to teach my 7 and 8 year old daughters to cook. I've had them help once or twice but it's always a rush and I send everyone out the kitchen so I can get things done. But it is time for me to help them develop in that way. I love your modesty and how you've taught your daughters the same. BLESSINGS

Your black and white dog is adorable. She looks like she/he has some chi in her. I love the peace candles give to the night time routine. I did enjoy ths time.

Hey NIKKI, long time no see, guess we have both been busy. I loved this inspirational video and what you said during it. WOW ! Kiddos have really grown so much, looks like the son is almost as tall as father. I just absolutely love your warm loving personality and dancing with one of the Furbabies was sweet. Y’all’s home turned out beautiful and gorgeous and love all the flowers. We’re still on quarantine schedules here pretty much but they have started opening schools. I would love to buy some of your artwork if possible, please let me know how okay and yes I know I say that a lot smiling. Stay safe and continually daily blessed, sending hugs and prayers 👍🏻👍🏻💜🤗❤️👵🏼🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
