I watched this on HBO in 1998 when I was 10 alone in my bedroom. I thought it was safe to watch because the Jurassic Park guy was a main character... The trauma has stuck with me ever since. 😂😂😂

Originally the movie was about 25 minutes longer. The 25 minutes that was cut out was all the scenes of torture in hell. Supposedly, it was so bad that it was going to have an X or an NC 17 rating. So the Director cut them out and was going to release it on an uncut version in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, the film had been lost to history. It had been destroyed in storage by accident. I would've loved to have seen that version.

The reason Dr Weir ( sam neil ) cuts up DJ ( Isaacs / Malfoy ) the way he does is that DJ has an extreme fear of surgery without anesthesia. If you look closely, he has scars because he previously actually HAD this done to him in an emergency life saving procedure. It was incredibly painful and traumatic and is now his greatest fear, due to PTSD from it. But sadly, this portion of backstory was edited out of the film because of the very long runtime. And then all of the deleted scenes were lost because of improper film storage. True Story.

I saw this movie when it came out on VHS and I was a senor in high school and it was the last movie to truly scare me. When I watch a scary movie I compare it to this and the movie I am watching doesn't compare at all! The only other movie that I think can at times be more scary than this is The Exorcist. After I watched this the first time it really freaked me out so much that I didn't watch it again for about 15 years. It's the fact that this entity on the Event Horizon knows your worst fear and shows it to you repeatedly is what made this so psychologically terrifying!

One thing I noticed just now that I really like, is that the suit helmets don’t have a light shining at the wearers face. It’s something movies do a lot to make sure the audience recognised who’s in the suit, but it’s totally pointless from a practical point of view. This film doesn’t do that.

The whole airlock scene is plausible. Think of a can of soda. It's under a lot of pressure but once you open it the soda starts to bubble. We have lots of dissolved gases in our blood. If there's no atmosphere pushing on us from the outside then those dissolved gases start to come out of the blood forming gas emboli (basically a blood clot but with gas). Obviously it can be very harmful to your body for instance if the gas embolism reaches the brain it can give you a stroke. Scuba divers can suffer a similar thing if they surface to fast called the bends.

I saw this in the theater when it came out, and it was a trip. There's actually another 30 or so minutes that were removed from the theatrical release to make the movie shorter, and the extra scenes would give it an NC-17 rating. Sadly, the extra footage has decayed in storage, so we'll never get an extended cut. This movie also has one of the best and smartest lines of any horror/thriller when shit's hitting the fan - "We're leaving!" For some more 90's movies, here's few suggestions to put on your radar: The Peacemaker (1997) - Starring George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. Action/suspense. Johnny Mnemonic (1995) - Starring Keanu Reeves, Dina Meyer, Ice-T, and Dolph Lundgren. Action sci-fi. Devil's Advocate (1997) - Starring Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron, and Al Pacino. Drama/thriller..? Boondock Saints (1999) - Starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, and Willem Dafoe. Action. Has part two from 2009. Down Periscope (1996) - Starring Kelsey Grammer. Slapstick comedy. Wrongfully Accused (1998) - Starring Leslie Nielsen. Spoof comedy in true Leslie Nielsen style. Might have to watch a lot more movies from that era to catch the spoofs. Ronin (1998) - Starring Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Sean Bean, and Stellan Skarsgard. Action/suspense. The Hunt for Red October (1990) - Starring Sean Connery, SAM NEIL, and Alec Baldwin. Suspense/action/secret spy stuff.. a bit.

love this movie ... but i'm convinced it was influenced by. the video game Doom ... Doom came out in 1991 this movie in 1997 . in doom you are marine trapped in a facility on mars where scientist were working on teleportation tehcnology and instead of teleporting objects, they opened a portal to hell. in Event horizion ,a scientist worked on a way to punch through space time , and wound up opening a portal to hell instead.

Do you think this movie is a better representation of Doom than the actual doom movie?
@DenverStarkey
@DenverStarkey 9 күн бұрын
@@totallywhatever maybe ... there's been two doom movies , one from netflix (more reccent) and then the one they did years ago that went box office. both suffered from terrible writing , lame acting and a slew of other issues. but then this movie doesn't feature giant cyber demons and possessed human zombies . i'd say it's certainly a better movie by uncountable miles, than either of those doom movies were . but i don't think Paul Anderson set out to copy doom or it's theme even honestly .i personally think this game's back story resembling doom , is coincidence. that said Paul Anderson Did do an actual game based movie afew years after this movie . Resident Evil (in 2002 i think) of which the first one was one of the best video game adaptions to screen ever...but then his writing and directing fell a little flat in the sequels Imo. they sort of just turned into a means for him to showcase his hot wife (Milia Jonovich) in a lead action role.

Unless we're talking fraternal twins, "slightly older" is mostly meaningless with siblings except if your age gap is as small as humanly possible vis-a-vis the human gestation period. Like,......say,....10 months. (meaning, mom got pregnant barely a month after the older sibling was born. I've actually heard of cases like that.)
