Apparently Salma Hayek is mortified of snakes and had to will herself into a kind of out of body trance in order to get through the dance scene. After I found out about that I went back and watched the scene again trying to find an eye twitch or something to indicate that she was uncomfortable and there's nothing. She's locked in and cool the whole time. It's so awesome that people can do things like that. Artists are built different. Most people will avoid anything that scares or disgusts them at all costs. Artists will run straight at it if they think it'll improve their work.

Vampires are "Creatures of the Night". So historically they can take the form of Snakes, Bats, Rats, and Wolves. In European lore, Vampires mostly take the form of Bats. The Vampires were there for hundreds of years. They only wanted Truckers and bikers because no one would possibly come looking for them if they went missing.

The whole vampires turning into animals thing isn't part of the tradition European myths, it's part of the modern legend. Some "evil" or night-dwelling animals like wolves, bats, and owls were generally associated with the supernatural, but that's it. Early vampire legends were corpses inhabited by spirits or demons and sent to harass the vampire's family. The modern vampire doesn't appear until the rise of vampire & gothic fiction in the mid-18th century. The first vampire able to turn into a bat was Dracula (1897).

@cmlemmus494 A type of Romanian vampire is pricolici. These types are humans born with a tail, and they can shape-shift like a werewolf but they have control over their transformation. Their entire power is kept in their tail. In undeath, the pricolici remain in their wolf form.[Bearing little resemblance to its Ancient Greek precursors, the modern Greek vrykolakas (from a Slavic word meaning 'werewolf') has much in common with the European vampire.
@cmlemmus4942 ай бұрын
@@Derek-h6s5x True, but there's two important details that you leave out of that description. First, while some myths are as you suggest, others describe pricolici as werewolves in life and with vampiric features after rising from the grave. The vampire form of the pricolici no longer has shapeshifting abilities. Second, the earliest known written reference to a pricolici is a Latin manuscript from 1716 which explicitly describes them as the Moldovian equivalent to the French loup-garou. The vampire traits didn't get added to the legend until after that. This is a common problem with studying folklore and mythology. Unless you do a deep dive into the literature it's very hard to know if a myth is a hundred years old or a thousand. Anything before WW1 is ancient time as far as anyone alive is concerned.

The movie says the brothers robbed a bank and that their hostage (lady in the car trunk and motel) was a bank teller. The difference between what Salma Hayek did and the other girls is that she's Salma Hayek. This isn't the first movie with "monstery," vampires, and there are dozens of different vampire legends and types in mythology and folklore, not all of them turn into bats. Some of them in this film are serpent-like vampires based on some sort of Aztec artwork or myths, hence the bar built into an ancient temple. I think the band just used some sort of pyrotechnics to escape, they weren't harming themselves. Their quip was just meant to be funny. I don't think it's weird that Clooney wanted to save the kids, he didn't seem to want to end anyone unless he felt he had to. Also, he could have been thinking the more people left, the better his chances. After all, they were fighting alongside him. Also, a horrible situation can make everyone pull together to survive no matter what their characters are normally like. 37:57 I have no idea what you two are confused about here??? Jacob staked the vampire with his weapon and it melted. No one sees the temple because the place is in the middle of a desert with nothing around for miles and there are no roads around it other than the one in front of it. The temple part is only visible from the other side of a drop-off or cliff. And if they did, what would they be seeing anyway, real ancient ruins and a junkyard? One might just assume it's a building made to look like an ancient temple as a tourist attraction, in the same way that Vegas has casinos that look like ancient buildings and monuments. And anyone seeing it might not live to tell about it anyway.

"I don't even know what it's about," And that's the best way to see this movie lol. I saw it the same way on cable TV with no idea what was coming, so the sudden genre shift really got me. This movie works like a social experiment and reveals just how trope-filled and formulaic your entertainment is. It's kind of fascinating that when something mixes genres or steps outside of what everyone is trained to expect from so much boring Hollywood tripe, that viewers' brains get confused and they struggle to even process what's happening. This movie itself is actually filled with common tropes, but by simply going into an unexpected direction, it makes peoples' brains misfire or something lol.

Technically they weren't exactly vampires as you'd normally think of them. These ones are tied into aztec religion, are snake based rather than bat and are called culebras. The tv series goes into alot more detail about exactly what they are and retcons a few things like their implied demonic origin in the movie. They're also not really evil in the series like they are in the movie. The series also goes into why richie is the way he is. For example he's not exactly the crazy loon he comes off as in the movie. Plus they kind of shift the whole creepy perv stuff to a different character Might be worth watching the first season of the series, if only to compare it to the movie (its pretty much a reimaged and expanded version of the movie that goes into alot more of whats really going on with the bar, the vampires and everybody involved) and its not as bloody as you might think from watching the movie

There's horror movie royalty in this one. Among others, Sex Machine is Tom Savini, the legendary f/x guy from George Romero's original zombie trilogy. The guy whose beer he steals is Greg Nicotero, who apprenticed under Savini on Day of the Dead, and went on to be one of the best ever, most well known recently for all of the f/x work on The Walking Dead.

Man, the 90s were crazy movie making times for Juliette Lewis. She was always opposite or with psychopaths. I almost forgot how great she was . This movie , Cape Fear, Natural Born Killers, Kalifornia, the list goes on. 😁 good choice, ladies . Oh yeah, that reporter is Kelly Preston.
@totallywhatever2 ай бұрын
Yes, she was in a lot on the 90s and some really great roles!

Low budget crime thrillers of the 70s were a drive-in staple. They were violent, overly sexual and crude and shocking in many ways. Tarantino takes that same esthetic and instead projects it through a lens of a high budget film made with skilled and artistic directing, well written and acted performances delivering a movie that is as shocking as it is dated.

This is my first time discovering your channel (thank you algorithm, I guess?) and it is a reaction to THIS movie? Oh, and it turns out to be a spectacular reaction too? SUBSCRIBED! Yeah... that twist is completely unexpected from an already pretty wild movie, right?

Wow, thank you! And thanks for subbing!! That twist was crazy, I think we are still in shock. 😮

Check out the movies The Faculty(1998), Jackie Brown(1997), and The Lost Boys(1987).

We will add them to our growing list. Thanks for the suggestions!

Loved your reaction! Personally I'm not a fan of horror or gore but I'm okay with this because it is so over-the-top that you just can't take it seriously. By the way, Robert Rodriguez, the director, has a bunch of films like this, but in addition to Spy Kids he also did The Faculty, a teen Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Guy's got range. @14:00 Technically, what Seth says in this moment is true. Jacob got them across the border and in the morning Kate was safe. Granted, everyone else was dead.

As for the drinking in the store. It’s Texas and in my hometown some of the convenience stores would have maybe a couple little wooden card tables and chairs and some of the old guys would sit in there playing dominoes and drinking beer.

Can’t believe you don’t know the dad, Harvey Kitel, or the barman Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin as border guard and announcer.

The dad does seem familiar, what would we know him from? If it’s from the 90s, we most likely haven’t seen it. 😂

Big snakes are heavy because they are all muscle and little fat. Selma Hayek had trouble with the dance because the snake weighed almost as much as she did.

Hey ladies, I've just been enjoying your reaction vids, especially the total recall and event horizons, which is one of my fav sci-fi horrors Speaking of which, to add to your growing list of 90s sci-fi flicks, i would highly recommend each of these Cube 1997 (an escape room meets saw) Dark City 1998 (WTF ) Johnny Mnemonic 1995 (Matrix prequel maybe?) Judge dredd 1995 ("I am the law") Trapped in Space 1995 (Tv Film, low, budget Awesome and a personal fav) hope that help, and looking forward to your future reaction

It's weird that they didn't believe George Clooney's character when he said they'll make it through all right. It's 100% clear by this point that his brother is the sick bastard, and he specifically said "I do not kill people I do not need to, and I do NOT rape women." He was only talking to his brother there so he had no reason whatsoever to lie about that. He's clearly telling the truth when he's talking to the pastor. Though obviously he couldn't have predicted how that night would end up turning out... lol.
